As the final bell rang, signalling the end of another long school day, you let out a long sigh of relief. Now that your classes were done for the week, you decided to treat yourself with a visit to your favorite library a couple of blocks from Karasuno High School.
Unlike any of the other teenagers who attended Karasuno High School, your idea of an entertaining Friday afternoon was a visit to a library, followed by a quiet evening spent reading the book you selected. While you made a beeline for the library after school, practically every other student heading out the gates avoided any additional sources of learning or information like the plague.
Sure, people poked fun at you for being such a big bookworm, but you didn't really care. Reading was an escape for you since you could venture into any world you wanted to without having to actually go anywhere. That in and of itself was amazing to you, so you didn't quite understand why your fellow peers knocked the opportunity to find something interesting to read that was unrelated to school.
When you finally arrived at the library after a short journey, you opened the doors and breathed in the familiar and comforting smell of books and slightly old carpeting that made you smile each time you entered. After being a regular at this library for however many years, you knew the inside of it like the back of your hand, and you wasted no time in making your way to the section filled with new arrivals.
As you scanned the numerous shelves filled with seemingly limitless amounts of books, you couldn't help but notice another person approach the section as well and spend some time looking around. You wanted to look at the person, but you didn't want to be blatantly obvious about it, so you pretended to look at books near him so that you could examine him out of the corner of your eye. He looked very familiar with his gray hair, friendly features, and slightly taller build. Wasn't he on the volleyball team...?
You stopped yourself before your mind could drift any further from your goal and turned your attention back to the pressing matter at hand: what book you were going to spend the next however many days reading in your free time. This was serious business.
When you'd finally found a book that tickled your fancy, you reached for it, only to have the guy next to you reach for it at the same time.
"Oh! Uh... I'm sorry, did you want to look at that book?" you asked nervously and withdrew your hand with lightning speed.
"It's okay! You can go ahead and look at it," he responded with a sheepish smile. You could've sworn you saw a hint of red on his cheeks as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"O-okay..." you stammered, taking the book off the shelf and reading the back of it. Once you'd finished, you commented, "It sounds interesting. Well, if you're into this kind of plot," and handed the book to him.
He thanked you and smiled warmly as he accepted the book from you and scanned the back of it before nodding in agreement with you. "It does sound good."
"Well, there's only one on the shelf, so you can read it first if you want," you offered shyly.
"No, you read it first! And when you're done, you can just give it to me," he suggested calmly before his brown eyes widened and he added, "If t-that's okay with you, of course!"
You looked down at your feet and readjusted your hair as you felt a blush creep onto your cheeks. "Don't worry; that's f-fine!" was your rather enthusiastic response. You internally kicked yourself for stuttering once again, but cut yourself some slack when you realized that he had just done it as well.
"Say, do you go to Karasuno?" you heard him ask, making you raise your head and look at him again.
"Yeah, I do. How do you know that?" you questioned.
"Your uniform." He gestured to what you were wearing and you felt your face heat up once again.
Duh, you thought to yourself as you chuckled nervously, Why am I being so stupid right now?
"Besides, I feel like I've seen you around before. You look familiar."
His second comment made your heart flutter in your chest. A guy this cute had seen you casually walking around school and going about your life? Hearing that he'd noticed you came as a pleasant surprise to you since you felt that you simply blended in with everyone else and did absolutely nothing to stand out.
"I feel like I've seen you too, but I can't think of your name," you said.
"I'm Sugawara Koushi, but everyone calls me Suga," he introduced himself with a smile warm enough to melt candles.
"I'm (l/n) (fn), but you can call me (f/n)," you replied, giving him a small smile as well.
"Alright, well, you go ahead and read that book and I expect you to find me around and hand it over to me without spoiling the entire plot, okay?" Suga told you jokingly.
You nodded diligently and smiled at him before leaving him to continue searching for a book to read.

About a week later, you managed to find Suga in the library during lunch, sitting by himself and deeply enthralled by whatever book he was reading. You noticed a look of confusion cross his face as he closed the book and placed his hands on the sides of his face, as if trying to comprehend what he'd just read.
"You okay there?" you asked smoothly as you stood next to him, despite the fact that your heart was ready to pound out of your chest at being so close to him.
"(F/n), you need to read this. I just finished it and it's really good, but I'm so confused." He pushed the book he'd just been reading towards you and you handed him the one you'd gotten from the library in return.
"No spoilers!" you hissed jokingly as you glanced at the cover and back of the book.
He simply smiled at you before reaching for the book you'd handed him and flipping through the first couple of pages.

"What page are you on?"
"Seventy-eight."
"Don't you dare read past eighty."
"I won't! Calm down and let me finish!"
As you friendship with Suga progressed, the two of you ended up exchanging more books and reading them before meeting up again to talk about them. The two of you often met up in the library during lunch, but he would sometimes walk with you to the library down the street when he didn't have volleyball practice after school. Eventually, you both decided on reading the same book at the same time so that you each didn't have to endure the suffering of waiting for the other person to finish the book before you could share your thoughts on it.
This decision ended up benefiting both of you, since it meant that neither one of you had to read on your own to prevent sharing spoilers with the other. Because of this, the two of you often got together after school whenever there was time and sat together to read until you reached a designated page number. You very much enjoyed having his company while you sat on your couch downstairs and read even though the two of you didn't talk very much (obviously). His presence was calming.
Once you'd reached page eighty of your book, you placed a bookmark in it and set it down before looking up at Suga, who you found was gazing at you with an expression that was difficult to gauge, but almost looked like one of admiration. When your eyes locked, he blushed noticeably but didn't look away.
"What is it?" you asked timidly, trying to keep your voice from shaking from nervousness.
Suga didn't respond and you felt his warm hand touch yours where it rested on the couch beside you. Without thinking, you wrapped your fingers around his hand and he did the same as he leaned down towards you and pressed his lips against yours, making your heart flutter like a butterfly in your chest.
When he pulled away from you, he gazed down at you, as if waiting for a response. Since you were too shocked to give one at that moment, he uncomfortably cleared his throat, opened his book again, and said quietly, "Do you want to read to page ninety? Because I think that would be a swell idea."
When you realized that you'd inadvertently made him uncomfortable, you responded to his actions by moving closer to him and planting a gentle kiss against his cheek to reassure him. "I don't know about you, but I don't really want to read anymore," you suggested softly when you found the courage to do so. Never did you expect to hear those words come out of your mouth, yet here you were, saying them.
Suga tossed his book down onto the floor and wrapped his arms around you before pressing another kiss against your lips and agreeing, "Good. Neither do I."
