{MHA} Who Are You?

The all too familiar alarm blared in Hailey's dorm room, although waking her up to turn it off, Hailey returned to just laying in her bed.

'What's the point in getting up?' Hailey thought, staring up at her galaxy painted ceiling. 'What day even is it? Do I even have to go to school?'

'It feels like these last few days are blurring into one terrible day. The bad stuff keeps on happening, that I don't know if I'll ever see the end of it.' She rubbed her eyes in frustration.

'I'm not getting up.' She decided and rested her arm over her eyes, hoping the cover from the sunlight would make it easier to fall asleep.

Unfortunately for her plans, there was a knock at her door.

"Hey Hails, are you up? We're gonna be late for classes." Mina's voice was heard from the other side of the door.

Hailey groaned in annoyance. 'Fuck, I don't have enough time to shower or anything.'

Mina knocked again, "Are you awake? Feeling sick or something? Can I come in?"

Not seeing any other option, Hailey sighed, "Yeah, come in."

Hailey heard the door swing open and she ran her fingers through her hair.

"Hey, are you okay?" Mina questioned, hurrying over to Hailey's bedside.

"I..I..I don't know." Hailey breathed, looking at her pink friend. "I don't feel like doing anything, maybe just laying here until I die."

Mina frowned at Hailey's response, but then offered a reassuring smile, "That's a mood, but today's the last day of the week. Then we can go to that festival on the weekend with the class, or just us girls."

Hailey gave her friend a look as she considered, but then rolled to her side away her friend.

"I don't know, Mina."

Mina let out a sigh as she tried to figure out what to do next.

"Well, I know that you'll feel worst if you don't at least attend the important stuff today and fall behind." Mina pointed out.

There was no denying that her pink coloured classmate did make a valid point, with a bit of procrastination, Hailey did get up from her bed.

"I don't think I have enough time to shower." Hailey pouted, hoping that it was a valid enough excuse.

"Here, I'll grab you some dry shampoo." Mina suggested, darting to her dorm next door.

Hailey exhaled and realized that there was no point in fighting Mina's attempts at getting her up. So, she got dressed in her uniform and allowed Mina to help her with her hair.

In homeroom, Mr Aizawa had already begun calling attendance.

"Does anyone know where Asido and Roselle are?" He inquired his students.

"The last we saw Mina was when she went to make sure Hailey was awake, but that's when we were all leaving." Tsuyu answered.

"And we're here!" Mina exclaimed in triumph, rivalling the same energy when she decided her hero name. She was holding onto Hailey's wrist

Mr Aizawa scribbled something on a clipboard that he held, "You two barely scraped by, go take your seats." He instructed them.

Mina led Hailey into the classroom, then playfully pushed her towards her seat before sitting in her own.

"I was hoping to hear about some girl on girl action." Mineta whispered to Midoriya, causing the green haired student to be taken aback but then shot the pervy grape a disgusted look.

"Now that everyone is here, we can get started on our lesson." Mr Aizawa said sternly, catching his students' attention.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lunchtime finally came around and the students dispersed to the cafeteria, all except Hailey.

She stayed in the classroom to finish up some notes, as well to talk to Mr Aizawa about something having to do with the schedule of their classes.

Meanwhile, her classmates sat close to another in the cafeteria, where Mina was telling them about her current worries.

"I don't know you guys, she just seems like she's getting depressed. I had to drag her out of bed, because who knows if she's gonna get worst. I'm worried."

"I've noticed her behaviour as well, but considering the kind of week she's had, it's no surprise that she's unmotivated." Shouto added. "I saw her practically shut down yesterday."

"What do you think we should do?" Midoriya questioned, feeling concerned but ready to help.

"I suggest that we offer her more support until she is feeling any better." Iida offered, with some of his hand gestures.

"Yeah, we'll just make sure that she knows that we're there for her!" Kirishima exclaimed, feeling pumped up.

"Are we pumped up for hero training or something?" Hailey piped up, walking towards her classmates.

"Y-yeah, we are!" Midoriya answered.

"Neat." She awkwardly replied.

"Hey, where's your food? You gotta be hungry after missing breakfast." Mina quickly pointed out and grabbed onto Hailey's wrists, "Here, let's go get you some food!"

"It's fine, I'm not really hungry anyways." Hailey attempted to turn down.

"C'mon, you'll need some energy for hero training!" Kirishima added, putting his arm around Hailey's shoulders.

"Guys, really." Hailey tried again.

"I can get you some soba, it's really good here." Shouto suggested, standing up from his seat.

Feeling a bit underwhelmed over her classmate's enthusiasm about lunch, Hailey awkwardly made an excuse.

"Sounds great, but I'm just gonna run to the bathroom real quick." She gestured towards the hallway, "I'll be right back."

She backed away, before turning and leaving the cafeteria.

"Do you think we came off a bit strong with that?" Kirishima asked, as he and the others watched her leave.

"Well, you idiots chasing her away wasn't sign enough?" Bakugou remarked.

"I did not miss you one bit." Mina glared at the blonde.

"So, are we not getting more soba?" Shouto questioned.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hailey scurried down the hallways and found herself up on the rooftop of the school.

She let out a deep sigh, finally finding a spot for some breathing room.

"Do you mind?"

Hailey looked up in surprise to see Shinsou sitting against the railing of the roof.

"Ah-sorry about that! I just needed some space from my classmates- I'll go find somewhere else to go." She sputtered and turn to leave.

"Well lucky for you, this is a good spot to avoid classmates, if you wanna sit for a bit." Shinsou called.

Hailey felt a bit of relief and sat beside the indigo haired student. "Thanks, Shinsou. Are you avoiding your classmates too?" She asked.

"You could say that, I was more of avoiding people in general, but-" Shinsou gave her a knowing look, causing her to laugh.

"Sorry, again." She smiled sheepishly. "Are you a local celebrity in your class? You singlehanded carried your class pretty far in the sports festival."

"You could say that." Shinsou answered and looked up at the clouds. "Can I let you in on a secret?"

Hailey nodded, "Yeah, sure, if you wanna tell me."

"Alright, only because it could affect you or something." Shinsou explained, scratching the back of his head. "I've been..training to try and get into the hero department."

Hailey's eyes lit up happily. "Oh hey, that's great! That's why it looks like you've bulked up!" Hailey playfully nudged him, "But I think that you'll be a great hero. Maybe if the stars align, we could come up with a combo attack? Maybe a 'brainwave'?"

Shinsou gave the redhead an amused look, "You seem more excited than I am."

"Duh, new face to the department. You could also end up in our class- oh, maybe finally you could replace Mineta." Hailey smirked.

Shinsou chuckled, "That grapes haired pervert? I'm surprised he's even in Class 1-A."

"Same, but y'know, not in charge of how that goes." Hailey sighed.

"Just have to play the system, I guess." Shinsou shrugged.

"Can I ask why you wanted to be a hero?" Hailey inquired.

Shinsou looked back to the sky and answered, "Well, back at the sports festival I did proclaim that I was going to be a hero, despite the disadvantage of a quirk I have. That Midoriya kid in your class helped me realize how hard I was going to have to work."

Hailey smiled, "Izu is pretty good at inspiring and motivating people, that might actually be his second quirk." She giggled. "But hey, can I ask you something about your quirk?"

"Depends." Shinsou said, taking a bite of his lunch.

"Can you command someone to feel something? Like if you brainwashed me to get my life together, I'd be the happiest person alive? Or is it just actions?" Hailey questioned.

"Just actions, if it requires talking or any extra brain power on that person, they won't do it." Shinsou replied, gulping down his food.

"Neat." Hailey nodded.

"Is that why you're talking to me?" Shinsou inquired.

"Nah, just open to have more friends." Hailey answered, "If you don't wanna be friends though, that's totally fine."

"I'll..consider your offer." Shinsou commented.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hailey rushed to the girl's changing room to change into her hero costume, and was met with Mina's worried antics.

"Girl, where have you been?!" She shrieked.

"Calm down, Mina." Hailey assured, "I just got caught up when talking to Shinsou."

"That brainwashing guy from the sports festival?" Uraraka asked.

Hagakure gasped, "Did he make you do something?!"

"No, we literally just talked." Hailey reinstated, before making her way to an open spot to change. "So what do we think this training ses is gonna be?" Hailey changed the topic, sounding a bit more excited about it.

The girls shared a look before responding to Hailey's question, to match her own enthusiasm.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Alright, so today we will be doing a sort of call back to the first day you've arrived. This time, we will be focusing on tactics and teamwork. We'll draw names for villain teams and hero teams, who will face off as the heroes attempt to protect this prototype microchip." Mr Aizawa explained, pointing to the security screen of a lab.

"What's so important about a chip?" Kaminari questioned, not seeing any importance of a little piece of technology.

"Microchips are responsible for running almost all types of technology, Kaminari." Yaoyorozu informed her classmate.

"Have you not seen any superhero cartoon or comic? Microchips can make the villains super powerful with machines! The machines, Kami! The machines!" Hailey exclaimed, grabbing onto Kaminari's shoulders.

"Like I was saying, the villains will try and retrieve the microchip from the lab. The exercise will be over when one of the villains escapes the complex with the microchip or the hero team is able to capture and restrain the villain team." Their teacher elaborated, then pressed a button on the remote. "Here are the teams."

The screen then had the pictures of the students grouped together, pairs either on the left, hero side, or the right, villain side.

Hailey frowned at the sight of her name under the villain side, the title she had been trying rid herself of.

'Maybe if I fail at being a villain..no that wouldn't be fair to Hagakure.' Hailey pondered, but shook her head. 'And I don't want special treatment..'

"Alright, looks like Midoriya and Uraraka are the hero team and Roselle and Hagakure are the villain team, you guys are up." Mr Aizawa instructed, "The rest of you will stay in here and observe."

"Yessir."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hailey and Hagakure were in the floor below the lab that they were supposed to infiltrate.

"Do you have a plan?" Hagakure inquired, her voice low to avoid detection.

"The expected plan would be for me to distract Izu and Ura while you sneak in and grab the microchip. Yeah, that'd be too predictable.." Hailey pondered aloud.

'Yeah, Izu would be able to see that as a default plan.. maybe this will be a good time to bring in the diversion.'

"Okay, I've got a plan, or rather a plan within a plan." Hailey smirked.

"So like, a plan A and plan B?" Hagakure questioned, sweating.

"Kinda, here, let me tell ya."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hailey boosted herself into the air and grabbed onto a beam that was close to the ceiling, and climbed to the next one. She felt confident that she was out of sight and would be able to sneak around.

Maneuvering overhead, Hailey was able to find the hallway that lead to the lab and there, was able to spot Uraraka and Midoriya, who seemed to be debating their game plan was.

"Deku, they have to be on the way!" Uraraka exclaimed.

"I know, but we have to be ready for anything." Midoriya replied, looking around the halls for the other team, then gasped at the sight of Hagakure's gloves holding onto the wall, meaning that she was peering over.

"There's Hagakure!" Midoriya pointed out.

"I've got her!" Uraraka declared, darting over and following Hagakure.

Midoriya rushed over to the end of the hall, only to stop as he noticed the beams near the roof. Hailey jumped down and as Midoriya realized what the beams could provide, he quickly turned around, only to be met with a paralysis wave making contact with his body.

"I was hoping that you'd follow our diversion." Hailey remarked, entering the lab and grabbing the microchip. She then winked at the green haired boy. "But you've gotten a lot smarter."

"I had a hunch that having Hagakure grab the microchip and having you as a diversion was too predictable." Midoriya replied, trying to think a way out of the paralysis. Midoriya had to admit that he was impressed that Hailey figured out that she emit a wavelength with just stepping now.

"Of course, now I'll leave with this-" Hailey announced, but was cut off by Uraraka rushing in.

"I lost Hagakure, did-" She panted and noticed Hailey holding the microchip.

"Oh, hey, Ura." Hailey said awkwardly.

Uraraka got into a readied battle pose, "I'm not gonna let you escape with that."

"If there was a convenient window back there, I'd just jump out of that, but I guess I'll have to settle." Hailey shrugged, placing the microchip under the fabric of her custom gloves, before running into a handspring and boosting herself onto the beams. Then continued to swing and jump from beam to beam.

"Arg, I can't catch her! There's not enough rubble to get that high." Uraraka cursed.

Midoriya shook his legs, feeling freedom from the quirk attack. "We can catch her on foot, c'mon!" He exclaimed and dashed to follow her.

Hailey jumped down and ran to the staircase, where she sent an echo wavelength to feel Hagakure's presence.

"Hey, good plan." Hagakure remarked, putting her gloves back on her hands.

"Thanks, not a lot of time to talk, here, take this and I'll lead them the wrong way." Hailey replied, talking as fast as she slipped the chip into Hagakure's hands and then continuing to run down the hall.

"She's going the wrong way." Hailey heard Uraraka say to Midoriya.

"Doesn't matter, she has the microchip." Midoriya replied, "Go find Hagakure, we don't win if we don't capture them both."

With that, Midoriya used his quirk to push himself into the air to catch up with Hailey, who realized he was close to pinning her down, so she boosted herself forward. She summersaulted away from Midoriya's punch, which left some rubble in the concreted floor.

"Super glad that I saw that coming." Hailey remarked, jumping to her feet.

Midoriya tried to catch Hailey off guard by throwing a 5% charged kick, but Hailey saw that coming as well.

'Of course, he's been trying to use his legs more, luckily, Yura's angry kicking is what I'm used to.' Hailey thought to herself confidently, as she caught his leg and with the same momentum, threw Midoriya into the wall.

"Sorry, are you good?" Hailey questioned, cringing as she saw the dent in the wall and realizing that she could have hurt her friend.

"Alright, looks like Hagakure escaped with the microchip, the villain team wins." Mr Aizawa announced through the speakers.

"Oh yeah! Way to go Hagakure." Hailey grinned in triumph, then turned to Midoriya, who was sat on the ground, wincing in pain. "Ah, sorry! Seriously, are you okay?" She asked, reaching her hand out for him to take it.

Midoriya smiled back, "Yeah I'm fine." He grabbed onto her hand. "You know you make a good villain." He complimented, but let out a noise of surprise when he fell back on his butt.

When he looked up, his eyes widened at the expression that Hailey had on her face.

Conflicted and hurt.

Hailey bit her lip and turned to rush towards the exit, ignoring Midoriya's plea for her to stop and he didn't mean what he said.

She rejoined her classmates, but refused to interact with anyone, pushing away their efforts.

'Of course, the one opinion that really knocks me down. First dad, but that one didn't hurt as much, then my teachers, Yura didn't see me becoming a hero, mom and now my friends..why did I think this would be different.' Hailey thought bitterly in her head, not paying attention to the criticism that their teacher was offering the first group.

"Hails." Kirishima tried to call her, but she turned and left the room, no longer feeling that it was her place to stay.

There was no relief that she made it through half of her day, there wasn't much feeling other than feeling lost.

It was familiar, something she finally knew.
