The abandoned house in Po Town wasn't perfect, but it was home. Although, it was quite boring from time to time. I lived alone with my Banette. We originally lived in Hoenn, but we decided to get a change in scenery. Thinking Alola was the best option, we moved here right away. On one very stormy day, we had to walk through Po Town to get to the next route, but, of course, it was raining. To avoid getting drenched, my Pokémon and I ran into the soggy, beaten down house. The rain never stopped, and we never left.
The abandoned house in Po Town wasn't perfect. But it certainly got a lot more interesting when he showed up.
It was a rainy day, like always, when two strangers around my age walked in. That was a first, no one had ever even visited the house after Banette and I started living here. The male with white hair took a few steps forward, really inspecting the house. "This is it Plums, it's perfect. No way a ghost is scarin' me out of this beauty." A ghost?! I've been living with a ghost?! "There isn't a ghost here. It's just a stupid story to scare tourists." The female chuckled, walking up the stairs to one of the rooms. "Yeah, yeah, whateva." I managed to hide, making sure they couldn't see me, and kick me out of my only home. "Guz check this out!" The one who I assumed is named "Guz" ran up the stairs and into the same room as "Plums"? I think that was her name. "Banette what do we do?! There are two strangers in this house AND a ghost?! This is crazy..." I walked out from my hiding spot and into the middle of the room. Banette just grumbled and flew around me. "This isn't helping!" I shouted. "Holy shit, Plums...." My shouting clearly attracted the eyeliner wearing stranger. "A ghost!" He ran down the stairs and up to Banette and I. "Oh! Don't worry, this is just Banette, he may be a ghost type but he's very friendly." I smiled sweetly. Maybe I could befriend them and we could live together? Even if they looked very scary with their eye liner and....gangster like clothing choice. "Guz holy shit get away from that thing!" I started to panic. "No no! It's okay! He won't hurt anyone!" I quickly grabbed my beloved Pokémon and took a few steps back. "I'm not talkin' about the Pokémon...." 'Guz' looked me up and down, causing me to hug Banette closer to my body. "She doesn't know she's dead...." I froze up. What was he talking about?!I can't be dead! I was just walking around Alola a few days ago! "Look, I don't know who you are, but this isn't funny!" I took a step forward, startling the two in front of me. "You're (Y/n) (L/n). Ya died in a storm....like, two years ago..." The white-haired male reached forward to touch my shoulder, but his hand phased through me. "No! T-that can't be! I...I was just walking around Alola the other day! I-It..." I looked down at my hands, realizing they were now a very pale, almost glowing white colour. I then noticed I wasn't even standing on the ground, I was in fact floating. "Holy shit I am dead..." The two looked at each other, debating if they should help or not. "Just don't haunt our asses when we move in." 'Plums' chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. But damn, it didn't help at all. I quickly walked, well, more like flew away from the two, phasing through a wall in the process. "Jesus Christ that was a good idea!" 'Guz' yelled sarcastically. He was so loud I could hear him from the other room. "Well I don't want her livin' in the house with us! She'll burn it to the ground with us here!" I could hear the door open and slam close. "I'll see ya later, kid." The door opened and slammed shut once again. "Why couldn't I just die properly and not come back?!"
The abandoned house in Po Town wasn't perfect. Not even close.
Time held no meaning to me. Days flew by like seconds, and the two strangers, who I know now as Guzma and Plumeria, popped by from time to time. Not to say hi, of course, but just to check on the house, make sure I hadn't burned it down with my "ghostly rage".
Guzma, however, would leave small gifts from time to time. He would only drop them off and leave, he never stayed to talk to me. Such a pity, he seemed like a nice guy. Then again, I barely even know him.
Once he left a small pile of flowers, half dead already. But it's the thought that counts.
The second time he left a little, Clefairy Pokédoll with a note that said something along the lines of "Sucks that you're dead." He also left a news paper article, with the headline, (Y/n) (L/n) found dead in Po Town. All it really said in the article was where I came from, the day I died and how it was "such a tragedy". It didn't even specify how I died.
"Guzma? Are you here?" I phased through a wall floated into the front of the house. "Hell yeah it is. And I brought somethin'." He chuckled, tossing me a blue stone, barely giving me enough time to catch it. "So ya can hold stuff now." I just nodded, too focused on the glimmering stone. "It's a dawn stone. It's been my lucky charm for a while, I thought I should give it to ya." I looked up at him, only now noticing how tired he looked. He looked even worse then me, and I'm dead. "How often do you sleep?" His faced scrunched up in confusion, probably thinking I'm insane. "Shit sorry! You kinda look exhausted and I was just wondering if you even get any sleep." As soon as the words left my mouth, I realized how shitty that sounded. "Sorry! Just...Thanks for the stone. It's really beautiful. It reminds me of the water back in Hoenn." Even though I sort of made fun of him, Guzma's features relaxed and he still smiled at me. And wow, it was actually kind of cute. "Ya should really tell me about Hoenn sometime. I've never been," He walked towards the door, opening it, but then turning to face me. "Consider it a date." Before I could even mutter out an answer, Guzma winked and left the house, leaving me stunned and alone. I could hear Banette chuckle behind me. "Oh shut up."
Being dead wasn't easy. I missed my family, I missed my home region, and I missed traveling the world with my friends. All I had now was Banette and Guzma. Could I even count him though? We don't talk a whole lot. He stops by once and a while to say hi. And sometimes he flirts with me, but it doesn't mean anything. I'm dead, he's alive. Even if the flirting did mean something, it wouldn't work out.
I wish I could die again, and this time, not come back as a ghost.
It was a normal day, it was raining outside, I was trapped inside, and Jesus Christ I was bored. "Hey ghost kid?" Guzma slammed the door behind him. "Get ya ass over here." I floated over to him, clearly unimpressed. "Gee whatever happened to 'please and thank you'?" Guzma rolled his eyes at me. "Whateva. I just wanted to say that my team is movin' in. Ya won't be so alone anymore." Even though Guzma didn't really ask to move in, I couldn't help but smile. "How many people are going to be moving in? And when will this be happening?" I just now realized how awkward this will be. All these random people just moving in, probably all of them will be terrified of me. "About twenty to thirty people will be comin' in and out. Expect us all tomorrow." I felt all the colour drain from my already pale face. "That many people?!" I could see the panic on Guzma's face. "Chill, chill. It won't be that bad." I actually started getting pretty worked up. "Oh I think it will be "that" bad. Thanks a whole lot for asking me." I refused to face him any longer. Ignoring his cries, I angrily phased through a wall. He is so lucky I like him, or he would be haunting this house with me.
Two weeks pass, and I realize that Guzma's "team" wasn't just some kind of club. They were actually a group of Pokémon thieves. And it wasn't my house anymore, it was their "base", to do shitty things to nice people. And I couldn't do anything about it. No one was scared of me, which was nice for once, but then again, no one would talk to me. Well, everyone but Guzma. He had really changed. It was...pretty nice. He would never leave me completely alone if he were in the house.
Sometimes we would stay up past midnight, talking about the stupidest things, like why little fairy types could defeat a dragon type, or how bug types were the coolest type of Pokémon. No matter how many shitty things he does, he was always there for me. Which is actually kinda cheesy and cliché. It was weird, a ghost, being best friends with a "evil" team leader, who was alive, might I add.
"How did I die?" It was a quiet night. All Guzma and I were doing was sitting in silence. I had figured out how to not phase through people. So, I was laying on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. God, I missed having one of those. "Pfft how would I know?!" He sat up, moving away from me. "I know you know! Just tell me!....Please..." I could already feel my eyes welling up with tears. Now I know that ghosts can, in fact, cry. "Look, I don't know exactly how it happened. It was like, a tree or somethin' that fell on ya. Then ya Pokémon pulled ya inside or some shit like that. Wasn't really a big deal." Guzma refused to make eye contact with me. "What do you mean 'not a big deal'? I fucking died! That's kind of a big deal." I started to float away from him, clenching my fists in anger. "I bet my family doesn't even know I'm dead! I-I...I'm completely alone...and no one will even talk to me 'cause I'm a fucking ghost! I have no one..." Before I could float away, Guzma grabbed my hand and forced me to look into his eyes. "Ya have me. And I'm never leavin'." I sniffled, real tears actually streaming down my cheeks. My small sobs turned into hiccups, and Guzma wiped any stray tears away with his thumb. "You promise?" I wrapped my limp arms around his lanky frame. He kissed the top of my cold, pale head, laughing lightly. "I promise. And I never break promises."
"I'm headin' out for a few days." The house was empty, everyone in it had lefts days ago. Something about a deal they had with the "Aether Foundation". "Where are you going?" I cautiously said, careful to not upset Guzma. He had been a bit...temperamental lately. I don't know why, but I wanted to help. I tried showing more affection then usual, but he would just brush me off, sometimes he would snap and yell at me. At least he would apologize afterwards. "Don't worry 'bout it, love. Just a lil business. Promise I'll be back, don't worry." He quickly walked over to me and pecked me on the lips. "See ya!" I waved sadly. "Bye...see you later." The door slammed shut and the house was quiet once again. No loud music being blasted by Plumeria because she had to do the dishes after supper, no excited yelling of the grunts while battling in the halls, and no more laying on Guzma's cheat just to hear his loud, but calming heartbeat. The silence was pitiful, and it made me feel even more alone then ever. Banette floated over and laid down on my head. "He'll come back. Don't worry, he promised." I smiled sadly, holding onto his words, for they were the only thing keeping me alive.
I think it's been a few weeks now, and my faith in Guzma had started to fade. I haven't moved from my spot on the staircase in days. He wouldn't break his promise though. So any second now, he'll burst through that door, and I'll hover over to him so fast, I knock him over. And we'll both be a laughing mess on the ground. Banette had gotten tired of my waiting, he thought Guzma wouldn't return. But the ghost type was wrong. He'd be back.
Dust had started to collect, and I realized the Team Skull leader wasn't coming back. It's been a month or so. A month of me waiting miserably in the run down house. A month of me talking to myself, filling myself with fake hope. A month of going over the fact that he only pitied me, and didn't actually care. "You said it would only be a few days... you said you'd come back!" I could feel cold, salty tears run down my ghostly cheeks. "You said you wouldn't leave me!"
"You promised."
