{My Hero Academia} Now or Never

As the students returned to their dormery, Hailey exhaustedly fell face first onto the couch.

"I am ready to pass away." She said through the sofa cushion.

"You worked really hard today, Hailey. Don't give up on us now!" Denki teased, ruffling her hair.

"Yeah, you were the MVP today!" Kirishima cheered.

Hailey sat up and smiled at her classmates, "You guys are real sweet. But I wouldn't have done so well, if it weren't for you all inspiring me to be the best version of myself." She said genuinely.

Mina's eyes watered and she squeezed Hailey from behind, "We must protect you!" She sobbed.

Hailey giggled and patted on Mina's arm, then noticed that Izuku was staring at his phone in excitement.

She smiled fondly at him, "Hey Izu, you tell your mom about getting your license yet?"

Midoriya looked at and returned her smile, "Yeah, she said that she started crying and was really proud of me."

'That is just so precious.' Hailey gushed in her thoughts.

"Of course she would be, you really shined during the exam." She winked, causing the green haired boy's face to flush.

Just then, Bakugou entered the room with a serious aura around him and called to Midoriya.

"You. Meet me outside out front later." He said and as he walked by Midoriya, said something else that only Midoriya could hear.

Hailey noticed and walked up to Midoriya, "Hey, what was that about?" She asked, lowly.

"I-I don't know.." Midoriya answered, but Hailey wasn't convinced.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The common area was as vacant as it was dark, the only light source came from Hailey's phone.

She sat on the couch, legs pulled into her chest, as she looked through series of text messages she had with her mother. When she made it to the most recent, an icon right of above her message bar read 'This Number Is Disconnected'.

Hailey sighed, disheartened again.

She was having no luck coming into contact with her mother in recent days. Hailey assumed that her mother had destroyed her cellphone so she wouldn't be tracked by the villain that was..

Hailey let out another sigh, she had almost forgotten what her father had become.

Although she knew that everyone was sleeping, except Bakugou and Midoriya, Hailey refused to give into her stinging eyes and cry. She wiped her eyes and sniffled.

"How did my life go this far into shit?" She murmured.

"Oh I didn't know anyone was still up." Piped up a tired voice.

Hailey let out a surprised squeak, but then relaxed as she recognized All Might's now skinny form.

"Shouldn't you be in bed, Young Roselle?" All Might inquired, and turned on a lamp to provide some light.

"Y-yeah I am.. sorry All Might." Hailey nervously chuckled. "I was just..I was just.." Hailey trailed off and looked back at her phone screen.

"Just what, Hailey?" All Might questioned.

Hailey panicked. She could either tell her teacher about her mother's digital trail being completely gone or the two students that were probably fighting outside somewhere.

All Might noticed her hesitance, "Sorry, I don't mean to make you comfortable by pressuring you to talk to me, I can find Aizawa if that works better for you." He offered.

"Oh no, I wouldn't want to wake him up or anything! But.. but thank you All Might." Hailey smiled thankfully at him. "I just.. I just miss my mom a lot.. I know that she's scared of being tracked down by .. Paralyzer.. but I just wanna talk to her, tell her how much closer I am to becoming a pro hero.." Hailey sniffled and held back her tears. "But there are more important things to worry about. I think Izu and Baku are fighting somewhere on school property and I think that someone is going to get really hurt."

All Might gave Hailey a surprised look, as he tried to process the information that he was given. Of course she threw in two different problems, but he decided the more pressing matter.

"Uh.. thank you for telling me, Young Roselle, I'll go handle the boys and talk to you about this later, if that's alright?"

Hailey stood up, "I'm coming with you. You might need some help in case Bakugou's being too tough to negotiate with." She told him, determined.

All Might sighed, "Alright, but do not get involved without my instructions." He warned her and the two walked outside.

As they stepped down the concrete steps, Mr Aizawa opened the door, muttering about who would be sneaking off so late.

"Don't worry Aizawa, we'll get them." All Might reassured.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hailey noticed the smoke from Ground Beta and realized that was where the boys were.

"All Might." She pointed to the location.

The two began jogging towards the training zone and when finally getting closer, heard Bakugou screaming at Midoriya. His whole speech about feeling that he was to blame for All Might's state. When Hailey noticed another attack coming from Bakugou while Midoriya laid on the ground, she gasped and boosted herself in between them.

"Stop it!" She shouted and grabbed onto Bakugou's arm, receiving a bit of a burn from some of the sparks.

"HUH? What the hell are you doing here?!" Bakugou screamed in frustration.

"Stopping you from hurting yourself anymore!" Hailey answered, panting in exhaustion.

"Huh..?" Both boys breathed.

"I see what you're doing to yourself, Baku. I see how you beat yourself up over losing the high standing you've grown up with to Izu. You want to fight, only because you don't want to show how you're really feeling! I get it." Hailey exclaimed, tears beginning to stream down her cheeks. "You feel powerless when things are out of your control, but you can't let anyone know because you don't want them to see how weak you feel! Don't blame yourself for how things turned out."

"Stop this right now. Both of you." All Might finally called as he showed up. "I'm sorry, but I heard what you've said."

"All Might.." Bakugou breathed in shock.

"When'd you get here?" Midoriya panted from exhaustion.

"I didn't notice before, I should have." All Might said, with a serious look on his face.

"It's too late now." Bakugou retorted, as Hailey helped Midoriya to his feet.

"Why did you pick Deku?" Bakugou asked, Midoriya gasping and Hailey turned and looked confused. "It started when the sludge villain came, didn't it? So why him?"

Hailey gave All Might a concerned look, a way of asking if she should stay for this. It wasn't any of her business.

"I should go." She blurted anyways. "I'll tell Mr Aizawa that they stopped fighting."

Midoriya went to reach to Hailey and tell her to stay, but All Might thanked Hailey and she left.

"That girl has too many problems to worry about, let's not add another onto her." All Might told his predecessor.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hailey was taken to Recovery Girl's office once Mr Aizawa saw the scratches on her arm, despite her saying that she could just bandage it up. She wanted Recovery Girl to heal the boys who were fighting, believing that they were more injured than her.

When All Might finally entered with the boys trailing behind him.

Their homeroom teacher was anything but thrilled that they were fighting. He retrained them in his binding cloth tightly.

"I'm glad to see that you two have so much energy." He said passive aggressively.

"Aizawa, hold up with those restraints! It's my fault they parred in the first place." All Might defended.

"Huh and how is that?" Mr Aizawa questioned and while the boys yelped, All Might whispered to their homeroom teacher what it was.

Aizawa grunted and released the restraints on the students before setting his foot down on no matter what the reasoning for the fight, a punishment was to be brought in.

Even when Bakugou fessed up to throwing the first punch and Midoriya confessing that he didn't go easy on Bakugou either, Aizawa placed them both on house arrest. Bakugou had four, while Midoriya had only three.

Hailey attempted to lighthearted laugh, "Hey I just finished bandaging myself up from today, so I can help fix you guys up." She offered.

"Thanks Hailey-" Midoriya was about to accept gratefully, but Aizawa was quick to shut that down.

"Don't even think about it, you two can figure out how to heal yourselves!" He barked.

Hailey sweated, but her phone ringing caught hers, and everyone's attention. Upon seeing her phone identify the caller as an unknown number, Hailey let out a hum and left the room to answer the call.

"Hello?" Hailey said as she put the phone to her phone.

"Hey sweetie, did I catch you at a bad time?"

Hailey's eyes widened as she recognized the voice.

"Mom?" She gasped. "Is that really you?"

"Y-yeah, sorry that I left you hanging for so long. How are you?" The voice of her mother asked.

"I-I've been great! What about you? I felt like we haven't talked in forever. When was that?" Hailey blurted, happily.

There was a pause before she got an unsure toned answer, "Oh man, must have been a month ago."

Hailey was taken back for a moment, had it really been that long? Hailey was able to send and receive texts from her mother before she was entrusted to Endeavour's care. That was only two weeks ago.

"Hey honey, do you think that you could stop by the house sometime maybe this week?" Her mom suggested suddenly.

"What for?" Hailey asked.

"Well there are some papers in my office that I need you to make sure your dad hasn't taken." She answered.

"Uhh.. what kind of papers? The restraining order? Deed to the house?"

"Just, uh, anything that looks important. Just throw them and lock them in the usual spot."

Hailey hesitated before agreeing, "Yeah, yeah, okay. I'll go after school tomorrow or something. Depends on the training and teachers."

"Awesome, love you sweetie!" Her mom exclaimed and hung up.

Hailey looked at her phone and leaned her back against the wall, feeling conflicted. Maybe she was over analyzing everything, but at the same time, even though it was her mother's voice, the way she spoke wasn't familiar in that sense.

Something didn't feel right.
