{My Hero Academia} Provincial Exam Pt 1
Quite the transition, as the Provincial Exam day approached, Hailey forced herself to practice both of her ultimate moves, her newest one the less. After the fourth day, she became very timid when it came to the subject of the paralysis wave.
Despite Mr Aizawa's words being encouraging, Hailey saw the quirk as some sort of last resort, in fear of hurting someone.
But nonetheless, like everyone else in her class, she worked as hard as she could.
When training was over, she decided to read through some of her first aid and rescue training basic books. This was not only to pass the time, but maybe it would be useful during the exam or future internships.
Hailey was now talking to Midoriya, Kaminari and Kirishima about their costume upgrades.
"Duuuude! You guys look totally awesome!" She exclaimed, her eyes sparkling.
"You too, Hails, I think everyone looks pretty badass!" Kirishima grinned.
"Yeah do you wanna see my new power booster?!" Kaminari was excited and motioned to the device on his wrist.
"Yeah!-"
Suddenly, Vlad King interrupted the class, telling them to get out, since Class B had the gym scheduled for the afternoon.
"You aren't trying to take the gym when we have ten minutes left, are you?" Mr Aizawa inquired to his colleague.
Then of course, Monoma had to speak up. "Hey did you hear that the license exam have a fifty percent pass rate? That means your entire class might fail."
"Shut uuppppp," Hailey groaned, "literally you are wasting everyone's time."
Then everyone was informed that Class A and Class B were to take the exam different days, there's one in June and one in September, and the exams were held in three different places. This was because they didn't want students from the same place fighting.
Monoma then out a snark, "How sad, we won't be able to face against each other directly." Then began laughing.
"Oh please, you're just relieved that we won't be the ones responsible for you failing. I'm sure Bakugou wouldn't hesitate for sure." Hailey glared.
The students realized that there would be other students from other schools going to that exam, as well as this class being of first years. Me Aizawa acknowledged that all of those were true, his students would be facing off against students who have training longer than them and had quirks that his students will not know.
"The actual content of the exam is a mystery, but you can expect that you're going to have a rough time." He explained, "Try not to get hung up about that, but keep it in mind."
"Yes Sir!"
————
Night feel and Hailey was sitting with the girls in the common area. She sipped I'm her chocolate milk and had her feet elevated and iced.
"Uggggh! Why is this so hard?!" Mina whined, referring to the training.
Yaoyarozu agreed that it was tough and that it was strange to think that the test was a week away.
Hagakure asked the girls about their ultimate moves, each giving the honest answer that they were coming along, some lacking in something.
"How about you, Hailey?" Tsuyu inquired.
"Yeah on the fourth day, did something happen?" Jirou questioned, feeling concerned.
Hailey sighed, "I've got that one move from the Final Exam almost perfect, but when coming up with my second... it's not something I'm happy or comfortable with." She admitted.
"Hm, well I'm sure you'll figure it out." Yaoyarozu offered an encouraging smile.
"What about you, Ochako?" Hagakure asked.
But she didn't respond, when Tsuyu nudged her, Uraraka shrieked and exclaimed that she was fine, but admitted that's what she'd usually say.
"Recently, my heart's been all stirred up about something." She admitted, a blush creeping on her face.
"It's love!" Mina exclaimed.
The girls laughed at Uraraka trying to change the subject, saying that she misheard Mina.
"So who is it? Midoriya or Iida? You're always hanging out with them!" Mina pressed on.
Hailey chuckled as Uraraka squirmed in embarrassment.
"Don't worry, Ura, I think I've been the same." She smiled, causing Uraraka and the rest of the girls to look at her in shock. "I mean, it's like I feel more happier around him, I'm at ease. He's so cute and adorable."
"So- Who is it?!" The girls cried.
Hailey blushed, "Don't think that I'll tell you that easily! I've got to work on myself before going into a relationship! If you haven't noticed, I've got a lot of shit I need to get through!" Then she sounded like she second guessed herself, "I mean it would be nice to have that support, getting hugs, holding hands- HEY STOP MAKING ME SECOND GUESS MYSELF!" She suddenly yelled, more embarrassed.
"Is it Todoroki?"
"Bakugou?"
"Kirishima?"
"Iida?"
"Midoriya?"
"OKAY YOU KNOW WHAT?" Hailey stood up, "I'm going on a walk, fuck you, I can't freaking emotion right now!" She declared and rushed outside.
'Jesus, should have known that no matter what school you go to, the girls have to know every crush.' Hailey sighed as she walked outside the building.
She continued to walk, only to hear the sounds of limbs swishing against nothing. When approaching to see what it was, Hailey saw it was Midoriya training.
She smiled as he quickly crouched down to read his book on the ground and muttering something about Iida looking more flexible.
"Shouldn't you be in bed, not over training, Izu?" Hailey questioned, teasing him a bit.
Midoriya looked up and sheepishly smiled at her, "I'm just practicing my moves."
"Like the one you did today? That was really cool." Hailey grinned and sat on the grass on the other side of the book. "Do you need any help?"
"Actually, since you use both your arms and legs in your fighting style, could you give me some tips?" Midoriya requested.
Hailey nodded with a smile, "Yeah sure, what do you wanna focus on? I heard you muttering about flexibility. We could do that, or balance, force, strength, whatever you want." She suggested, causing Midoriya's eyes to glimmer in determination.
———-
Soon enough, the day finally came for the provincial exam, Hailey looked at the building, feeling nervous but also excited.
She blew a raspberry on her lips, as she held onto her costume case.
"How are you feeling about this Sho?" Hailey questioned her friend that was her seat mate earlier.
"Fine, it's better not to think of the worst possible scenario." Todoroki responded, obviously hinting at something.
"You know I struggle with that." Hailey groaned, catching on to what he was saying.
"Oh what will I do if I can't get my license?!" Mineta cried, not feeling confident.
Mr Aizawa bent down to the smaller student's level, "Mineta, don't ask if you can. Say you will." He encouraged.
"Right! Sure! I got this!" Mineta exclaimed.
Mr Aizawa then stood up and looked at the rest of his students, "If you can pass this test and get your provisional licenses, then you novice eggs will hatch into chicks. You'll be semi pros. I expect your best." He said sternly.
"Alright! I can't wait to be a heroic chicken!" Kaminari exclaimed.
"Yeah lets call out the usual, you guys! Let's go Plus-" Kirishima joined.
(Excuse me, who the fuck are you on the left? Fuck off)
"ULTRA!" Declared a student that no one knew.
Well except Todoroki.
"You know, it's pretty rude to barge into other people's huddles like that, Inasa." One of the guy's classmates scolded.
"What? Pardon me!" Yoarashi apologized, very dramatically. "I am so... very... extremely... sorry!" He then bowed to the class, to the point where hie smashed his head to the ground.
A few students were confused and shocked, but to lessen the intensity, Hailey giggled, "It's all good, I'm glad to see someone else as pumped as we are for this."
"Hey look at their uniforms." Jirou suddenly said.
"Their that famous school form the other side of Japan." Sero realized.
"U.A. in the East, Skiketsu in the West." Bakugou commented.
Hailey then realized that this was the other school that her mom also transferred her to. "Oh wow, could you imagine?" She breathed.
"I just wanted to say it once! Plus Ultra! See, I really love U.A. High School! I am extremely honoured to compete such incredible students!" Yoarashi exclaimed, very aggressively, then his head started bleeding from his head hitting the ground.
"Oh my gosh!" Hailey shrieked, suddenly freaked out.
"Inasa Yoarashi." Aizawa muttered.
"Do you know that guy, Mr Aizawa?" Hagakure questioned.
"Indeed." Mr Aizawa replied, "He's strong. He's the same age as you all and received the top scores for students admitted through recommendations. But for some unknown reason, he turned down his acceptance into U.A. and went to Shiketsu."
"Erasure?" A woman's voice called out to the U.A. teacher, causing him to stiffen up. "I'd know that scowl anywhere! I saw you on TV and at the Sports Festival, but it's been awhile since we were this close in person!"
"She looks familiar.." Midoriya said out loud, only to be interrupted by Hailey's gleaming eyes.
"Let's get married." The green haired woman suggested nonchalantly to Mr Aizawa.
"No." He replied.
"Ms Joke!" Hailey exclaimed happily.
Ms Joke turned and smiled at Hailey, "Hey there kiddo, it's been even longer since I've seen you!"
"You know her?!" Her classmates questioned.
"Mhm! I did a full study project on her for my Career and Technology Class, since mom and her were internship buddies, I got to meet her!" Hailey explained proudly to her classmates with a grin. "She's been one of my favourite heroes since middle school- She's so great!"
As Ms Joke continued to 'banter' with Mr Aizawa, Mr Aizawa made vocal note that if Ms Joke was here, so would her class.
"That's right!" Ms Joke answered and looked behind her to motion for her students to catch up. "Over here everyone! This is U.A.!"
"Oh wow, this is really is Class A!" The dark haired boy gushed.
"Wow it's so amazing! I've seen them on TV!" The blonde hair girl added with the same enthusiasm.
"Second years from Ketsubutsu Academy. This is Class 2, they're my students." Ms Joke introduced.
The tall, black haired male grabbed onto Midoriya's hands and introduced himself, but on a lower level of enthusiasm compared to Yoarashi. "I'm Shindo! Seems like U.A. has had a lotta trouble this year, musta been tough for you!"
"Uh, yeah." Midoriya sputtered.
Shindo introduced himself to Kaminari and Jirou before finally grabbing hands with Hailey and suddenly, something happened.
"I-I'm Shindo and.. you.. you smell like vanilla!" He exclaimed, his confident demeanour changing into a nervous one.
They both blushed and everyone turned to look at them.
"U-uh thank you.. it might be my hand lotion." Hailey stuttered.
"That's why they're so soft!" Shindo blurted, then began to sweat nervously .
Hailey awkwardly laughed and then shook his hands, "I'm Hailey Roselle." She introduced.
"Oh yeah, I know, you and Bakugou were in that kidnapping incident." Shindo gleamed.
"Oh.." Hailey deadpanned, suddenly feeling like that was a turn off from the conversation.
"You and him must be so brave and strong willed! I'm going to do my best to learn from you! I hope that's okay!" Shindo continued, only to have his hand slapped away by Bakugou.
"Stop pretending. What you say doesn't match that look in your eyes." Bakugou scowled coldly.
Hailey saw his look change as well, and looked at Shindo in a studying gaze, as she heard Kirishima scold Bakugou and apologize for him.
The girl asked Todoroki for an autograph, since he was so cool at the sports festival.
Mr Aizawa then ordered the students to go get their costumes on and head to orientation.
"I'll see you later, b-beautiful!" Shindo called out to Hailey, waving at her as he left with his classmates.
————-
Orientation was an.. experience to say the least, having to take out two people by throwing.. huh.
Hailey felt bittersweet about the whole thing. For one, she was disappointed that there wasn't more to it in regards to heroing. It was like the entrance exam to get into U.A., but without robots. Hailey has placed her targets on her forearms and one on her stomach.
She was getting better at dodging and as long as she paid attention and kept moving, she wouldn't be an easy person to take down.
Hailey also felt that she had a good throw again. It was going to take a lot more than taking out left wrist to stop this out fielder. Besides, she learnt to throw with both arms.
Hailey wanted to find a good terrain that would have nice hiding spots and good ground for her to use her quirk. Of course that could be anywhere.
"Everyone! Stay close together, we can fight them as a group!" Midoriya called to his classmates.
"Better than being swarmed alone." Hailey agreed.
"Yeah right, this isn't a field trip." Bakugou spat and began to walk away.
"Idiot, wait up!" Kirishima called after him and followed him.
"I'm going on my own too." Todoroki announced. "It's hard for me to use my powers safely when a big group's around."
"Hey! Have someone at least have your back!" Hailey called, but didn't run after him. He did have a point, but Hailey knew that if she followed him, she'd only be in his way. Maybe if Kirishima had followed with her, she'd go. The Red Head Trio would be good in this type of thing, add Bakugou and yeah, almost invincible. "Good luck!"
Midoriya led the others in a jog, "I don't think that it's a good idea for them to go off on their own."
"Why not?" Mineta asked.
"Think about it, everyone already knows what powers we have."
"They did research?" Uraraka questioned.
"Well we can't be that surprised, the Sports Festival is broadcasted all over Japan, the other schools aren't that high profile. Dammit, why didn't I realize that sooner?" Hailey cursed.
"It's most likely that they'll gang up on quirks that they know." Midoriya warned his classmates.
*BEEEEEEEEP*
"The first test will now begin."
Suddenly, before the students' eyes, many students from different schools appeared before them in the air. Their attack balls in hand.
"I saw you on TV," Shindo smirked at Midoriya, "that power of your destroys your body. Well can't say that I'm above taking advantage of that!" He then, along with many others threw one of their balls at the students.
"Look out!" Hailey shouted, pulled Midoriya and Ashido out of the way and using her Vocal Wave to send some of the balls back towards the students who threw them. After stopping her quirk, she caught two balls sharply. "Big mistake on thinking you can get away with playing dirty. I'm not going to lose to a bunch of wannabes." Hailey glared, her eyes glowing.
