{My Hero Acadamia} "I'm Sorry, I'm More Scared Than I Look"

I love making up characters 0wo

The day after the exams finished, Hailey almost didn't want to show up to classes, but there was the important hero training that would be best not to miss.

It was during one of Mr Aizawa's classes that there was a polite but firm knock heard from the other side of the door. Mr Aizawa told whoever waited on the other side to enter.

The students looked surprised and taken aback from a detective being accompanied by two other police officers, being the ones to walk in and interrupt the class.

"What can we do for you, Detective Roma?" Mr Aizawa prompted the tall male to explain why he was there.

There were murmurs from some of the students about why the police were standing before them and if someone from their class must of done something to grab the law's attention.

"I swear if it's another lecture about our quirks being used in public." Todoroki grumbled to himself quietly, in annoyance to the Hozu Incident.

"I apologize for interupting your class like this, Mr Aizawa, but we heard that Hailey Roselle was in this class?" Detective Roma asked.

The teacher was taken aback for a moment when hearing Hailey's name, not finding it likely for her to get in trouble with the authorities for anything bad.

"She's uh, right there." Mr Aizawa replied, motioning to the petrified girl in the middle row.

Hailey's classmates looked at her in shock and worry too, not believing that she could have possibly done something illegal.

"Ms Roselle, would you please step out with us for just a moment?" The detective requested.

Hailey felt her palms sweat in anxiety and felt her stomach turn from the paranoia that she may have broken the law without knowing it.

But she nodded and got out of her seat and stiffly followed the officers and detective out of her classroom and down to an empty room within the school.

Detective Roma motioned towards the couch, "How about you take a seat, Hailey." He offered.

The detective pulled up a chair and sat across from Hailey as she awkwardly sat on the couch.

The two officers stood outside, guarding the door to the room.

"Look, I know I shouldn't have made a big deal of pulling you out in front of your classmates and shouldn't be talking to you without a lawyer or parent, but this case is important and I have permission from your Principal to act accordingly." The detective began, as he pulled back his gelled, light pink hair.

"W-whatever it is Detective, I don't mind, as long as I'm helpful in your case." Hailey tried to reassure herself more than him that she wasn't the person he wanted to throw behind bars.

Detective Roma smiled at the high school student, "I appreciate that, and I think you will be helpful." He then pulled out a photo from his pocket. "Do you happen to recognize this man?" He asked as he showed Hailey the picture.

It was of a kind of older than middle aged man, he had a scowl on his face and dark brown eyes.

Hailey's eyes widened as she recognized the man as the drunk gentleman that was harassing her on the train ride from Midoriya's house after their study session.

"Y-yeah, that was the guy from the train a week or something ago. He was intoxicated or something and harassing me- I don't know if that's too strong of a word, but he was invading my personal space and I was really scared that he was gonna do something to me." Hailey truthfully explained to the detective.

"Hmm, intoxicated.." he noted, "Anything else about him that you noticed?"

Hailey shook her head, "No not really, he wasn't on the train much longer after another guy stepped in and restrained him before pulling him off of the train with him." Hailey recalled, feeling once again grateful that that man had stepped in.

The detective then had a solemn look on his face, giving Hailey a sense of dread form.

"Detective, why are you asking me about that man?" Hailey questioned nervously.

"His name was Burick Jivive, he was the owner of a large company that manufactured weapons for quirks, more on the illegal side of things." The detective explained, Hailey gulped when she noticed that the detective was referring the man in pretence. "Four days ago, his coworkers reported him missing when they were busted by the police force. Yesterday afternoon, we found him in an alley close to the Tatooin Station. His limbs were burned to a crisp in what looked to be a powerful fire quirk, and he looked to have been dead for days."

Hailey felt as if she were going to throw up from the information that was just presented to her. Her hands tightly gripped her skirt and she sweated.

"... T-that.. h-how..?" She squeaked, feeling horrified.

The detective noted Hailey's complexion turning pale at the news. He sighed, and apologized to her for the way that she was involved.

"I saw the train's security footage from last week and figured that you weren't connected to him. But I gotta ask why you were on that train at 11 at night?" The detective questioned, wanting to know her alibi.

"I had been... s-studying at my friend Midoriya's house, s-since we had our finals this week." Hailey breathed, trying to relax.

The detective took sympathy on the girl, having read her file when seeing her appearance on the footage.

"I'm sorry again for having to stress you out about this. Thank you for your time and honesty. I don't think your teachers would be upset if you leave, they'll be hearing about this later from their Principal." The detective said gently, before leading Hailey out the door and telling his officers to come into the room to discuss the information.

Hailey shakily walked down the hallway, the feeling of vomiting not leaving her body. As she began to recall all of the scenario in her head, she felt a suffocating feeling in her throat.

Midoriya, Kirishima, Mina, Iida, Uraraka, Todoroki and Bakugou were walking down the hallway when they noticed Hailey walking towards them.

"Hey Hailey!" Kirishima grinned.

"How did it go?" Midoriya questioned.

"So are you a troubled youth yet?" Bakugou sneered, clearly meaning it more as a joke.

Hailey ignored her classmates as she rushed past the group and toward the girl's bathroom, covering her mouth.

Uraraka and Mina looked at each other with concern on their expression and rushed to follow their classmate.

When they opened the door to the bathroom, they heard gagging and the sound of Hailey throwing up the contents of seemed to be her breakfast.

"Hailey- oh my god are you alright?!" Uraraka shrieked.

Mina then rushed over to her friend and pulled her red hair into a pony tail to keep it from getting messy.

"What happened in there, girl?" Mina questioned after a few moments of Hailey continuing to dispose of her stomach's contents.

Hailey let out a shaky breath and wiped her mouth with a tissue that Uraraka passed to her.

"I-I-I do-dont know if I can- I didn't ." Hailey tried to explain, but she hiccuped as her voice was cracking from all the stressful emotions that she was feeling.

Mina and Uraraka threw their arms around their friend's body in a supportive hug.

After another few moments, the girls helped Hailey freshen up, Hailey chewed a piece of gum to help mask the stench of vomit breath and she walked between her friends into the lunch hall.

"Here, I'll go grab you something to help with your stomach and some food." Mina offered as she and Uraraka led Hailey to the table that they and their friends were sitting at, before walking off to the line.

"Hailey, are you alright?" Midoriya asked, he too had an expression of worry on his face.

Hailey shrugged her shoulders and looked at the table dully.

"What happened with that detective guy?" Hagakure questioned, before being interrupted by Iida.

"We mustn't impose ourselves in a private matter, what happened to Hailey and the police is her business unless she is comfortable with sharing with us!" He proclaimed.

"So it is true!" An annoying voice exclaimed.

Monoma peered over at the table of Class 1-A students with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"I heard that a Class 1-A student is in trouble with the police! How unnerving! For someone who wants to be a hero, they can't even follow the laws!"

Everyone glared at the blonde, feeling protective over their emotionally vulnerable classmate.

"So what was it that you did? Did you rob someone or shoplift? Ooh! I bet you murdered someone! Maybe this is only the beginning, I wouldn't be surprised if you were in the middle of a massive murder in the near future! No one would suspect a little girl in the Hero Course." Monoma continued.

"Why you-" Todoroki growled, attempting to stand from his seat, only to have Hailey pull on his sleeve and stop him.

"Monoma, you are overstepping a boundary!" Iida shouted at the blonde.

"Am I-"

"Hey dumbass, how about you step the fuck back before I punch your face in?" Bakugou threatened, approaching Monoma with Kirishima and Kaminari beside him. They all sent menacing glares at the 1-B student.

Luckily, Kendo noticed all the commotion and had Testutesu help her remove their classmate from the dangerous situation that he created for himself.

"Thanks Bakugou." Uraraka thanked with a sigh of relief.

Hailey looked up at him and the others. She nodded and looked at him with gratitude.

"Whatever, not like I'm gonna like some 1-B dumbass know shit in my class before I do." Bakugou retorted, he then stared at the red headed girl, "So are you gonna tell us or are we gonna have to find out by watching the news?" He asked in a serious tone.

Hailey let out a sigh, she had been reluctant to tell everyone, especially Midoriya. Since it was after he and his mother pleaded for her to make a safer choice than walking out on the dark streets alone.

"L-last week, after I left Izu's house, I-I was on the train and this d-drunk guy was pestering me and getting all up in my personal space. I-I was scared that something bad would have happened if another guy hadn't stepped in and took him off the train with him." Hailey felt a large weight of guilt pull down her shoulders.

Midoriya's eyes were wide, he felt indirectly responsible for what Hailey had went through.

"So what, the guy's in jail now?" Kaminari questioned, not seeing why the cops had to pull Hailey from class.

"The guy's dead, Kami." Hailey said with a tone of voice that resonated hopelessness and dread. "He was murdered and they just discovered his body. His arms and legs burnt to a crisp."

Her classmates gasped in horror or their complexions paled in shock.

"I-I," Hailey huffed our another breath, "I'm just a little frazzled about the whole thing."

"Hails, are you-"

"Please don't- i-its hard to wrap my head around the fact that in just a day or even a week, that person that I only shared a few words with is suddenly dead. I don't even understand why.."

Her peers then fell silent, causing Hailey to feel guilty for putting a burden on their shoulders.

"S-sorry, I should just go talk to Mr Aizawa real quick." Hailey quickly said before leaving the table and the lunch room.

She didn't lie, she did find Mr Aizawa who was speaking to the police in the classroom.

Her teacher understood her situation and gave her permission to return home. Mr Aizawa offered to call her mother, but Hailey said that she didn't want to worry her mother until it was unavoidable. Detective Roma then suggested that he give her a ride home, Hailey wanted to decline, but the detective insisted that he'd rather know that she was safe at home rather than vulnerable walking alone on the streets.

So discreetly, they left without drawing more attention to them.

Hailey was worried that if people were to see a police car drive up to her house to drop her off, neighbours and unwanted attention would follow.

Turns out, the detective's vehicle was a regular black car. The police car belonging to the other two police officers, who were ordered to question and speak to the faculty.

The drive itself was filled with tension and a heavy silence weighed on the two. Most awkward being that the only conversation that had involved displeasing circumstances.

"So, what kind of hero you gonna be? Assuming that's why you're in the number one hero course." The detective prompted conversation to help ease the tense atmosphere.

"I was considering rescue, but a lot of people are suggesting that I branch out my options. You never know." Hailey responded, allowing herself to engage in the conversation. It was either that or suffer in the suffocating silence.

Detective Roma nodded his head, "Cool, cool. What would be your backup plan of heroing didn't work out?" He asked.

Hailey hummed as she tried to recall her career classes that she had to attend before applying for U.A.

"Social worker, mental health councillor or elementary teacher." Hailey answered, "I still get to help people, which is what I've always wanted to do."

"That seems to suit you, always putting others first. A good heroic quality, but could lead to your defeat if you aren't careful." The older man warned her.

------

When she entered her home, Hailey made her way to her bedroom and changed into some casual clothing.

Hailey glanced at her laptop that laid on her art table. A familiar feeling of sickness in her gut forming. She tried to coax herself into not doing anything that would further the feeling, but it was futile.

Hailey then sat in her cushioned chair and logged into her laptop before opening a search bar.

'No, there wouldn't be anything about the whole thing in the news yet.'

'But then again..'

The keys tapped loudly under her fingers' aggressive pressure. With a final clink, the search bar loaded and with that, Hailey began to scan through the results.

Hailey then searched through the drawers beside her table and pulled out a galaxy covered notebook and an erasable blue pen. Hailey then began to take notes from her screen.

Suddenly, a loud thud caused Hailey to quickly snap her head to the direction of her door. Feeling her pulse race with so many assumptions running through her mind a minute, Hailey cautiously stood from her seat. She hastily tiptoed to her closed door, and grabbed the black metal baseball bag that hid beside the doorframe.

Stepping out of her room and towards the whereabouts of where she heard the sound, Hailey readied the bar into a swinging position.

When she turned the corner, she saw a person trying to shut the window to the laundry room before tightening her grip on the bat.

Then the 'intruder' turned around and screamed at the sight of Hailey.

"MIDORIYA?!" Hailey shouted in surprise, her bat still raised, "What the hell?! I could have killed you!"

"Y-you were going to swing?!" Midoriya sputtered out nervously with a shriek.

Hailey rested the bat on her shoulder, "Um, damn right I was going to swing at you, you broke into my house! Jesus, you guys are gonna give me paranoia and terrible anxiety." She huffed.

"Oh well, I didn't mean to." He answered quietly.

"Oh so you 'accidentally' climbed through my window. What's next, Kiri coming through the back door with Sero hanging over my windows from the roof?" Hailey said sarcastically.

Midoriya paused for a moment, "I'll tell them not to do that." He said before reaching for his phone.

"Oh my god!" Hailey shouted in disbelief that that almost happened.

"What are you even doing here?" Hailey groaned in annoyance.

Midoriya then looked down at his legs, "Well I-we were worried about you after you left. And we knew that this wouldn't be something that you needed to deal with all by yourself."

Hailey's gaze softened, she then set her bar against the wall. "Sorry for making you all worry. I hope you didn't skip classes just to visit me."

Midoriya stood up and shook his head, "You shouldn't be feeling sorry! We really care about you!" He exclaimed genuinely.

A feeling of warmth filled Hailey's chest at her classmate's words.

Hailey then let out a sigh and motioned for Midoriya to follow her out of the laundry room and to the living room.

"If you're gonna be a Pro Hero, you gotta work on your approach when checking on people. Almost had a panic attack." Hailey said half joking.

Midoriya felt a bit more guilt, remembering that Hailey had mentioned her anxiety had moments where it was hypened.

"Sorry about that, Hailey. I shouldn't have just rushed over here and climbed through the window. I didn't realize how much stress you were under." He apologized wholehearted.

Hailey sent him a small smile, before noticing Kirishima at her door and Sero hanging upside down like Spider-Man from the outside of her window.

"Good Christ." She muttered and opened the window for her classmate to enter her house.

"Anyone else coming over or is this your ninja squad?" She joked.

"Yeah this is all that could come." Kirishima awkwardly chuckled, "Sorry for the entrance."

"You at least came through the front door! These two would have been smacked in sight with my bat! You're lucky that we're not at my old place, or I would have shot first and asked questions later." Hailey giggled.

"I'm pretty sure that's still just murder." Sero commented.

"Well that's what you get for breaking and entering! Trespassing gonna get ya killed." Hailey jested, then realized something important. "How did you guys even find my house?!"

"Todoroki." Sero replied.

"I'm guessing he's still at school?"

Midoriya nodded, "Yeah, he said he'd rather not deal with his father fussing over him skipping a few classes."

Hailey raised her eyebrow, "So you guys did dip out of school. Seriously, you guys didn't need to check up on me."

Sero then checked his phone when a notification went off from his pocket. "Looks like we're busted." He sighed, "Mina said that Mr Aizawa isn't happy that we left without permission and better hurry back to the school or we'll have to face the consequences next week."

Kirishima groaned in annoyance, "The one time that Mr Aizawa cares about where we are. If it's an apology essay, I swear..."

"Guys you've still got three classes left, I'm alive and well, go back. I don't want you to get in trouble because you were worried about me." Hailey told them, feeling guilty for how everything was panning out.

"Hails, you know how unmanly I feel about leaving my friend alone like this." Kirishima tried to protest.

"You've got your uniforms on still, go. I'll be back on Monday." Hailey retorted, then placed her hand on his shoulder, "You're a good friend, Kiri. And it's pretty manly to skip school to check on your bud, just as much as it is to attend school."

Kirishima gave his friend a sad look, but gave into her request. "Okay.."

"Thanks for checking in on me guys, I really appreciate you." Hailey softly smiled.

But only Kirishima and Sero left, Midoriya remained. He had a conflicted look on his face.

"Midi, I told you that you don't need to waste your time here-"

"I can't do that, Hailey." Midoriya said suddenly, his voice having a serious tone, "I can't watch another one of my friends face things like this alone! Back when Iida's brother got hurt by Stain, I should have been there for Iida, but because I didn't, he got hurt and almost killed. I can't let that happen to you too!" Hailey could hear his voice break with his exclamation.

"Izu.."

"And to make it worst, it was because of me that you could have been hurt or killed! I should have went with you or at least convinced you to stay! But I didn't." Midoriya went on before Hailey stopped him with tight hug.

"I'm sorry that you've been holding onto that, Izuku. I just didn't want you and the others to be pulled into the whole mess of my life, and I still don't want that. But I guess that'll be inevitable with friends like you. I'm sorry, I feel so scared that I'll be the cause of you all getting hurt."

The two then pulled apart, Hailey pinched Midoriya's freckled cheeks.

"I've said it before and I'll say it again: 'you are my literal guardian angel', Izu. I know that I can count on you when I need you." Hailey said with genuine smile to match her soft voice.

"H-Hailey, you're embarrassing me again!" Midoriya blushed.

Hailey shrugged, "Well it's just to and me in here, no one's gonna notice."

"What were you doing before we came?" Midoriya questioned.

Hailey bit her lip in hesitation, but grabbed a ginger ale from the fridge.

"I'll show you." She said and led the green haired male to her bedroom.

When Midoriya entered the bedroom, he noticed that it was a little bit bigger than his own. The walls were a teal, but covered in splatters of different colours. What also covered the wall as were many pieces of artwork, canvas and pencil sketches. When noticing the art table in the corner, Midoriya made the educated guess that Hailey was the artist behind the artworks he saw. He thought that they all looked cool and projected some of the inner thoughts of his classmate.

He then blushed nervously when he remembered that he was in a girl's bedroom, something Midoriya hadn't done. His blush faded when Hailey logged back onto her computer and turned it so that her friend could read the screen.

Midoriya's eyes scanned over the opened tab's information.

"Who's Burick Jivive?" He questioned.

"The man that the detective was questioning me about. Figured that I'd get whatever info about him before the police report comes out publicly." Hailey explained, as she opened cracked open the pop can and took a sip of it.

Midoriya then noticed the opened notebook with many points of information on the visible pages.

"So he owns a quirk-weapon business that have been accused of distributing illegally and with dangerous practice." He read off.

"But not a single charge on him, he caused a lot of people to die because the weapons weren't properly made or followed safety regulations." Hailey finished, "I have a theory about what happened and why it did, but at this point, it would be considered nothing but a conspiracy."

Midoriya nodded his head, giving Hailey a signal that he wanted to hear what she had to say.

"Maybe the whole Stain thing inspired others to fight against corrupt businesses and people. Since he's being associated with the League of Villains, that's where the people who Stain inspired where go to. The man who helped me, I don't want to assume that he could of committed murder, but it could be possible." Hailey continued and then took a sip of her ginger ale at the feeling of her stomach becoming unsettled again.

Midoriya could tell how much the whole experience was getting to Hailey. All she wanted to do was understand why everything happened.

Hailey noticed Midoriya staring at her face, she felt her face heat up and looked away, "I watch a lot of cop shows." She told him.

Realizing that his staring was the cause of Hailey's embarrassment, Midoriya felt his own face heat up again.

"A-ah the-that's cool of you! It's kinda like me and my hero journals!" He squeaked.

Hailey chuckled, "I guess so, guess we're kind of one in the same."

Midoriya nodded, "Y-yeah! And just so you know, when the cops solve the case, you'll feel better, I'm sure of it."

Hailey smiled at him, "Thanks Izu, you made me feel better. If you do end up writing that apology essay, I can help you out with it. It's only fair."
