In the Mirkwood palace library, sitting at a table lit with a single candle Jackie Frost was reading one of the old books that told the story of the Seoni wolf pack and was just nearing the ending of it's tale when a voice broke her from her thoughts,
"I thought we made it clear for all young Elflings to stay on curfew". She jumped and turned to see the Queen herself. Aniu softly smiled at the young savior and Jackie chuckled softly and said.
"Guess I was too invested in learning about each of the Wolf packs I must've not noticed the time, I promise Aniu, I'll go to bed just as soon as I read this last paragraph to this pack's story".
"And what pack are you reading about now my dear?" The Elvish Queen walked up towards her old mistress and looked at the hard cover title 'THE TALE OF THE SEONI WOLF PACK' "ahh, the Seoni Wolf Pack of Romania, a troubled pack they are".
"You don't have to tell me twice Aniu, just reading it makes me think this pack is really screwed up".
"Well, it is the youngest of all the Wolf packs in the world. Founded in 1442 during the human reign of Vlad the Impaler, then when the struggles happened, I myself took action and forced them to unite as one pack to hopefully stop the bloodshed from spilling further, because all they were doing to each other was destroying their pack".
"Yeah, I read on it, and no offense Aniu, but I bet they were probably scared when you turned on the Dark you to get them to unite as one pack". Aniu chuckled softly and said.
"Indeed they were," her facial expression then grew solemn with sadness as she continued, "now with Frollo on the throne, I fear the Seoni pack is forever doomed".
"Why? From what I've read it seems like the exiled Prince Quinn is doing everything he can to help his pack, and Frollo isn't immortal so he's bound to die eventually".
"While that maybe true Jackie, but as time goes on for however long he has left to live, the damage will get worse and worse, soon when Quinn does become Alpha, he may not be able to return the pack to its former glory just like his father did once before, and I also fear that Thranduil won't help in the slightest".
Aniu walked away from the library. Jackie picked up the lantern and followed Aniu as she asked.
"Is it because of Frollo? Or just the pack itself?"
"The pack itself has always begged for help from any wolf pack it could get when it came to crisis, it was like handling an immature adult who wouldn't leave his parents' home. And now because of what we've been through, my love won't risk anymore war between us and another pack, he wants to think of our kingdom's safety first, especially now since we still have the spiders still among our forests".
"Yeah, but I've heard that Frollo has desperately tried to ask for help from Thranduil, do you think Frollo would really ask for war if we do not help?"
"Only time will tell Jackie, for now it's time for you to be in bed and rest for another day". It was at that moment that Jackie and Aniu had arrived at Jackie's bedroom. Jackie yawned and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. Aniu took the lantern from Jackie and gestured Jackie inside and followed behind her.
When the young savior was tucked snug in her bed, the Elf Queen gently kissed her forehead and bade her a goodnight as did the savior to her Queen, then as Aniu left, Jackie fell asleep.
A few days went by and the Elves of Mirkwood were still trying to clear their forests from the foul creatures that still somehow lingered even after 20 years of reclaiming their homeland.
Currently now Thranduil was sitting on his throne with another message sent from Frollo asking to send one of his wolves to help keep the peace with his pack. Thranduil slammed the note down and sighed heavily as he buried his face into his hand.
"My King?" Thranduil looked up to see his Queen walking along the steps leading to his throne.
"I almost don't know what to do melda, the Seoni Wolf pack is like an hour born stag, stumbling everywhere he goes and won't stop pestering until it finally learns to walk. I have my own kingdom to think about, I won't allow another pack especially a pack like that bring us down, nor will I risk war if I don't send help".
"Do you really think Frollo would rage war upon us if we didn't send help to his pack?" asked Aniu.
"Truthfully I don't know. I honestly don't know what to do".
"You always think of what's best for your people melda, but you must also think about your other children too, the packs look up to you for guidance and wisdom. Would you really deny them that right because of it's past struggles? Maybe send one of our best warriors who is also good with peace making".
"Do you really think I should?"
"I believe by sending one of our peace makers it will ease Frollo's constant harassment towards other packs begging for help, that and it'll put your mind at ease knowing we sent a peace maker as well as a warrior". Aniu wrapped her arms around her king and gently kissed him. Thranduil wrapped his arms around his queen as he deepened the kiss.
It was then a wolf whistle soon broke their kiss.
When the two Alphas separated, they saw Jackie smirking along with Tauriel, Elros, Feren, Lethuin, and the rest of the Elvish guard.
The King and Queen grinned softly and Thranduil said,
"Do I even have to ask on who did that wolf whistle?" His eyes targeted Jackie as she smirked mischievously.
"Sorry but we really didn't want to step in on your moment quite yet". The Alphas smirked softly at the youngest pup of their pack when Tauriel soon stated.
"But in other matters we bring word from our scouting through the forests".
"What's the update?" asked Thranduil in a serious tone.
"We've cleared the forests as ordered my lord, but more spiders keep coming up from the South, we believe their spawning somewhere there, we would ask your permission to head down and kill them at their source to finally rid of this infestation of Spiders once and for all" stated Feren.
"Beyond the South reaches of our borders lies a vile place that Pitch Black claimed as his own nearly 2000 years ago, I won't risk any of you going near that place keep our lands clear of those foul creatures that is your task alone!"
"But my Lord, if we are to put an end to the Spiders once and for all then we must cut the head off the snake, in this case cut the webbing of the spider's head nest". Jackie proclaimed.
"I have made my decision!" Thranduil proclaimed.
His voice echoed through the halls of the kingdom and Jackie stood still as a statue that Thranduil had actually raised his voice at her. But she knew that now that she was apart of his pack, she would have to follow his orders unless she really wanted to risk banishment or even worse.
Death.
"Now you all go and rest, I will be calling a meeting at sundown to discuss another matter that is at hand". The scouts bowed to their king before leaving the throne room. Jackie alone still kept her eyes on Thranduil with a mixture of anger and disappointment in her eyes before Tauriel snapped her out of her gaze and the two girls walked away with Tauriel having an arm wrapped around Jackie's shoulders.
"She's gonna learn to out argue me one of these days". Thranduil said.
"She does indeed have a stubborn spirit, wild and free like the wind and snow itself" said Aniu as she looked down solemnly remembering someone else who was just like their little savior in spirit and almost in looks alike. Someone very dear but painful to even say her name.
By sundown, the scouts were all rested up and all met with their King and Queen in the council room located at the bottom level from the throne room.
"For centuries we've been the top reigning pack that began the History of Wolves and dog-kind itself. We keep the peace between our immortal and mortal brethren alike by only intervening when see fit, but not controlling them to the point where they can't stand for themselves. Now one pack has always had this struggle and now their Alpha has come to me now asking for help within his pack". Thranduil started off in his meeting. "It has now come to my attention to stop his constant cries for help towards the other packs, to send one of my own to see what he wants and finally put an end to what it is that he so desires".
The Elves softly talked amongst themselves softly knowing which wolf pack it was that so desperately needed the help since it's birth.
The Seoni Wolf pack.
"I have decided to choose not only one who is the best warrior of our kingdom, but a peace keeper as well, Feren will you please step forward."
It was then Feren stepped forward before the King and Thranduil continued,
"Feren, you will leave at first light tomorrow to travel to the Seoni Wolf pack to help keep the peace within the pack. In order to not risk war, you are to follow orders of the Alpha Frollo is that understood?"
"It will be my honor my Lord".
"It will be your downfall!" Exclaimed a voice. Stepping out before beside Feren was Jackie Frost. "With all due respect Thranduil, while Feren is the peace keeper for our pack he must also have some knowledge of the Seoni Wolf pack itself, one of which sadly he does not". The Elves all exclaimed in ooh's at Jackie's statement. Feren glared at Jackie insulting him but he secretly knew deep down he didn't.
"And who exactly would you send Jackie?" Aniu asked before her husband could answer.
"Send me".
It was then all the Elves went silent.
"Absolutely not, that is out of the Question!" Thranduil exclaimed.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't be the one to go my King?"
"Jackie Frost while it is true you maybe over 400 years old, as an Elf of my pack you are not yet even 20. Simply an Elfling at this stage. You are far too young to take this mission and I won't risk you getting hurt".
"So it was okay for me to get hurt on my mission to save my sister Emma? It was okay for me to take the hit so Carolynn couldn't be marked with this," she lifted her shirt and showed the black mark of Pitch Black still on her right side just like it has always been. "Thranduil I have fought in many wars in my time, some of which were not physical like the wars you fight. I have seen things that others haven't faced yet in their time, I have struggled yet I still stand, and I was given the prophecy that no other person could ever take away from me. The Savior of Mirkwood. Without me leading the young elves back here, none of you older elves would be here today if not for me! Let me go to the Seoni wolf pack, I know of its history and I grant you that I will not risk war between our packs!" Again the Elves remained silent and only looked at each other in short glances.
That was until a clap was heard.
Jackie turned to see Tauriel was the one that was clapping. Soon other elves followed until soon all the elves even began cheering and even Feren bowed to his savior and stepped back into the crowd of Elves as they cheered for their savior. Thranduil and Aniu looked at Jackie and while Aniu smiled and congratulated her on a well performed speech, Thranduil still remained skeptically about sending Jackie on an assignment like this.
Especially when it involved a very messed up pack.
He raised his hand and on command the Elves were silenced.
"It would appear the decision has been made. Jacklyn Elizabeth Frost, you are to leave at first light tomorrow to the Seoni Wolf Pack". The cheers once again commenced as all the Elves congratulated her and soon all the Elves began to leave the council room one by one up the narrow stairway that would only allow one elf at a time leaving the Alphas alone.
"It would seem she's finally out-argued you. And it is time for her to experience seeing the other packs, she's bound to go on other assignments than just patrolling the forests, now's as good a time as any". Aniu walked down from her throne when Thranduil stated.
"You wanted her to take this assignment, didn't you?" Aniu stopped and remained silent with her back still turned on her husband.
"I can neither confirm nor deny that fact, but my darling," she turned gracefully towards him as she continued, "you baby her far too much. She is right, she has experienced things that no other girl her age has. Along with times of happiness and wisdom that she's gained over her 400 years of living, she has also experienced pain, and suffering. Fear and regret. She's always had to live with the fact that Pitch Black still marks her even now, she bares that mark everyday and some of our children ridicule her behind her back and ours, yet she endures that pain every single day. You can't protect her from the horrors of what we go through forever, because she's already been through it already to know what true fear is". Aniu then turned back around and walked out of the council room with her white dress treading along until it disappeared up the stairs.
Thranduil sighed and began to think about both Jackie's and his queen's word and began to think that they were both right.
He couldn't protect Jackie forever, he couldn't even protect her back then when she was marked by the Dark Witch. He now sees the mark of her struggles every day because of that, for whatever reason she still accepts the Nightmare King as a part of her but she has not once turned against this pack, but tried to keep it moving forward towards a new light at the end of the tunnel.
Just like she did.
Early the next morning, the Elves all gathered outside of Mirkwood all softly talking amongst themselves as their Queen walked outside the palace to stand by her King as they would bid goodbye to Jackie as she would ride off towards Seoni today. As Thranduil stood calmly in a stoic manner, on the inside his stomach was churning violently with nerves, he felt his hand being taken and kissed softly to see his Queen now standing beside him.
"There she is" stated Elros and soon coming out of the gates of Mirkwood was Jackie Frost.
She wore her proud Mirkwood riding uniform and cloak to help disguise herself as to not drag too much attention when she got there. Her bow draped behind her shoulder and her arrows neatly in her quiver behind her back as well. Her daggers given by Tauriel latches onto their sayas at either hip and a sword at her left.
She was ready for departure.
As she walked across the bridge and towards the edge of the forest, the elves wished her luck and told her make them show who's the true Alpha dog of that pack and complimenting her on how ready she was to fight a war. Aniu smiled as she walked up towards her savior and the two of them hugged each other softly.
"You just stay safe dear one". Aniu told Jackie. She nodded to her Queen that's when she turned to Thranduil to see him solemnly looking down.
"Thranduil," he looked up as Jackie continued, "you know I can handle this mission on my own, promise you won't worry about me too much". Thranduil looked towards his Queen and Aniu gave him a reassuring look to allow her to go.
"Alright, I promise". Jackie smiled then raced up towards her King and embraced him and her king embraced her as well. Thranduil and Jackie embraced for a bit longer until she finally separated and he gently placed a kiss on her forehead for good luck when she heard a grunt call out for her.
She turned to see the stable handlers bring forth her new fully grown battle reindeer Sven.
She once had a horse like every other elf but a few years ago in battle with orcs to defend their homeland, her mare Rain was shot down as she charged in on the army head one and was killed slowly due to the poison tipped with the three arrows that took her down on her chest and head.
Jackie was depressed for months until one day Thranduil's battle elk had been announced that he had a baby and the mother had been shot by hunters one winter's day. Thranduil took his battle elk's son in and helped take care of the young reindeer calf and introduced him to Jackie.
When she first met the little calf, Jackie's heart mended and she and the reindeer imprinted on each other and from then on they both had a connection that was stronger than blood itself.
She and Sven shared a powerful bond and would always be there for one another always.
Jackie smiled and raced up towards him thanking the stable handlers.
"You ready for a trip Sven?" Sven grunted and nodded enthusiastically and Jackie smiled as she mounted her reindeer. She turned towards her King and Queen and as the two of them now stood together side by side, Thranduil softly nodded in acceptance to allow Jackie to leave now.
Jackie then urged Sven on and soon he took off withblazing speed as Thranduil watched with a heavy heart as his youngest pup andher reindeer leave the borders of their homeland heading towards Seoni.
