Chloe is rubbing my arms. She's looking at the door then looking back at me. She's confused. I'm confused. My heart is pounding. Why is Liam here with mom? Everything that's been happening starts to come back. Liam's strange behaviour, his sudden disappearance, mum's weird behaviour about Liam.

Is all of this related? Or am I going insane? "Chloe I think I'm going crazy"

"Really? Join the club." She gets up and walks to the door, leaning sideways resting her ear on the door and tries to listen to what's going on downstairs. She turns to me "do you have like zero idea about what's going on?"

"I have a million. I just can't place them right." Liam is here. In my house. With my mum, the lady who absolutely hated him. I sit there for the next 10 minutes while Chloe walks back and forth. Chloe stops. I look at here when she starts approaching me and grabs my phone. "What?"

"Open it." I open the lock on my phone. "Okay. We'll have a little idea about what's going on with your mum and Liam."

"How?" She turns the phone and I see my WhatsApp chat with Liam. "You'll-"

"No, you'll text him." She starts typing. She knows exactly how I chat, Liam would never figure it out in a million years.

Evelyn: Oye! Wot are u doing? I'm bored. Perfecto. We keep waiting eagerly. Few minutes pass by and nothing comes back.

"Oh god. I can't take this anymore. Something's definitely wrong. What if my mum knows about the two of us and she caught him and now she's threatening him or something."

"Evelyn, don't you think that a bit much. She's not capable of threatening someone. Yes, she can be over possessive about things when it comes to you but- no- what you're saying is impossible." My phone is back on the bed now. Few more minutes pass by and Chloe picks up the phone once again.

She's texting him again.

Evelyn: Liaammmmm.... Are you asleep?

Oye! Suggest me some movies.

Typing.... "Ohhh ohh! He's typing!"

Liam: Yeah I was napping. Did you watch Black Adam? You can watch that. Or maybe Clueless. It's a classic!

Evelyn: okies! "So.... we know that he's lying."

"That's not new." It hurts me that his lies don't surprise me anymore. It hurts me that somehow I expect this from him. I stand up and rush to the door. As soon as I get past Chloe she gets alert and tries to hold my wrist. But nothing's stopping me.

I open the door very slowly, take small steps down stairs and stop right before I hit the living room Mum and Liam are in the kitchen. Maybe because it has a back door. I need to get to the bottom of this. Enough is enough.

I hear the discussion heat up between mum and Liam. It's very evident that they know each other. I get a sudden flashback of the first time Liam saw mum. The reaction on his face was not nervousness. It was fear. Maybe a little bit of anger.

He had never met my mum, it wasn't making sense. His reaction wasn't right for someone he had met for the first time. Same with mum. She became paranoid as soon as she heard about Liam. she wouldn't let go until I stopped dating him. None of that made sense because I thought they didn't know each other.

"Now it all makes sense." Faint words make it out of my mouth, so faint that even I didn't hear myself. I don't have the strength in me to justify all this anymore. I feel so pathetic. That this happened with me for so long and I kept defending these people because I love them.

"That was not what we agreed on!" Liam speaks firmly. His voice is shaky but its determined. "You can't go back on your deal if I do my end."

"You messed up your end Liam Kade."

"How? You got what you wanted. Evelyn fell for me. HARD! I bet she's in love with me."

"Yeah, that wasn't part of the deal."

"WHAT?! Grace. Grace. Grace, No! That wasn't in my hand. I did exactly what you asked me to do so just give me the money and I'll gladly fuck off. I'll leave you guys for good."

"And what about Evelyn huh? What will you tell her? She's gonna keep calling you and texting you until she gets an answer."

"That's not my problem."

"It precisely is. You went far beyond where you were supposed to go. You left the town once, then came back, then left again before the fundraiser and came back AGAIN!"

"My brother is here Grace. He doesn't need to be involved in all this. It's his last year and we can't leave like this."

My heart dropped to my stomach. There's no air left in my lungs. Chloe is rubbing my back with one hand and the other is on her forehead. I grab Chloe's arm for support. I look at her with watery eyes, when she hugs me. I feel nauseous and weak. I am probably sweating. My throat feels cold and dry.

I was right. None of this is true but a lot of things are, there is a girl, she is my mom her name is Grace not Ace. The messages I saw at Austin's birthday party from mum, the time I told Liam how my mum is desperate for me to leave him, he said 'of course' like he already knew, he wasn't surprised. Now I know why, because he is in on this.

I don't have the strength in me but I go down the steps. I walk to the room where they're having the conversation. Liam was facing me and mom was facing Liam. As soon as Liam's eyes fall on me, he freezes. And hell freezes over his head. Whatever he was trying to say gets stuck in his mouth.

Mum still doesn't have any idea what is happening. "What!?" She says to Liam, she is mad because Liam has stopped mid way. Mum realizes that Liam is looking over her shoulder and before she even fully turns to me knows what's coming. She knows how bad she has screwed things up.

I've lost my voice but my heart pushes up a lump of aggression and hatred to my mouth and I scream "Fucking LIARS!!!"
