bokuaka {christmas special #2}

has anyone noticed I'm really bad with finishing things? You see, I started yesterday's one-shot first, and decided to publish it with a cliffhanger. My intent was to see if anyone wanted a second part, and if they did I would work on finishing it. It's kind of the same with this particular one-shot, but truth be told I was running out of time and had to publish it unfinished per se. Sorry, but if anyone would like a continuation of either this or the other BokuAka Christmas Specials, please feel free to let me know and I'll continue them!

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A CONTINUATION OF THE FIRST SPECIAL, THIS IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CONCEPT AND AU

Secret Santa AU

"Time to pull names!" Keiji's boss, Madeline, cheered a little to overzealously. Sure, the holidays were exciting and all, but everyone had a limit. And Keiji's happened to be a lot less than Madeline's.

"C'mon, Akaashi. Cheer up! It's Christmas time," she patted him on the back, trying to excite and encourage him. It was to no avail, as the boy's expression just darkened as he drew a name from the cheap santa hat that was put before him. Before Maddie could peek at the name he had grabbed, Keiji quickly shoved the slip of paper into his pocket. He walked away, his lips pursed and eyes staring straight ahead.

As he opened the door to his small apartment, a very audible sigh escaped the boy's mouth. Of every person who worked in the building, believe me, it was a lot, he couldn't have chosen another name. Heck, who even knew everyone in that building. It was a major surprise, but nonetheless, at least Keiji had an idea of what his person liked already. After all, he had spent at least two years of always being with him. As if he couldn't believe his luck, or rather misfortune, the boy looked down to the stray slip that lay on floor, thrown down without a care.

Bokuto Koutarou.

The memories of all their times together all but filled Keiji's head as he smiled in reminiscence. To think that he once had a crush on the goofball that he was now responsible to buy gifts for. Oh boy, back then Keiji was a mess of feelings, not that he ever showed it. He didn't really show any feelings back then, it was just... simpler. Come to think of it, he still barely expressed emotion. But right now, Keiji knew his face was nothing but smiles. The nostalgia had taken over. Things like Bokuto's 'emo mode', he wondered if the captain still had times like those. Keiji felt bad for the poor souls who had to endure that from a full-grown adult. What would Bokuto think when he found out that his secret santa was none other than Akaashi Keiji, his former best friend?

Former... that word hurt. But it was true. Once Bokuto graduated, they didn't really keep in touch. Akaashi became captain of Fukurodani, and of course the old captain congratulated him, but not another word was ever heard from him. The team could only assume that he made it to university, maybe found a girlfriend, and got a stable job. It was odd, how he just seemed to fade from existence, but they guessed that's how most people actually were. But to see Bokuto on his own, and successful at that, just didn't sound right. It wasn't characteristic of him.

That was until one day, Keiji was walking down the busy city sidewalk. A coffee in his hands, he was on his way home for the day. Now, Keiji had always been a sucker for classical music, so it was no exception that he stop to glance at the sweet music that was luring him in. Following the sound, his ears led him to a relatively empty hotel lobby. Empty aside from the grand piano and man playing it that sat in the middle of the room. Upon closer inspection, and listening, Keiji discovered the piece to be Nocturne No.1 in E Flat Major, H.24, a lovely composition from the romantic period. The person playing it however, almost brought Keiji to tears. Sitting on the bench and playing with all of his emotions pouring into the music was Bokuto Koutarou. 'He can't see me, not right now.' Keiji thought to himself. It wasn't the right time, nor did he want to interrupt the magic that was happening in the hotel lobby. After a long and drawn out decision, Keiji decided that he would leave a tip at the front desk, and ask the hotel staff to give it to Bokuto for him having them say it was from an 'anonymous fan'.

Every day from then on, Keiji would make sure to walk past the hotel, but

Bokuto was never there again. Once, he even gathered up enough courage to ask the staff if the man had come again. Of course the answer was an apologetic shake of the head. How come he was there one time, and then never again?! It didn't add up! 'Unless it wasn't Bokuto...' Keiji's thoughts wandered. 'But it had to be. There was no mistaking his hair, or his passion, or his smell, or...' Keiji got ahead of himself. Those feelings were no more, just an old memory, like everything else regarding Bokuto. That is what Keiji had decided on after leaving high school.

But now, Bokuto was all that filled Keiji's mind. What to get him, how to get it to him, everything of the sort. Would Bokuto even recognize him? Or would he guess that it was Keiji gifting him right away? Did Bokuto even know that they worked in the same location? Mounds of questions clouded Keiji's brain, consuming those of his past with Bokuto all together.

Keiji only had a day to figure out his first gift to Bokuto. The simple choice would be his favorite snack, rice crackers, but something told Keiji that it wasn't good enough. He had to give the other something special, something that would make it so painfully obvious that it was Keiji whom was gifting him. Something like an old inside joke...
