Backstory:
Mai had an normal childhood with a mother and father until one day when she was 5 her and her parents were in an car crash while they were on the way to the Kozume residence. Mai survived but unfortunately her parents didn't, she was unconscious for 2 weeks and when she woke up and found out what happened to her parents she was depressed. After that day she started to live with her aunt and uncle and their child who was her age called Kenma, at first Mai didn't speak but after a week she started to slowly talk to them again. The first time Mai met Kuroo was when he opened Kenma's door with a volleyball in his arms, she was under a blanket while she watched Kenma play his games. At first she was terrified but slowly and surely Mai started to open up to Kuroo when she knew she could trust him. Kuroo taught Mai how to block and spike when he noticed she seemed interested when she watched the boys practice volleyball. Thanks to Kenma and Kuroo Mai managed to go back to being her happy self.

• Mai calls Kuroo Tetsu before and while they are a couple

• Mai started to play the piano when she was 3, her parents used to love when she played the piano and when they died it made Mai want to quit. On Mai's 6th birthday her aunt and uncle got her a small piano to play, Mai wasn't interested but one day she just played for fun, Kuroo heard and said she was great at it. She explained to him that her parents loved that she played and she wanted to quit, he said she shouldn't quit and the times she spent with her parents when she played the piano she should treasure. His words made her cry because they touched her heart and he started to freak out

• Mai sometimes gets asked to play on the piano with the light music club when they have performances. The first time they heard her play was when she was a first year, she was looking around the school and saw the piano, she walked over to it and started to play it. The club leader walked in and when Mai noticed she apologised and started to walk out of the room, she was asked to join but she told them she had already joined a club which was true.

• Mai is extremely clingy to Kenma and Kuroo but it's extremely hard to see. If you look close enough or you watch Mai she would be as close as she could get to them without trying to look like she's clingy. If someone comments about that she would blush from embarrassment and try and change the subject.

• Mai is naive when someone is flirting with her, she would just think they are complimenting her and thank them. This came up when Taketora Yamamoto flirted with her when they were first years, Kuroo had to explain to the boy about how naive she was when it came to that. After the boy heard about that he started to be protective of her when boys hit on her.

• Mai works at a cafe near Nekoma, she found the job after she went to the cafe and saw that they needed staff. She offered to help and they hired her immediately.
