【 Before | Tsukishima Kei 】

"Tsukki-chan! Let's play over there!" a young girl, about the age of five, called out to her best friend.

"Coming!" a blonde, glasses-wearing boy replied and ran over to his best friend.

"Let's play on the swings!" she yelled, happily getting on a swing and launching herself up in the air.

"My turn, my turn!" he waved his arms in the air.

"Tsukki-chan is flying!" she smiled and pointed to him, who was happily swinging.

"I can fly like some dinosaurs!" he giggled, a sparkle in his eyes.

"You sure can!" she nodded. "Let's go play pretend!"

"Pretend what?" he asked, stopping the swing and jumping off.

"I'll be the mommy and you'll be the daddy! We'll pretend that we're on a date in the park!" she grinned.

"Okay! But can we have a pet dinosaur too?" he pleaded with puppy dog eyes.

"Of course!" she beamed. "Let's play!"

"I love you, (F/N)-chan! My lovely wife!" he smiled and engulfed his best friend.

"I love you too, Tsukki-chan! My cool husband!" she held his arms and smiled a beautiful smile, that could only be cherished then.

"Where the hell will I sit?" you muttered to yourself, looking around the classroom like a total idiot.

Your eyes met a familiar pair of hazel eyes behind two lenses, shocking you.

It was him.

And it has been six years.

Six years before all connections with him were cut, without any prior notice.

Six years, you never knew why or how it happened.

It just happened.

And six years later, who knew that you'd see those hazel eyes and that blonde hair again.

He scowled, put on his headphones, and looked away.

You gasped slightly at this.

Maybe this was some other guy?

Perhaps a look-alike?

Who was this rude boy?

You clicked your tongue in annoyance, and sat beside a boy with dark green hair and a fairly noticeable cowlick.

He looked over at you and waved. "Hi! I'm Yamaguchi Tadashi! Nice to meet you!"

Oh so politeness exists in this school, you think to yourself.

"Hi! I'm (L/N) (F/N), nice to meet you too!" you held out your hand for a handshake.

"Ah! I see! You're new here, am I correct?" he grabs your hand and shakes it.

"Yeah! My family just moved back to Japan after going to London for six years," you explain.

"Ooh! London? I've always wanted to know what it's like there!" he says, a sparkle in his eyes.

"Well, it's-"

"Good morning! Class is starting! Please save your words for later. Thank you," a teacher shouts, closing the classroom door behind him.

Yamaguchi scribbles a note and passes it to you quickly without getting caught.

Let's continue our talk later at lunch!

You turn to him and give him a nod of approval before turning back and drowning yourself in an hour's worth of lessons.

-_~*-_~*-_~*

"(L/N)-san!" Yamaguchi calls out, waving a hand in the air.

"Hi!" you wave back and walk over to him and the rude blonde whom you saw earlier.

You felt a pang of uncomfortableness in your chest, but had to brush it off to avoid any embarrassing or awkward situation.

"Let's eat, shall we?" Yamaguchi takes out his bento and chopsticks.

"Itadakimasu," the three of you chorus before shoving mouthfuls of rice in your mouth.

"Ah! How rude of me! I haven't introduced you to my friend!" Yamaguchi says. "(L/N)-san, this is Tsukki-cha- I mean Tsukishima Kei!"

Your eyes widen at the name.

It really is him.

Tsukishima scowls. "Don't call me that,"

"Gomen, Tsukki!" Yamaguchi apologizes while Tsukishima sighs in annoyance.

Just who is this Yamaguchi who can call Tsukishima by that nickname?

Perhaps a lot has changed since then.

He probably forgot all about you and made new, better friends with new, better people.

Just how much has changed?

And why do you suddenly feel like a thousand bricks have been thrown at you?

You are left with just too many unanswered questions.

Why?

How?

What happened?

You rushed over to the big sakura tree at the park, your not-so-private-but-private-enough refuge, and sat down at the bottom of its trunk.

Tears started to stream down your cheeks, and you sniffled a few times.

You hugged your knees tighter, whimpering.

You were like a fragile flower, and some people had decided to step on you carelessly.

That was how you felt, and it very much pained you inside.

"Hey, why are you crying?" a ten-year-old blonde megane approached you.

"I'm fine," you choked out through a bunch of tears.

"You're crying. You're not fine," he bends down and pulls out a handkerchief.

"T-They bullied me again," you coughed.

"Those losers again? Seriously? How pathetic. Don't worry, (F/N)-chan, I'll always be here to protect you!" he wiped your tears.

"R-Really?" you asked.

"Of course. I'll always be by your side even if things happen. There is nothing that can stop me from protecting you," he nodded.

"Pinky promise?" you held out your small finger weakly.

"Pinky promise," he grinned and grabbed your pinky with his.

"(L/N)-san, you were spacing out for a while. Anything wrong?" Yamaguchi questioned.

"I'm fine," you sputtered hastily. "I-uh, need to use the bathroom for a while,"

You stood up and ran out the door.

"That was all before," you mumbled and walked to the bathroom.

You washed your face with water, and wiped the cool liquid off of your face.

"All before!" you clenched your shirt tightly, a mixture of sadness and anger running through you.

You headed back to your classroom and  were about to place your hand on the handle before someone opened it.

It was that jerk again.

You looked at him in the eye and blushed slightly, then he just clicked his tongue.

He brushed right by you.

Just like that.

Your eyes widened in shock.

Apparently, a bunch of things happened during six years.

A lot more than you expected.

-_~*-_~*-_~*

The bell rang and you quickly gathered your stuff.

You didn't even bother saying goodbye to anyone, or taking your time to admire everything around you.

To you, there was nothing to admire.

You strode past the hallways of Karasuno.

In utter silence, you walked.

You dashed out the gates of Karasuno, all the way to your home.

You glanced at your lawn, sadly.

Memories of you and Tsukishima playing happily with toys and basically anything you both found interesting.

You were inseparable, the both of you.

But now, you wondered what you were to him, assuming that you were but a speck of dust that was very much trivial to him.

• • • • •

"(F/N)-chaaaan! I have something to give you!" a certain little boy ran up to you and grinned.

"What is it, Tsukki-chan?" you asked excitedly.

"Hold out your hand," he smiled.

"Okay!" you nodded and held out a hand.

The little boy slipped on a tiny ring on your tiny hand.

"There! Now you can be with me forever, (F/N)-chan!" he beamed proudly at his gesture.

"Huh? But how?" you tilted your head to the side curiously.

"When a boy gives a girl a ring, that means that they can be with each other forever! You know, have something called a date, and then after about 20 dates, the boy does something called a proposal and gives the girl a ring! And then they can get married! Isn't that cool?" he explained with a twinkle in his eyes.

"Tsukki-chan, what's a date?" you ask.

"It's when a boy and girl go out somewhere together," he says. "Since we're always out together, I can give you a ring!"

"Yay! I'm so happy! We'll be together forever, right?" you hugged your best friend tightly.

"Of course!" he hugged you back.

• • • • •

The next day, you were practically forced to sit beside Tsukishima.

Not like you wanted to, anyways.

Your eyes trailed off to his, and his to yours.

You blushed and looked away quickly.

This is so embarrassing, you think to yourself.

A memory enters your head, a very vivid one.

You glanced at your hand, and then your finger.

"Now you can be with me forever,"

You sigh and sit awkwardly in a tense silence that you and the blonde shared.

That was but a memory.

You and him were too young and naive to know anything about a so called forever.

Because forever meant commitment.

And it was so obvious that Tsukishima didn't need you.

He didn't want you.

Yet you missed him.

You missed what you had before.

A bond that you thought was never to be broken.

But six years had broken it.

Those damn six years.

-_~*-_~*-_~*

You ran once again, out your classroom door, out the building, out the gates of Karasuno.

You headed to the big sakura tree in the park.

It has been such a long time.

You smoothed out your skirt and sat down.

You hugged your knees tightly, and started to cry silently.

Why was he being so mean to me?

Have I really been replaced?

What did I do that was so wrong that made him like this towards me?

We used to be so close, but now...

It's as if he's a complete stranger.

Who is he?

Who is this new Tsukishima Kei?

And why do I suddenly feel like nobody cares about me anymore?

• • • • •

"No! Stop! Please!" you yelled.

"(F/N)-chan!" Tsukishima shouted and ran after you.

"I don't wanna go to London with you guys, I wanna stay here with Tsukki-chan and live happily like before!" you cried.

"Please don't go!" he whimpered.

"I will come back and I will find you, Tsukishima Kei! I don't care if it takes me five or ten years! I will find you and I won't leave your side!" you shouted.

"Don't forget me!" he finally stopped running, exhausted.

"I won't ever forget you!" you cried and leaned back on your seat, tears streaming down your face because you knew you wouldn't be coming back here for a long time.

• • • • •

The tears kept coming and falling down your face.

Your legs were soaked with your tears.

A crunch sounded from behind you.

No, please don't be him.

Someone had gotten up and walked to you.

Anyone but him.

He looked at your (e/c) eyes with his hazel ones through the spectacles sitting comfortably on his nose.

You stared at him, tears still streaming down your face.

And that was when you decided to run away from him.

You got up, shadows casting over face, tears falling.

You covered your face with your hands and ran.

You didn't get too far when a hand grabbed your arm, stopping you.

The arm twirled you into a hug.

Your felt something wet against your head, and looked up to see a tall, blonde, glasses-wearing boy crying.

"Why are you crying?" you sniffled.

"That's my line, idiot," he said and held you tighter.

"Are you okay?" you asked, still unsure of whether to hug him back or not.

"I'm sorry," he huffed and squeezed you tightly. "I'm sorry I was a jerk, I didn't know what to do upon seeing you,"

"Please forgive me, I missed you so much," he said. "Not one day has passed without me thinking of you,"

"I promised that I would find you and here I am," you bury your face in his shirt.

"You found me," he nodded. "And now you can't leave my side,"

"I'm not planning to anymore," you hugged him back, a faint smile crept back on your face.

"Good. Because I love you and I have waited years just to tell that to you again,"
