floating down to earth

softly blanketing the world 

tiny frosted stars

Ice 

slippery sidewalks

and shining spears of hard ice

making earth sparkle

warm cakes and cookies

soups and stews, delicacies

made sweet by the cold

Rise

enveloped in warmth

sudden chill as darkness dims

rising with the sun

Heat

numb fingers and toes

slowly thawing by the fire

reveling in heat

trudging through cold sluge

peeping through the snow I see

a tiny green sprout
