{My Hero Acadmia} Sports Festival (Final Part)

I cried again, after watching Todo's backstory.
I sob
He deserves better dammit

———

Hailey couldn't escape the hateful glare of Todoroki from the other side of the field. She didn't understand why he didn't like her so much, he had been so willing to cooperate with other classmates, what was wrong with her.

"The final four Hails!" Kirishima exclaimed excitedly as the two of them walked towards the waiting room. "Let's hope that we don't end up fighting!"

"I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself," Hailey sweatdropped, "I am confident that you have a good chance against Bakugou, but still, it matters how I do against Todoroki and how Tokoyami does."

"You look like you just got told you were being executed." Kirishima nervously pointed out.

"Yeah, by Todoroki himself! I was worried about getting frostbite and a cold, but now I gotta worried about being defrosted and roasted. Not fun." She groaned over-dramatically.

"You'll do great, trust me. You should be all charged up!" Her sharptoothed friend encouraged.

Hailey smiled, "Only if you're all rocked up!"

"That doesn't work..."

"It's better than saying something that could be taken sexually!" Hailey argued.

"Okay yeah fair point."

She tried to ease her nerves by thinking to what her friends told her.

"Todoroki has been using mostly long range attacks to start off his battles." Iida pointed out, "So you'll have to attack or dodge fast if you want to avoid being frozen."

Hailey nodded in response as she considered how either scenario would play out in her head.

"Don't forget that he has a limit to his quirk use, during his fight with Midoriya, he got frostbite." Uraraka added.

"Okay," Hailey let out an anxious breath of air, "Long range attack is his first move, mainly has used ice, gets frostbite if he uses it too much and uses fire as a wild card." She reviewed.

Her friends nodded, acknowledging that she had everything down.

"He'll be aiming for the top, and since he's had a chance to recover, his attacks will be quicker and harder than the second and third round." Midoriya piped in as he approached the group that stood in the waiting room.

"Tell that to Sero." Hailey said in a half joking matter.

"Back then he was feeling more sad and angry. During our fight, I provoked him and he unleashed his fire quirk." Midoriya reminded her.

Hailey visible shuddered in stress, "Oh so if he's stressed about being closer to the top and I put up a good fight, he'll either put me in bad enough shape that I'll need surgery or he'd kill me."

"I'd rather die, thanks." She retorted.

"You won't die out there, he has limits to his quirk." Iida tried to reassure her from a logical standpoint. "Perhaps distract him and then when he drops his guard, attack and send him out of bounds?" He suggested.

"Except he's been on guard even before the festival. I've tried to be his friend and prove that I won't use anything against him. I didn't even watch that fight he had against Midi, which seemed important but I decided to be an idiot and relate it to going into battle and not knowing anything about the villains." Hailey stammered and ranted about her dismay.

"You'll be fine, like I promised, I'll cheer for you no matter what you do." Midoriya reassured her.

"I might end up throwing some dirt at him, so I'll be expecting that." She uneasily jested with an equally nervous smile.

Now here she stood, being introduced as the bombastic banshee with the ideal sportsmanship and being cheered on loudly by some of her classmates. She was versing the powerful and focused Todoroki. Present Mic compared their parents based on the popularity and successfulness of their agencies.

Upon hearing that, Hailey turned towards her mother that stood at the top of the stands and waved to her brightly and enthusiastically.

"HI MOM! LOOK I MADE IT TO THE ALMOST FINALS!" She yelled happily at her mother, who only smiled in amusement.

"I SEE THAT! BUT FOCUS!" Melodie yelled back at her daughter.

"Would you look at that folks, it seems that Roselle has taken the time to say hi to her mom, isn't that sweet Aizawa? It reminds me of the fun we have at theses festivals."

"It seems distracting to me."

Todoroki almost gave a lighthearted stare at the scene before him, but then he saw that standing beside the woman that his opponent called 'mom' was his father, scowling at him harshly. That's when he put the pieces together in his head, why all of a sudden Hailey was wanting to become closer to him, why her mother was seen by Endeavour's side willingly. She was apart of his plan.

Except little did the icepack know that Hailey has no fricken idea of what conspiracies that Todoroki was concocting in his head.

"Alright let's start!"

Hailey focused her attention back to her opponent. After a moment of hesitation, Todoroki sent a hard and fast sweep of ice in Hailey's direction, but she was able to dodge it with a well planned summersault.

"You know Todo, since I made it this far and fourth place is almost guaranteed, I'm not going to be too depressed if I lose this match." Hailey remarked, smirking at him.

As she decided to keep running to her left, Todoroki sent another quick sweep of ice to either cut her off or to capture her. But Hailey saw it coming and used a boost under her feet to push her in the air high enough to do a powerful backflip out of the way.

While Todoroki was about to send another ice attack, Hailey stomped on the ground and released a wavelength boost towards Todoroki. Although he used his quirk to make an wall of ice to prevent him from moving close to the line of boundaries.

"Quick attack." Todoroki muttered to himself.

When he moved his arms down from shielding his face from the attack, he barely dodged a boosted fist from his face, and got hit in the shoulder. The ice wall he had just moments ago created was now shattered into little pieces.

"I didn't even use 30% of my brute force." Hailey sighed, almost in a prideful tone.

Todoroki glared at the red haired girl in annoyance. "This isn't a joke!" He growled.

"I know, but what's the point of showing off to the world if you can't have any fun." Hailey replied and stuck out her tongue at him in a teasing manner.

"You could have gone farther if you didn't waste your time assisting everyone else in this competition!" Todoroki commanded her to acknowledge what he thought was obvious.

"It isn't heroic to be selfish!" Hailey retorted at him, and began to pull at the sleeve on her left arm from the uniform she wore.

"What are you doing?" Todoroki grumbled.

"Just wait, you'll see!" Hailey told him in a snappy tone.

Todoroki let out a frustrated breath before running towards her with an ice attack forming in his palm.

Hailey noticed and used the moment to jump over the bicolor haired boy with a boost, when she landed, she tore off the sleeve of her jacket and slipped it over her shoe.

"Ha ha! Ya missed!" Hailey gloated, turning back to him.

Todoroki turned and turned the rest of the battlefield floor into a light sheet of ice, which Hailey jumped just in time to avoid getting her feet stuck.

"Now I have the advantage." Todoroki stated.

"No you don't." Hailey argued, "I knew you'd do that eventually and since I've spent a lot of my winters with ice, I know how to deal with your quirk." She then tapped her cloth covered shoe.

"My sneakers got grip, because I'm a smart cookie when it comes to picking out shoes. Also I added the DIY slider to better slip past ya." Hailey winked happily and then quickly snapped back into action.

Todoroki glared at the girl's resourcefulness.

Present Mic even commented about it.

"Another quick thinking advantage for Roselle! Who would have thought that's what it would take for her to gain the upper hand."

"The match isn't over yet."

They heard Aizawa remind the speaker.

Hailey nodded, confirming that her teacher was correct.

With that, Hailey dodged another attack of Todoroki's ice by jumping onto the fairly tall wall of ice her created in his earlier attacks.

She then slid off it like a ramp, keeping her clothes shoe on the iced surfaces, while using her gripped shoe to put off of to gain more speed.

"Hey this is kinda fun!" Hailey boasted happily. "We should make a skating rink and I'll teach ya how to skate, Todo!"

"You're getting to be annoying!" Todoroki shouted in frustration.

She hadn't been using her quirk much during the later portions of the festival, meaning that she had a plan for her finale. Todoroki just had to make sure she didn't get the chance and overpower her the moment he could.

Todoroki then made a large area of ice push him and the entire battlefield up a bit, the higher ground made it more difficult to see where the boundaries were.

"You know, you sicken me." Todoroki began, "I thought that you were a genuine and kind person, but after uncovering you being apart of my father's plan for my future, you are nothing but a waste of space to me." He insulted, making Hailey look at him with confusion and a bit of hurt.

"What are you talking about?" She questioned abruptly at what Todoroki was insinuating.

"Your sickening good actor of a mother is in on it too. She's probably doing the same thing to your future for the fame of having a successful child. Such heinous and villainous plans." He continued.

Hailey felt her heart drop.

"You must have been trained in the ways of deception, pretending to be everyone's friend. To only learn of their weaknesses or exploit them in the end? They are weak for relying on your claims of friendship and support."

"Todoroki." Hailey said darkly. "Not a lot of people have been able to accomplish this but, y o u ' r e s t a r t i n g t o p i s s m e o f f " Her eyes began to emit a bright neon blue, which matched the visible boosts on her forearms.

This surprised many people in that stadium, the personality that Hailey exhibited now completely contradicted her usual behaviour.

This was anger, not at its most power, but you could see the rage that surged through Hailey's veins. Her wavelengths pulsated as they grew brighter.

"You've been making claims based on what you cannot provide proof for. And accusing my mother and friends of being weak, bad choice." Hailey threatened, before boosting herself into hand to hand combat with Todoroki.

She went to punch him in the face, but was blocked, so she went for an uppercut, which caused Todoroki to stumble at contact.

But she wasn't done there, she blocked the other attacks that Todoroki tried to land on her. He was able to grab onto her arm and freeze over her skin.

Hailey bit her lip to hold in a cry in pain and kicked him in the arm and side so he'd let go. In response, he did and she used her frozen arm to swing at him. Todoroki was able to dodge it, and Hailey used a boost wave to break the ice off her arm.

"Aren't you disappointed that you didn't become my friend when you had the chance?" Hailey inquired suddenly, her voice had a different tone.

Todoroki looked at her sternly.

"You would have been able to count on me, especially during the Calvary battle, we wouldn't be fighting. I'd be fighting maybe Bakugou instead, maybe it'd be him I'd be the most worried about killing me. But I guess it's your loss." She glared at him, disappointed in the what could've been.

"You won't guilt me into regretting my distance!" He shouted, stomping his foot on the ice. What neither of them realized is that when Hailey used her Boosts, the ice cracked badly in certain places.

Todoroki used his rage to hit Hailey with an ice attack that wasn't attached to the ground. She stumbled back into the more cracked area of ice and in a moment of deafening slowness.

She fell.

The glacier was fairly high, 10 meters one could say. The height where death would be a risk was 15 meters.

Hailey couldn't use a boost to save herself from the fall, Cementoss had used his quirk too much throughout the festival and wouldn't be able to make a soft landing for her anyways. Hailey couldn't think of anyway to maneuver back to land on her feet due to the adrenaline and emotions clouding her judgement.

Hailey could hear everyone gasping, yelling her name in distress and worry or someone to catch her.

Then there was a sickening crack.

———

"Your shoulder sustained most of the injury." Recovery Girl said as she looked at Hailey in worry.

She was slipping out of shock from the event, which made her groan in pain.

"Dislocated and broken?" Melodie questioned, holding her daughter's other hand.

The smaller and older lady nodded her head.

"N-no surgery, right?" Hailey murmured quietly in an uneasy and scared voice

Recovery Girl sucked in a breath before telling the young girl that there were pieces of bone fragments in her shoulder and they would need to be taken out if she wanted to use her shoulder properly. It was obvious that surgery had to be done.

"I wish he just killed me." Hailey groaned, her mother flickered her good arm.

"Hailey don't say that." She warned.

"I'll give you some time though deary, the shock will be wearing off soon and I can hear those kids running down the halls to see you." Recovery Girl said with a sympathetic look.

Before a response from either of the Roselle girls, Iida slammed open the door, followed by Kirishima, Midoriya and Uraraka. All of them had worried looks plastered on their faces.

"Oh thank god you're okay!" Kirishima opened his arms to hug his friend, but Melodie told him not to, her shoulder was badly injured. To which, the teen retracted one of his arms and gave Hailey a very gentle side hug on her good side.

Hailey's face was flushed red from the tears that she subconsciously cried from the pain.

Her mother left with Recovery Girl to further discuss what the best approach was for Hailey's injury.

"That was quite the fall you took Roselle, I hate to admit that I feared that your concern of dying was a high possibility." Iida admitted, sounding relived that he was saying that to the person he worried over.

"Nah, I wasn't going to let him. Although I wished he did, I have to have surgery." Hailey replied sadly, then lightened up and joked to Midoriya that they were surgery buddies.

"I want a t-shirt thay says, 'i had to have surgery after battling Shouto Todoroki and all i got was this shirt' with a picture of us and Todoroki." Hailey laughed.

Uraraka giggled, "Glad to see you feeling better."

"Jokes are the only mechanism that I have to hide the pain." Hailey laughed at her self misery.

"There are reasons why we worry for you." The four said quietly.

Then there was a gentle knock at the door, causing everyone to look at the door to see none other than Todoroki standing at the door. He had a face that read of guilt and hesitation.

Kirishima stood up and glared at him, "Hey man, what are you doing here?! Are you here to sneak attack Hailey? That's very unmanly and you'd have to face me off." He declared very protectively.

"Kiri, it's okay." Hailey reassured him, wincing as she went to raise her right hand in an effort to stop in, and forgetting that that it was attached to her broken shoulder.

"I came to apologize for injuring Roselle as well as my behaviour towards her." Todoroki confessed honestly.

"Well we aren't leaving you two alone." Kirishima stated.

"Yes you are." Hailey contradicted, making her friend turn to her in surprise, "you can wait outside if you are really worried, but there are security cams and Recovery Girl and my mom not far down the hall."

Kirishima groaned in disagreement but followed the others out the door, Iida closed the door behind them.

There was an awkward silence within the room, Todoroki hesitated. He felt regret for what had happened when taking in the features of Hailey's face, the tear stains and rosy cheeks, as wells as the bandages shoulder under the tanktop that Hailey wore.

"How bad is it?" Todoroki interrupted Hailey as she opened her mouth to say something.

She then sighed and looked away from the boy in an attempt to hide her fear that glinted in her eyes, "Recovery Girl is thinking surgery to get the fragments out of my shoulder. Nothing else internal which surprised her and my mom. And just the frostbite, that kind of thing I can deal with."

"I see.." Todoroki trailed off.

There was another moment of silence before he spoke up again, "I felt the world stop when you began to slip off of the ice. I could have reached out to save you or not make the structure in the first place, but I was so angry at you and my father that I was frozen in place." Todoroki confessed.

"Pffft you made a joke," Hailey laughed weakly before she inquired, "I think I know what that thing with you and your dad is about, but you know, I don't have the energy to reexplain what my understanding is of it and have to tell you why I think it's the dumbest shit in the world."

Todoroki looked at her with a stunned expression.

"Just don't assume that my mother or I would agree to any of that. My mom and I have an agreement that I find her a boyfriend before I do." Hailey said sternly, then finished her sentence in a joking matter.

Todoroki finally allowed himself to look at her in amusement.

"I still want to apologize for injuring you to this point and accusing you of being apart of something you aren't, as well as being a bad person. It was uncalled for and a poor call on my better judgment. I'm sorry." Todoroki said in genuine sincerity, and bowed his head on the ground.

"Ahh Todo! You don't have to be so formal with it! I accept your apology!" Hailey cried in a panic.

When Todoroki stood back on his feet, he then bit his lip in hesitation again.

'Dude you didn't hesitate this much when you battled me and everyone else, now is the time to get to the point.' Hailey thought in a bit of annoyance.

"I hope that you have not changed your mind with wanting to be my friend." He said, avoiding eye contact.

Hailey grinned, "Of course not! You better prepare yourself for all the nicknames and jokes that I have for you!"

Todoroki then backed away slowly toward the door, "Perhaps tomorrow, I have a match to get ready for."

Hailey laughed at his attitude, "Okay! Give it your all! I'll be cheering in here!"

"I know you will." With that, Todoroki left.

After her mother and Recovery Girl returned, they did a procedure that didn't require surgery, but a hero that could phase through Hailey's skin and muscles and grab the bones without causing anymore damage. But it was very painful for the young girl to endure.

It was soon over and Melodie walked with her daughter to join her friends back in their seating area.

She sat back down in the front row beside Kirishima and Midoriya, Kirishima offering to be a pillow for her legs or her head after noticing her tired eyes.

The class voiced how happy their were that Hailey was alive and well.

It looked at they were still cleaning the ice from Hailey's match with Todoroki, a replay of the fight was playing and Hailey saw herself falling from the cracked ice.

The way she landed on her shoulder explained how much damage her shoulder had dealt with. She even saw Midnight run up to her body, asking if she was okay and could see how many fingers she was holding up. Hailey saw the tears that ran down her face, but she didn't scream from the pain. Her breathing was rapid when it happened.

"That was a tough battle for the eccentric Roselle." Present Mic said in his commentary. "But I heard from Recovery Girl that she's a-Okay! Can we get a camera on her?"

Suddenly, the screen showed Hailey presently sitting beside her friends. She waved with her left hand and smiled at the camera. Kirishima leaned over and grinned a toothy grin, making Hailey visibly laugh at his antics. Even Kaminari joins in, making a funny face behind Hailey. She and the crowd laughed at them.

"Good on you guys!"

———
Despite the next battle being quick, Hailey fell asleep on Kirishima's shoulder, thankful that it wasn't a rock hard surface.

The nap helped her headache and made her forget of the pain in her shoulder for a bit.

She woke up to the crowd going wild over Todoroki and Bakugou fighting intensely.

"You know, I'm surprised that Todo hasn't just encased Bakugou in a big glacier and used his fire to melt the bottom, so he could slide it out of bounds." Hailey yawned tiredly, "Or Bakugou just blasting the shit out of his hands to either KO Todo or push him out of bounds. Why do these need to drag on so long?"

"It's the final battle for first place, if your match with Todoroki went as fast as your other matches, that would be you down there giving it your all too." Iida chimed in, not removing his sight from the battle.

"Truth to that, but still it's been a looooong day." Hailey whined.

"WOO GO TODO!" Hailey abruptly shouted.

"GO BAKUGOU!" Kirishima joined her.

Then Hailey sunk back to her pillow, "Okay that's all I had left, let me know if someone dies ." Hailey murmured cutely and then fell back asleep.

———
In the end, Bakugou had won first place, everyone watched as All Might gave everyone their medals.

"That would have been cool, to meet All Might and hug him." Hailey commented to Midoriya who had to resist giving her a knowing look.

"Now it is hometime, because I doubt that there is an MVP award!" Hailey declared and turned to leave, only to have All Might call her name.

She twitched nervously and turned towards her favourite hero.

"H-Hello All Might!" She greeted.

Midoriya greeted him too happily, All Might acknowledged his good efforts and then turned his attention back to the redhead.

"Young Roselle, I've heard and witnessed your noble sportsmanship towards not only your classmates, but opponents as well. You are very admirable, and I wish there was an award that I could give you." All Might praised her.

Hailey shook her head, "I appreciate the thought sir, but it's what any hero should be admired for in my eyes. Like you, I want to raise other's spirits and encourage them to reach their full potential!" She explained to him.

All Might patted her head in admiration, "With an attitude like that, you will make a very good hero in the future. Keep at it!" He encouraged.

"Uhm All Might, sir?" Midoriya piped in.

"Yes, young Midoriya?" All Might questioned.

"Hailey was just telling me how it would make her day if you gave her a hug." He suggested, making Hailey question his loyalty for a moment before hearing All Might laugh.

"Of course that is no problem!" He had a wide grin, "I will sure to be careful of your shoulder." He then proceeded to gently wrap his arms around the smaller girl, while being weary of her injured shoulder.

Hailey trembled and felt tears pour down her face in a whole series of emotions.
