You let out a long sigh of pure exhaustion as you moved away from the stove and waited for your lunch to cook. Upon noticing your owl wasn't sitting on her perch in the kitchen, you wandered into your living room to find her.

Sure enough, there she was, sitting on the windowsill and staring out the window with her bright eyes wide open. You didn't even have to ask what she was staring at. You already knew since this seemed to be her favorite pastime—and yours too from time to time.

She was staring at your extremely hot neighbor, Bokuto Koutarou.

Intrigued by what could possibly be going on in your neighbor's home, you peered through the window as well, gently scratching your pet owl's head as you did. By the looks of it, he was sitting in his living room watching Netflix. But there was a catch: he was also shirtless.

"Holy shit..." you murmured as you watched him stretch out his muscular arms and run his hand through his slightly messy, spiky hair. The arrangement of the furniture in his house allowed you to stare at him shamelessly since the back of his couch faced the window.

You were so enthralled by your neighbor in all of his shirtless glory that you didn't even notice your food burning until the smoke detector went off in the kitchen. A steady stream of curse words left your mouth as you abandoned your pet owl and your stalking outpost to run into the kitchen and deal with the smoking pan of what could've been your delicious lunch on the stove. You opened the windows in the kitchen and got a chair to stand on so that you could turn off the shrill smoke detector.

As you pitifully dumped the burnt food into the trash and cleaned up the mess it made, you heard a voice call your name in the distance. You whirled around to see Bokuto leaning out of the window of his own house and waving at you.

"Is everything okay over there?" he asked, his golden gaze darting around your kitchen and inspecting for damage.

Your face turned bright red and you stammered, "Y-Yeah, everything's fine I—"

You couldn't even finish your sentence before you saw a flash of tawny brown fly past you and out your open window. Your pet owl, which had just flown out the window, raced over to Bokuto and lit upon his head, making your neighbor freeze and attempt to look up at her without disturbing her.

"I think your owl likes me, (l/n)-san!"

You rushed out of your house and over to where Bokuto was leaning out of his window and admiring your pet owl. "(Owl's name)! You can't perch on nice people like that! How naughty!" you scolded your owl as you tried to coax her to move off of Bokuto's head.

You heard Bokuto chuckle and you looked at him to see a shit-eating grin plastered on his face. "You know what else is naughty? Spying on your neighbor," he commented.

"Oh yeah. She does that all the time. I'm sorry," you responded without thinking.

"(Owl's name) isn't the only one guilty of that crime."

You bit your lip as your face blazed with embarrassment. Shit. He might've been a little smarter than he led on.

As you struggled to defend yourself against his honest and completely correct accusation, he laughed heartily and said something that made your heart race like you'd just run a marathon: "I'm surprised you haven't caught me sneaking peeks over at you all this time." Your eyes widened, but before you could ask him to explain that one, he went on and said, "I assume that was your lunch that just went up in flames, so why don't you come out with me for lunch? How does (favorite food) sound?"

Despite the stressful mixture of feelings brewing inside of you, you smiled brightly. "I'd like that, Bokuto-san."

"It's Koutarou to you," he corrected you with a wink.

"Then, please, call me (f/n)."

He smiled happily as he watched you coax your pet owl back into your house before shutting the windows and grabbing your purse. He left his house eagerly and started walking over to his car.

"Koutarou, you forgot a shirt..." you commented once you realized he still hadn't put one on.

"Well, damn," he chuckled nervously as he jogged back over to his front door to go inside and throw a random shirt on.

This was bound to be an interesting day.

Five months later...

"I thought owls were nocturnal...?"

"She's just a freak of nature."

"Kinda like me, huh?"

"Exactly like you! And she always wants to be involved just like you do too."

Bokuto laughed heartily as he took another sip of his juice and tightened his grip around you. He then pressed a kiss against your head before turning his attention back to the television show the two of you were binge-watching together. After readjusting your legs underneath the blanket over both of your laps, you grabbed a few more pieces of popcorn, staring down your pet owl as you did.

"You need more sleep, baby," you cooed softly and scratched her feathery head with your finger.

"Oh, don't worry about me. I'm fine!" Bokuto commented and looked over at you. Upon realizing you were talking to your owl, he blushed profusely and stuffed his face with popcorn.

You couldn't help but giggle at his embarrassment. "Well, you definitely need more sleep too. I'm starting to wonder which one of you is the real owl here. You never sleep, Koutarou."

"I wonder why?" he said suggestively with a wiggle of his eyebrows.

"Oh, stop." You smacked his arm lightly.

He defended himself against your attacks before putting your arm around his neck and attacking you with kisses. You were enjoying his show of affection until you felt his lips moving and heard him saying, "Ow... What the...? Ow!"

When he pulled away from you, the two of you turned to face your owl, who'd been pecking Bokuto from where she sat on the back of the couch. "Guess we have to keep it PG while she's around," you commented with a shrug.

"(Owl's name) is such a savage... I love it!"

You shook your head and smiled as your owl nuzzled Bokuto, who proceeded to feed her another piece of popcorn. Your owl loved Bokuto and so did you, which made you happier than anything else.

You had to give her some credit for making this all happen. Without her, you wouldn't be anywhere near as happy as you were today.
