(Koushi Sugawara) Love Me Right

A/n: Done with the requests! Please do not request from me until announce I open them up.

This was a fun one to do! Love Me Right is definitely one of my favorites from EXO so this was a wonderful request! The song is so happy and upbeat but I ended up making the oneshot a lil angsty, my apologies ('ノ`*)

Do let me know if I made some mistakes! I'm still not sure of all the information of Haikyuu!! so I might have written something incorrect here. This oneshot is set during the summer camp (the arc the anime is currently on).

I hope everyone likes this one! I'll be going back to writing my stories. ALSO FOR ALL YOU AMERICANS, HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING! AND EVERYONE STAY STRONG WHEREVER YOU ARE!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(L/n) (F/n) knew how much she means to Sugawara Koushi. She knew how much Karasuno's third year setter loves her. The tender touches, the late night text conversations, the dreamy glances. All of that was clear as day. And this goes vice versa. (F/n) would do anything for her silver-haired Prince.
But lately, things shifted between the two.
It was hard as it was since her and Sugawara go to different high schools. To add onto the fact that it's difficult to see each other, they were both third years. Not only their clubs took so much of their time, but also preparations for their future. College is only so little away for the two and they need to be ready.
(F/n) missed him.
But she had no idea if he missed her. The lack of cute text messages only worried her more.
At least, (F/n) has a plan up her sleeve.
"(F/n)-chan! You're finally here!" The young girl was suddenly engulfed in her cousin's arms, barely getting any air from how strong his grip was. She let out a surprised yelp as she was picked from the ground and twirled around in the air.
"Kōtarō, put me down!" She squealed as she patted her cousin's shoulder.
The Fukurodani spiker placed her back down, much to her relief, with a bright smile. "I haven't seen you in ages, (F/n)-chan! You haven't been coming to our training camps in a while too."
"Yeah, I know. I miss it too." A stern expression crossed Bokuto's face. With a sigh, she added, "And you and the others."
"Aww, that brings a warm feeling that you miss me too, (L/n)-chan!" Kuroo chimed in, ruffling the girl's (h/c) locks. Then, a smirk crossed his face. "But I know the real reason why you decided to come back." He leaned in uncomfortably close. "It's because a certain team was invited by my coach to join us."
"Heh?" Bokuto glanced down at his cousin and noticed the red tint forming on her cheeks. "OH. That's right! Your boyfriend is from Karasuno." The salt and pepper haired boy frowned once realization hit him. His arms crossed on his chest and he gave his cousin a cold glare. "Did you really come here because of him?!"
(F/n) merely shrugged at his question, a small smile tugging at her lips. "I better bring my stuff to the girls' room and change. I'll be right back, ok?" Picking up her belongings, she waved at the two boys and left. Behind, she could hear Bokuto complain and she couldn't help but laugh.
Within 30 minutes, she jogged back to the gyms as she was now in appropriate attire for practice. She entered the big gym where all the teams were doing their practice matches. Her eyes scanned the room but didn't spot the familiar orange and black uniforms. With a pout, she hurried over to the coaches and greeted them respectfully, then joined the girls from the various teams.
"Oh! (F/n)-chan, I haven't seen you in ages!" Fukurodani's manager, Minako, chimed in glee. "Yah, how's your club doing? You doing well?"
"Of course! They won't get anywhere without me," (F/n) replied with a chuckle.
"Oh, lemme introduce you to the others, ok? You also need to be acquainted to my team's new members," Minako replied.
"Sure!"
"Ah, Karasuno is finally here."
(F/n) perked up at the name and casted her eyes to the opened doors. Her heart raced and she could feel the joy swelling up within her. There he was!
She refrained herself from running over to him as his team was talking to their coach and advisor. She watched as her boyfriend went straight into practicing.
I guess I'll have to greet him after practice, she thought with a sigh.
"Koushi-kun!" (F/n) held out a cold bottle of water to her panting, sweating boyfriend. Sugawara's eyes widened at the sight of her.
"(F/n)-chan?" He took the water, gave her a nod as thanks, and gulped down the refreshing liquid. "What are you doing here?" He asked her once his breathing was normal enough.
"I came here to help with the camp," she replied, rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly. She was expecting a more excited reaction from her boyfriend. But she can't blame him fully, he did run up and down the hill as consequence for not winning many of the practice matches. "I also may have heard Karasuno will be joining camp this year. I haven't seen you in a while."
Sugawara's eyes averted away. "Yeah, we've both been very busy..."
What is this?
Does he not want me here?
"Yeah, but now we can hang out a bit, right?" (F/n) asked him with hope in her voice.
"We'll try."
The girl refrained from frowning. This conversation was far from what she expected. Where was the joy and surprise she was looking forward to? And the welcoming kiss once the shock had worn off? Was she not going to get any kind of affection from her boyfriend of two and a half years?
"Uwa! It's (L/n)-san! (L/n)-saaaaan!" Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Hinata rushed to crowd around her. "We haven't seen you in forever!"
(F/n) bared the three younger boys a smile in hopes to hide her prior disappointment. "Hey guys, looks like we'll be seeing a bit of each other."
"What are you doing here, (L/n)-san?" The young redhead questioned her. These boys were a lot more enthusiastic than her own boyfriend. At least some people were happy to see her.
"My cousin is from Fukurodani, so I was able to get the approval to volunteer," she answered.
"That's so cool!" Hinata chirped, his eyes sparkling with awe.
"Speaking of which, I should get back to him. It was great seeing everyone." (F/n) bid the Karasuno boys her goodbyes and went up to Sugawara, who was still avoiding eye contact. She quickly pecked his cheek and turned to make her leave.
Hopefully, the rest of camp wouldn't be like this.
~*~*~
(F/n) couldn't have jinxed herself even more than now. The whole time in camp, she felt that Sugawara was trying to distance himself away from her. Whenever she tried to come near her boyfriend, he would have some kind of excuse to leave. She had been lenient the first few times since she knew how dedicated he was in the sport and after grueling practices, it'd be best to let him rest.
But now? (F/n) wasn't sure what to feel. It now felt like he didn't even want her around and that hurts. It had been a bit difficult to get permission from her club to be here. Sugawara wouldn't even bare her a glance. What was the point of coming here when her boyfriend wasn't going to give her the attention and affection she craved?
He was her whole universe.
Was it the same for him?
"(L/n)-chan."
The (e/c) eyed girl snapped away from her thoughts to look at Kuroo in front of her. "Huh, yes?"
The Nekoma player sighed and patted her head. "I've been calling your name for the past five minutes. You're distracted." He placed the volleyball into her hands and stepped backwards into his original spot. "I need to practice."
"Haven't you practiced enough in the day?" (F/n) huffed as she threw the ball to him. Kuroo returned the ball with little to no effort.
"We have to practice to get better, you know. As amazing as I already am, there's always room for improvement." Just as (F/n) threw him the ball again, he caught it. "Don't be too hard on your boyfriend."
"I..." She glanced up at the starry skies. The wish of her being with Sugawara right now was almost unbearable. But he's too busy. He's always too busy. "I don't want to be. I came here so we can hang out but he wouldn't even bare me a glance. Is it so hard to spend some time with me?"
"I'm sure that's not his intention, (L/n)-chan."
"I know... But I just feel like he doesn't love me as much as before." She wiped her wet cheeks with the back of her hand. "He could've given me a sign that he still loves me, you know? A hug, a smile, I would've taken anything."
"So like this?"
(F/n) looked at Kuroo and a snort of laughter came out. Her hand flew over her mouth as the boy in front of her threw on a creepy smile her way. He began to even wiggle his eyebrows in a suggestive manner and shoot her his oh-so-seductive winks.
"Stop that, how can you get a girl with a face like that?" She giggled.
"Ah, but you look so much more beautiful with a smile on your face." He stepped forward and wrapped his slender arms around her body. She stiffened at the sudden gesture but made no movement to push him off. "And like this? You want your boyfriend to hug you like this?" She nodded into his shoulder. "It's ok to pretend I'm him, you know."
"How can I when you're not him?"
"You must really love him, huh?" What was the Nekoma player getting at? (F/n) tried to pry herself off but the grip only tightened around her. "If he doesn't give you the time of day, then I will."
"What are you trying to say, Kuroo?"
He leaned in closer and whispered into her ear, "If he's hurting you too much, you shouldn't stay in that relationship. If I were him, I would be doing all I can to make you smile and laugh. I wouldn't disregard you. I'd give you all the love and attention you deserve."
Kuroo finally let her go, leaving her stunned from his words. She frowned deeply and she hung her head low, the guilt eating her up inside. "I'm sorry, Kuroo-kun, but I can't return the feelings. I love Koushi way too much."
(F/n) noticed his eyes flickered behind her. She turned around and saw her own boyfriend standing there in the shadows, his chocolate eyes glistening with tears. "Koushi..." The silver haired setter stepped forward, grabbed her hand, and pulled her farther from Kuroo.
The other male threw his hands up defensively, a gentle smile on his face. "Whoa there, Sugawara, I saw you creeping about there. I'm not trying to steal your girl, I just wanted you to realize your feelings."
Sugawara glared at the taller male for having played him that way. He could have never known the wave of fear and guilt that was running through him right now. He thought his own heart was going to leap out his chest and run away. He couldn't blame Kuroo for trying, he hasn't been the best boyfriend lately.
He looked over to (F/n), holding both of her hands in his. The girl poured at him. She could clearly see the hurt in his eyes so why did he treat her like nothing the past few days? "(F/n)-chan, I know I haven't been the best lately. My team have come here aware that we're the weakest team. We wanted to work hard and do everything we can so we can be of something. To be honest, even before I knew you were volunteering, I had planned to keep you out of my mind... But it's not how you may think it is!"
"Then what?"
"It's just that... I've been scolded before that I get distracted in practices because I think of you 24/7. Sometimes I am not my 100% in practice because of it. Daichi doesn't like that and being the vice captain, I shouldn't be leading that example. So, when you came here, I already had my mind set not to think about you a lot. I really am sorry for treating you the way I did. I just thought that I broke my reserve in any way, then I won't be able to concentrate at all..." (F/n)'s eyebrows furrowed together at the news. So, that was his reason... "I'm sorry if I made you feel like I didn't love you. You one of the most important people in my life. You are my whole world--No, my whole universe! I hope you can forgive your crappy boyfriend."
(F/n) wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning in close to him. "Of course I can, but please promise me something."
Sugawara slithered his arms around her waist. "Anything."
"Please talk to me about these things in advance. I completely understand that you have a lot on your plate." She left a kiss on his cheek. "And so, love me right from now on."
"Deal. I love you, (F/n)-chan."
"I love you too." The two embraced for their long awaited kiss. Holding each other under the moonlight and being with one another's presence, they knew their love couldn't dwindle into nothing so easily.
"Hey, hey, hey, PDA is not allowed here, lovebirds!" Kuroo barked from behind them, causing the two to pull away in surprise.
"Where does it say it's not?" Sugawara quipped with an amused smile.
The Nekoma spiker sighed, his hand propped onto his hip. "Be considerate to the lonely hearts, will ya?" He jeered jokingly. He then gave them a shooing motion with his other hand. "You guys should go somewhere else and spend some time. I'll cover for the two of you."
"You'd really do that?" (F/n) asked.
"Of course. I'm not some kind of heartless bastard. I'm going to go back to the gym and join your cousin, ok?"
"You promise not to tell him anything?"
Kuroo snickered. "I'll probably tease him about it. Might end up telling him, so you two have a limited time to hang out." With a wink, he left the couple on their own.
Sugawara grabbed onto his girlfriend's hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Let's walk around and catch up, hmm?"
"Sounds fantastic."
The moonlight that shines on us is always the same
I'm still lost in your orbit
I can do this all night long baby
Because wherever I am, me without you is just half
A bright, moonlit night, the stars give off their fireworks
Shall we fly a little bit higher (fly higher)
Feels like my heart will explode right now, we're the only ones floating up
Leaving the earth behind, below our feet, love me right
Bonus {A/n: not quite a Sugawara ending but I felt the need to add this because I couldn't help it!}:
Kuroo entered the brightly lit gym where his peers were all practicing. He glanced around and saw the person he was looking for, his very good friend from Fukurodani. Why must he be cursed from meeting Bokuto's cousin from long ago?
"Ah, Kuroo, you're back!" The very male called out, stopping the cycle of spiking. "Where's (F/n)-chan? Weren't the two of you practicing together?"
Kuroo stalked over and smacked his hand to Bokuto's back, wrapping an arm around his broad shoulders. "Yeah, but her boyfriend came around and stole her away from me."
Bokuto's eyes narrowed at his friend. "Don't tell me you confessed to her again."
"Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. Either way, I ended up helping their love quarrel."
"Oh really? Are you finally moving on from her?" Bokuto questioned in bewilderment.
"It'll still be a while, man," he pouted.
"Kuroo, you really should move on. She's taken," Kenma input from behind the duo.
"Yeah, yeah. I know, I'll get over her eventually, I promise."
"Let's practice, Kuroo-san?" Akaashi chimed in, holding up a volleyball.
"Yeah! Cmon, Bokuto, I'll kick your ass," Kuroo agreed while going to one side of the court and getting into position.
How bittersweet.
If only (F/n) recognized that she was his whole universe too.
