{My Hero Acadamia} Final Exam Pt 1
"There's only one week left before your final exams. I assume that all of you are studying hard, as well as training. The written is only a portion, just like the practical." Mr Aizawa said as he concluded class. Everyone looked at him intensely until he left the room.
"Fuck my ass!"
Everyone snapped their heads back to Hailey, who was laying her head on the desk and groaning in dismay.
"Hailey!"
"That language is not to be used in a public and sophisticated setting!" Iida cried.
Hailey sat back up, "We did all of the same things to get into this place and now we gotta redo everything! And my talent for procrastinating will be my doom." She grumbled. Despite her placing 9th out of 21 in her midterms, Hailey was stressed out.
"Same! I haven't even taken notes this semester!" Mina laughed at her misery. She had placed 20th.
Hailey laughed as it was revealed that Mineta actually was 10th placed and Kaminari and Mina accuses him of not being one of them.
"Kaminari, Ashido, we've still got time to study! So we can all go to training camp together!" Midoriya exclaimed, trying to lift their spirits.
'The world doesn't deserve you, Midoriya.' Hailey smiled and walked up to the group. "Izu is totally right! Besides, I'm sure that as long as you put in the effort, you'll do great!"
"I too believe that we will make U.A. proud!" Iida added.
"It shouldn't be that hard if you pay attention in class." Todoroki piped in.
"Way to cut us down like that!" Kaminari sobbed.
Then Yaoyorozu offered to help them out, it made sense to accept help from her since she got the top mark on the midterms.
A lot of the class opted to join, making Yaoyorozu very excited and began to ramble off plans and preparations for her classmates to visit her house.
Hailey sweat dropped, even though she wanted to join a study group, she didn't want her classmates to think that she was stupid or slow when it came to learning. Her anxiety began to sink into her, making Hailey's smile fall into a frown.
She then began to leave for lunch, when Midoriya called out to her in the hallway.
"Sup Izu, ready for lunch?" She half smiled.
Midoriya nodded, catching up to her and walking alongside his classmate, "Yeah, but actually Hailey, I was worried about you. Even though you got in the top ten higher marks, you seem less confident in yourself."
Hailey sighed, "No fooling you, huh? Yeah, I shot myself in the foot with putting everything to the last minute. You'd think after getting into one of the most elite schools for heroes, I'd get my act together."
"I could help you study, if you want." Midoriya offered, feeling saddened by his friend's sudden depletion of self assurance.
The expression that Hailey had now quickly changed into a happy gleam. "Are you sure that you'd help me? All I struggle with is numbers and stuff! Memorizing stuff will be easier once I review everything I need."
"I can make sure that you've got everything!" Midoriya added.
Hailey grinned, "Izuku Midoriya, you must be my guardian angel! You are too precious for this world!" She exclaimed wholeheartedly, making Izuku blush and begin to stammer that it was no problem to help her.
"How about today or tomorrow?" Hailey suggested.
Midoriya nodded, "Y-yeah that'll work!"
"Awesome-sauce!" Hailey cheered as they entered the cafeteria.
Once joining their friends at a table and beginning to each their lunches and talk about their final exams, someone had hit Midoriya on the back of his head.
"Sorry, your head's just so big it was hard to miss."
"Oh hey you're from class 1-B." Midoriya pointed out.
"I heard that you ran into the Hero Killer." The student continued, catching Iida, Todoroki and Hailey's attention. "Just like in the Sports Festival, Class 1-A isn't happy unless they're the centre of attention. But you do realize that you're not in the spotlight because people think that you're good heroes. It's just that you keep getting into so much trouble. Here's food for thought-"
"Go be salty somewhere else- uh, oh sorry you're such a boring and dull side character that I forgot your name." Hailey retorted and interrupted the male with an unimpressed expression, "And it's more than what you've accomplished. We get experience which will make us great heroes. But of course you get yours from watching tv, which by the way, I've been on. Didja see me, huh? Helping Endeavour defeat villains and rescuing people was pretty awesome of me, don't cha think? Keep up the good work though and you'll be lucky to be considered one of the best one hundred heroes out there, while we'll be in the top 10. Anyways, that's all the tea you'll get from me. Now go find something more productive or you'll get the attention you want with my fist in your face." She threatened, slapping her fist into her palm, but kept a smile on her face.
"How dare you, so like a class 1-A student to be so full of yourself! I bet you don't care about the rest of us! What kind of trouble will you bring down on us? What kind of villain-" Monoma was silenced off by Kendo hitting him on the head, as he fell down, she grabbed his tray and apologized for his behaviour. As she dragged her classmate away, the group looked back at each other.
"I love her, she's just so great." Hailey chuckled.
"I've never seen you so threatening, Hailey." Tsuyu piped in.
Hailey shrugged her shoulders, "Not the first or last asshole I'll meet in life. Believe it or not, I've exchanged worst words with others at my old school. Sometimes it's just better to give a warning."
"'Boring and dull side character'? I think that you've been hanging out with Bakugou too much!" Uraraka joked.
"Pfft ew, at least I'm not swearing as much as him." Hailey giggled.
"Well just as class ended you did-"
"Shhh I was going through a moment!"
———
After returning to class and telling their classmates about the information that Kendo has given them about the final exam, Kaminari and Mina rejoiced.
Although many were confident, Hailey didn't think that it would be that easy. Maybe that was what Class 1-B would have to deal with, it would make more sense if they were up against a more challenging opponent.
"Like the teachers." Hailey whispered as she continued to ponder.
"It shouldn't matter if it's robots or actual people," Bakugou stated, "why are you morons so excited?"
"Hey! Who are you calling a moron?!" Kaminari pointed at Bakugou.
"Shut up!" Bakugou shouted in an annoyed voice. "Learn how to use your quirks properly!"
Then Bakugou turned his attention to Midoriya, "Hey Deku. I don't know what's going on with your power, but I saw the way you're using it now. I want you to know that it's really pissing me off. I won't have another half assed win like the festival, we'll be getting individual scores in the upcoming finals. New rankings. So we'll all know exactly where we're standing! I'll show you how much better I am!" He then glanced at Todoroki, "And Todoroki, I'll kill you too!" And with that, Bakugou ended his declaration and left the room.
"Such a shame that he was doing so well and now he's back to being the self righteous asshole." Hailey grumbled, glancing at her classmates.
"I haven't seen him this worked up for awhile." Kirishima muttered.
"He must be growing impatient." Tokoyami added.
Hailey sighed, "Whatever's up his ass, it won't do him any good in the long run."
———
"Gah!" Hailey grunted as she began to fall backwards, she caught herself and flipped back to her feet.
She wiped the sweat off of her chin and stared at her opponent.
"Don't think that you got pulled out of class just for some sort of break. You have to keep training." Mr Aizawa stated, readying himself for another attack.
"You didn't have to pull me out of class! I could have just found a classmate to train with!" Hailey exclaimed, motioning to the school that still had students in their final classes of the day.
"Except for the fact that you keep discovering skills to your quirk and aren't practicing them." Mr Aizawa pointed out, hinting back to a few days prior when she used a combination attack with Todoroki.
"I want to practice, but there aren't a lot of people who can help. Mom's busy with her agency, my grandparents are both far away in a hospital and my uncles are literally in another country. As you could tell, my options are limited." She explained.
Aizawa thought for a moment and sighed, "But you've got an idea of who would be a similar match, right?"
Hailey shrugged her shoulders, "Well kind of, mom said something back at the internships, how I could find an in between. At first, I assumed that she was hinting towards my having a third quirk, but now it's make more sense that she meant I'd use my two quirks together. Right?" She tried to describe.
Her teacher nodded, "I see, not a lot of people with two separate quirks would be able to accomplish that, since usually two quirks manifest into one. It has the potential to be a powerful attack."
Hailey nodded, "Yeah, but still if I wanted them to work together, I'd have to be able to emit a high frequency, all that I can do now is mimic a person's voice." She then groaned in dismay.
"I'll talk to Mic, I'm assuming that's who'd you want to work with on that. You still have the option of training with one of us staff members at the school." Mr Aizawa reminded her.
Hailey smiled, "Thanks Mr Aizawa, guess I'll have to win the next challenge then, I'd like to go on patrol with you or something!"
The dark haired male chuckled lightly, "I'll have to remember to use that as a reward, motivated the hell out of the rest of your classmates. I'm surprised that you didn't want to work with All Might like the rest of them."
"He's awesome and all, but I don't see how he'd be able to help me with my quirk." She replied.
Aizawa rolled his eyes, "Alright then, let's finish your sparring another time."
"Thanks for doing this, Mr Aizawa. It's pretty difficult to say no to my mom, right?" Hailey joked, as she wiped the dirt off of her gym uniform.
"Quite the compelling woman, I'll admit."
"If you keep talking like that, I'd assume you have a crush on my mom." Hailey giggled and ran off to go change.
———
"Oh Hailey! Where'd you disappear to?" Midoriya questioned as Hailey approached him at the gate. He had been waiting just a few minutes.
"Sorry about that! Mr Aizawa pulled me aside and helped me with some training." Hailey explained.
Midoriya tilted his head in confusion, "Huh, what kind of training?"
"Hand to hand combat, my mom asked him to since she won't be around for the next two weeks to help me out." Hailey sighed and the two began walking. "Plus he was kinda peeved about me not practicing."
"Oh well then you could stay at my house for dinner if you'd like!" Midoriya offered, feeling bad for his classmate.
Hailey smiled, "You really are some sort of guardian angel, Izu. I'd like to, but I wouldn't like to impose on you!"
The green haired male shook his head, "No! Not at all, I'm sure my mom would love you to stay over!"
"Izu, it's okay, you're already doing me a huge favour!"
Midoriya sighed and let go of the subject, then the two began talking about other things on their way to the Midoriya household.
Upon entering the house, Midoriya greeted his mother and said that he had brought a friend over. His mother shuffled to the door to greet them.
"Oh hello! Sorry that I seem to be surprised, Izuku doesn't usually bring girls over." She giggled.
Midoriya's face flushed a bright red, "M-mom!" He shrieked.
Hailey laughed, "Well I guess I'm honoured to be one of the lucky few." She then reached out her hand towards Mrs Midoriya, "It's so nice to meet you, Mrs Midoriya! I'm Hailey Roselle, I'm in the same class as Izu."
Inko smiled and shook her hand, "It's very nice to meet you too, Hailey."
"We're going to study for our finals in my room." Midoriya told his mother as he slipped off his shoes, Hailey followed suit.
His mother nodded, "Alright, I'll be cleaning up the kitchen. Have fun you two."
Izuku led his classmate to his bedroom, which then he paused before opening the door. He had not realized until too late that his room was completely exposing his genormus admiration towards All Might.
"Aw cute sign!" Hailey giggled at the sign with Izuku's name on it with an All Might theme to it.
"I-I just remembered that I have a-uh laundry to put away! M-maybe you could talk to my mom while I cleaned that up?" Midoriya asked nervously, coming up with an excuse that would buy him time to put away a lot of his All Might merchandise.
Hailey looked at him in confusion, but decided against questioning him and agreed that she would grab herself a drink and snack from the kitchen.
"Uh pardon me, Mrs Midoriya, but would I able to have a glass of water, please?" Hailey asked politely.
Inko turned to her and chuckled, "Of course dear, no need to ask." She then grabbed a glass and filled it with water and handed it to her guest.
"Thanks." Hailey smiled and took a sip of water.
"So you and Izuku are in the same class, right?" Inko questioned.
Hailey nodded and engaged in the small talk. "Yeppers! I sit beside him in class."
"Is he doing alright there? I know he gets good marks, but how about friends? He seems happier than in his middle school days."
Hailey was shocked at Inko's words, "Really?" She replied in disbelief, "Izu is everyone's friend! He at least was one of the first friends I made." She then remembered Bakugou's treatment of said green haired boy, supposing that he had a part to play in that.
"I'm glad to hear that, but I guess I should have assumed when you walked through that door that my son has someone." Inko sounded relieved and at ease.
Hailey felt blessed by the Holy Spirit that was Inko Midoriya, it was no surprise now that with a mother like her, Izuku was such a pure boy.
Speaking of him, Izuku came into the kitchen in a sweat, "O-okay! I got all my laundry put away, we can study now!" He declared.
"Laundry?" Inko mutter in confusion.
Before he was exposed, Midoriya stammered a 'thanks, mom' and pulled Hailey to his bedroom.
Hailey stepped into the room, where only 2 All Might posters hung and a few action figures stood.
"You're room is cute, Izu!" Hailey complimented, "Mine's always covered in art stuff."
Midoriya let out a sigh in relief that his room no longer looked completely dedicated to his favourite hero.
"O-oh thanks, anyways we should get started on reviewing some mathematics." Midoriya said and plopped down on the floor of his room. Hailey sat beside him with her books readied.
After a gruesome hour, Hailey's eye twitched in annoyance with radicals.
"I radicant this anymore, Izu!" She groaned.
Midoriya sweated and reassured her that they could move onto a different subject.
Just then, Midoriya's mother knocked on the door and opened it to peak through at the kids.
"Hailey would you like to stay for dinner?" Inko asked softly.
Hailey sweated, "Oh I wouldn't want to impose on you anymore than I already have, Mrs Midoriya!"
"Oh nonsense! You've been a delight to have! Please stay!" Inko assured her happily.
Hailey smiled, "I guess I could then, thank you."
Inko smiled back and shut the door.
"See? I told you that my mom would love you." Midoriya grinned.
Hailey let out a breath of air, "Yeah you did, do you want a prize or something?" She joked.
"Actually," Midoriya looked away for a moment, "if I could choose my prize, would you be able to tell me some stuff about your quirk so I could write it in my Quirk Book?" He requested.
Hailey was stunned for a moment, but then nodded, "Sure, if that's what you'd like. Be a good to take a break anyways!"
Midoriya's eyes glimmered in enthusiasm as he grabbed his book and a pen. He turned to a page that was barely filled. Hailey looked over his shoulder to get a better view of what was on the paper. It was a rough sketch of her hero costume.
There were arrows pointing to certain parts of her costume, the visor over her eyes had a question mark by eye protection and another arrow to recording device by her earpiece, which he had guessed for future use of her vocal quirk. Her opened fingered gloves had an arrow that mentioned that the thin material and exposed fingers help with transferring wavelengths.
Hailey then read the page beside the sketch where Midoriya had written a more detailed analysis on her and her quirks.
Hailey Roselle
Quirks: Vocal Manipulation and Wavelength Manipulation
-Can use vocal manipulation to make exact replica of another person's voice (if she has heard them talk for a certain amount of time)
-drawbacks include loss of her own voice
-wavelength manipulation give her boosts to strength, speed and jumps.
- after too much, can give Hailey a bloody nose and ears bleed.
- can boost other people
Hailey noticed that in a different colour of ink, Midoriya had underlined, 'CAN MAKE COMBO ATTACKS WITH OTHER QUIRKS'. Midoriya had written the name that she and Kirishima came up with the heat attack and had an arrow that pointed to the words 'Todoroki's flame quirk'.
"Wow, you might know me better than I know myself." Hailey giggled.
Midoriya felt his cheeks heat up once more, "A-ah, sorry if that's really weird!"
Hailey patted his soft green locks, "Nah no worries, at least you'll be prepared if you ever need to take me down! Besides, it's super useful, just like when you first fought Bakugou! You knew all his moves!" She reassured him.
"Thanks Hailey, do I have everything though?" Midoriya questioned.
"Well since you're getting into my wavelength combinations, I think that part is just trial and error. I wanna see if Kaminari's quirk is compatible next, maybe I'll call it, 'Shock Wave'." Hailey explained.
Midoriya nodded and began to write in the notebook.
"When doing those attacks, could Todoroki be holding your wrist to emit the same attack?" He questioned.
"If I wanted to have a bad degree of burn on my wrist, maybe."
"How about using your two quirks together?"
"I was just talking to Mr Aizawa about that, probably possible, but maybe after training with Present Mic, I'll have it figured out."
Midoriya continued to scribble more facts in his notebook before his mother returned to tell the two that dinner was ready.
As they enjoyed their meal, the three began some friendly small talk, they shared aligns with stories and embarrassing Midoriya.
"And he was so cute running around in his All Might onesie! I remember when he was coming up with his super hero name! All Might Jr, Mighty Boy, oh there was Mighty Man and Super All Might! He was such a treasure!" His mother recalled happily.
Hailey gushed at the cuteness of Midoriya when he was younger, "Even just heading that sounds just so adorable! Then again, even in high school it's not hard to believe that he would still do that."
"You guys are so embarrassing!" Midoriya squeaked, hiding his flushed cheeks.
"Sorry Izu, it's hard to resist when I find out that you were even more precious than you are now." Hailey grinned.
"Aw I've been doting on Izuku the whole time you've been here, tell me a bit about yourself Hailey." Inko said, taking another bite of her rice.
"Oh uh, I don't really know where to begin, what would you like to know?" Hailey questioned.
"What do your parents do for a living?"
"Oh my mom runs her own agency, Hondashu! She makes a lot of costume for pro heroes and recruits other upcoming pros." Hailey explained happily.
"What about your father?" Inko asked.
Hailey scoffed at the mention of her father, "No idea, probably living another life by now."
The Midoriya's felt Hailey's answer was in a bitter tone and decided against further discussing the topic.
"Oh Izuku told me that you aren't from here, where did you used to go to school?" Inko continued.
Hailey's expression lightened, "I'm from this rural farming community, Ts'usa! And I went to school at Marlain. It's quite different than U.A. for sure."
"Oh really what did you do there?"
"Actually I was the Student Council President there, played softball, golf, figure skated and basketball and in a small community like that, everyone knew everyone. I was kinda sad to leave, but now I'm happy at where I am today!"
Midoriya smiled at his classmate, he almost wondered what she was like in her middle school days. Maybe if he had the opportunity to visit her house, he would get the embarrassing stories of when Hailey was a small child.
The later hours started to roll in and Hailey suggested that it would be best for her to go home.
"Do you still live by Todoroki's house, Hailey?" Midoriya asked as Hailey let out a yawn.
She nodded, "Yep."
Inko was concerned with a young lady like Hailey walking on the streets alone at the current hour.
"How far away is that?" She inquired.
"On the other side of the city, I'll just take the train and walk from there." Hailey replied, trying to sound nonchalant, despite her anxiety telling her that if she had a death wish that her current idea was terrible!
"Oh my, I don't feel safe with you walking by yourself at this hour." Inko confessed, trying to coax her to at least stay the night or something.
"I could walk you there!" Midoriya offered.
"No no, then you'll be walking home alone too! I'll be fine, maybe I'll text Sho or Mom and see if she could send someone to pick me up from the station?" Hailey suggested, not wanting to endanger her friend and wanting to reassure his mother that she would be fine.
"Are you sure that you can't stay the night? I'm sure I could find some old pajamas of mine that you could borrow!" Inko attempted to convince her.
"Mrs Midoriya, thank you for your hospitality and Izu, thank you for helping me study." Hailey smiled sincerely, "Don't worry about me, okay? I'll make sure to get home safe, and if I run into trouble, I have places to go."
Inko accepted the defeat, "Alright, just text Izuku the moment that you get home, okay? I just want you to stay safe!"
"I know that I've been saying this all day, you guys are literally my guardian angels." Hailey chuckled, "I promise I will, thank you again!" And with that, Hailey left the Midoriya apartment and began texting her mom about sending a coworker to pick her up at the train station.
Her mother responded and said that she would get her assistant to do so.
Hailey had a sigh of relief, she used her quirk discretely to increase her speed and got to the train station in minimal time. All that she had to do was wait 5 minutes for the train to arrive.
That was the part that Hailey would hate, the waiting, and then she would have to wait while on the train and then find her mother's assistant to take her home.
Hailey then went on her phone to find an article to read about. She was almost sick of hearing about the Hero Killer, but at the same time, still intrigued by the story itself.
When she took a seat on the train, she continued reading. The train seemed almost vacant, except for what appeared to be an older and drunk man and another, his back turned from her and his hands stuffed into his jacket pockets.
Hailey immediately began to imagine all the worst case scenarios that could occur at any moment. At least it would all be caught on tape, as she noticed the security cameras.
The drunken gentleman took notice of Hailey and began to yell at her for not paying attention to him.
Hailey scooted away from his direction, but he stood up and loomed over her small frame.
"Excuse me sir, would you kindly step back? You are invading my personal space bubble." Hailey told him sternly, in an attempt to threaten and scare him away.
"Yoooou listen here lil lady. I just had a bad night and if you keep pissing me off, you are gonna learn your place. Ya lady." The older man slurred.
"If That were the case, you'd realize that ladies don't start fights, but they can end them. So please back away." Hailey tried once more, adding some more sass to her words.
"You-" before the older man could respond, he tried to recoil away from his right. Where it was discovered to have the other man had a tight grip on his forearm.
"The young lady has told you to back off, you better do that before I turn you into ash." He glared with piercing blue eyes.
The drunk man heeded the 'advice' and crawled into the far corner.
Hailey looked up at the man who had just saved her, she noticed the purpled scarred skin and staples.
"Thank you sir." Hailey said gratefully.
"It's no big deal, I see that you're a follower of the Hero Killer." The slender man pointed out.
Hailey shook her head, "Although Stain had a ideology that was noble, it's not the ideal way to take care of the flawed hero system."
"And how would you propose one to fix it?" He questioned.
"If it were possible, take away their powers. You can't have successful heroes in the type of industry, if they can't do superhuman things to save lives. Also the fact that it's an industry has its problems." Hailey explained.
"Interesting, you'd almost be perfect for this group that I just got recruited in." The man chuckled.
"No offence, but I've made it a hard rule to not join groups introduced by someone whose name I don't even know."
"You'll find out in the near future. Until then, have a good night." The stranger said as the train came to a stop that his. The stranger grabbed the drunk man and took him off the train with him. Leaving Hailey all alone and with her thoughts.
———
Hailey returned home safe and just as promised, texted Midoriya that she returned home safe and sound.
But although she was safe in her bed, the recent encounter she had made Hailey's mind run wild with accusations and predicted answers of the stranger who saved her.
She turned to lay on her side and cuddled her pillow, "Fuck, I can't be thinking about this now..."
