Asanoya: Wait
Nishinoya's POV
Nishinoya sat on the volleyball court, stretching and watching Kageyama yell at Hinata about how horrible his form is.
"Do they ever say anything nice to each other?" Asahi said from behind Noya. Nishinoya turned his head to look at the tall boy. Asahi had an amused smile on his face. Nishinoya jumped up to look at him.
"Probably not. That's not their style." Nishinoya grinned. "Hey! How about you hit some of my tosses! I still need a lot more practice..." Nishinoya rubbed the back of his neck with his hand, looking at the ground in slight embarrassment.
"Yeah, definitely!" Asahi clapped Nishinoya on the shoulder and Nishinoya felt a shiver run down his spine. He froze, and when Asahi got over to the court he called back to Nishinoya, "You coming?"
"What? Of course!" Nishinoya shook his head as he jogged over to Asahi. They practiced tosses for a while until Daichi said it was the end of practice.
"Rest up everybody! Tomorrow's practice is gonna be a lot of conditioning." A collective groan emerged from the group. "Sorry, but you guys could use it." He smiled and dismissed everyone.
Nishinoya walked home, took a shower, and collapsed on his bed, too tired to do much else. Suddenly his phone lit up. He had gotten a text from Asahi.
"Hey, Noya. Your tosses are getting a lot better! I just wanted to ask, you were a little weird at practice, are you alright?" Nishinoya smiled at the text. Of course Asahi would notice something, even if it was just a little thing. He had always been the observant type.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I was just a little tired." Nishinoya responded. It's true that he was indeed, tired, but Nishinoya was not going to mention the shock that went through him when Asahi touched him. Nishinoya wasn't going to mention the fact that he couldn't take his eyes off Asahi when he was spiking. Asahi looked so graceful and powerful in the air, it was breathtaking.
"Oh. Are you sleeping okay? Have you been taking your medicine?" Nishinoya could hear Asahi's concern as if he was in the room with him.
A few weeks ago, Nishinoya had gone to the doctor with complaints about sleeping problems and was prescribed with something that was supposed to help him. He had told Asahi about it one day walking back from practice.
Nishinoya paused. He hadn't been taking it, it made him dizzy and not feel like himself. He didn't want to cause his parents any trouble though, so he just said it was working fine.
"Yeah, I've just been having to stay up doing homework and such, you know?" Nishinoya felt bad for lying, but he didn't want his friend to worry.
"I get you. Just tell me if you need any help with school, okay? I'm happy to help." Nishinoya and Asahi had actually had several studying sessions together. Asahi kept him grounded; Nishinoya was always super hyper and needs someone to tell him to calm down in a nice voice. Asahi had a nice voice.
Nishinoya shook his head. What was happening to him? Well, Asahi was one of his best friends after all. Nothing more.
"Thanks, man. You always take such good care of me."
"It's my pleasure." Nishinoya smiled at that. Whenever they text, he always said "my pleasure" instead of no problem or you're welcome. Nishinoya liked to think it was one of their inside jokes, but he had no idea if Asahi did it with other people. Nishinoya rolled over and turned out the lights, hoping on getting a decent amount of sleep.
~~~~~~
Nishinoya moved sluggishly to practice. He got minimal amounts of sleep last night. He was extremely fidgety, all the while being exhausted as well. He got a nap in at English, but was still tired. Tanaka joined Nishinoya as he made his way towards the gym.
"Hey! You ready for some sprinting today?" Tanaka exclaimed. Nishinoya glared at him. "Ha! Me neither. Maybe Daichi will go easy on us today. But you are usually at least a little excited for practice, even if it's fitness. Bad classes?"
"You could say that." Nishinoya yawned.
They got to the gym, late as usual, and joined the others in push-ups. The rest of practice went as predicted and everyone was exhausted by the end.
"Asahi-san! Can you carry me home?" Nishinoya leaned into Asahi's chest. At this point, Nishinoya was slightly delirious from lack of sleep.
"I did just as much running as you, and you expect me to carry you home?"
"Asahi..." Nishinoya's legs started to give out and he began sliding toward the floor. Asahi held up the small second year while looking at Daichi and Suga with an exasperated look on his face. Daichi just laughed and Suga looked at him sympathetically.
Hinata and Kageyama had already left, Tsukishima and Yamaguchi were talking in the corner, and Tanaka was entertaining the rest of the second years with some outrageous story about something he saw in the hallway yesterday.
Asahi sighed and hoisted Nishinoya into his arms.
"You are the best person ever, Asahi-san," Nishinoya muttered as Asahi walked out into the cool night air.
"Maybe I should start bringing my old stroller to practice. I bet you could fit in it." Asahi said playfully. Nishinoya looked at Asahi, completely expressionless. Asahi laughed.
"It's not my fault I'm short," Nishinoya murmured. Nishinoya let his head rest on Asahi's chest. Nishinoya felt so comfortable, so safe. He wished he could stay here in Asahi's arms forever.
Asahi's POV
Asahi looked down at little Noya, tucked in his arms. His back and arms hurt, but he didn't want to put Nishinoya down. Asahi thought of how much he had wanted talk to Noya, be with Noya recently. Asahi was so happy when Nishinoya had asked him to hit some of his tosses.
Asahi had a sudden urge to kiss Noya on the forehead. Noya's breaths had evened out so he might even be asleep. Asahi paused from walking and Nishinoya still didn't stir. Asahi lowered his head to Noya's, but rather than kissing his forehead, Asahi just leaned his own against the smaller boy's. Nishinoya slowly opened his eyes to meet Asahi's and smiles. Asahi let out a small sigh of relief.
"Can you put me down?" Nishinoya said quietly. Asahi paniced for a moment. Had he done something wrong? He slowly let Nishinoya down onto the sidewalk.
Nishinoya's POV
Nishinoya shifted himself so he was standing directly in front of Asahi. Asahi's eyes darted around the block, but settled back on Nishinoya after a moment. Nishinoya took a step towards Asahi without really knowing what he was doing.
Nishinoya didn't think he had ever felt anything for Asahi, at least not romantically. But as Nishinoya reached up and out his hand on Asahi's cheek, he realized that that might've been what he had been feeling all along.
Nishinoya reached his arms up around Asahi's neck and pulled himself up to kiss Asahi. Asahi leaned down into the kiss so Noya didn't have to strain so much. Nishinoya smiled as he felt Asahi's lips on his own and he pulled away because he couldn't kiss while smiling this much. Asahi looked down at Nishinoya with a look he recognized, but now it meant more. Nishinoya realized that whenever Asahi looked at him with those big eyes and a soft smile lingering on his lips, it was a look of love, not one that said, "Oh, Nishinoya, crazy as always."
"I can't believe we have waited this long for this," Asahi said in his soft voice.
"Me neither." Nishinoya wrapped his arms around Asahi and lay his head against the tall boy's chest.
