It was unheard of for a hunter to want to be found. It was antithetical to their very life goal, their very purpose. Many were even told from a young age: get in, get the job done, do not be discovered, and get out. It was an unspoken caveat to these terms that returning home was not guaranteed(and, by the way, not covered by any warrantee, thank you very much).

But that was exactly what Millie Winchester wanted: to be found. And not simply to be found, but to be known.

To be known by anyone. She was past her teenage years, but teenage angst still coiled up inside her like a rusted spring waiting, hungering, aching for its release. Her brother Dean declared she was too young to hunt with them, and humidity formed in the air. Sam rolled his eyes at his immature brat sister, and the steel of her spring grew moist. Her dad let Dean pick dinner for the third night in a row(even though she'd begged and begged all week for pizza), and the first flakes of rust began to form. Finally, the boy at the bar says he would like nothing more than to know her, and she lets him, but two months later she finds she's more lost than she's ever been. Without the revelation of deeply knowing someone, the spring in her chest was left to rusted isolation.

So, when a reaper and a goddess appear, promising to show her the ropes whose threads are woven with independence, she doesn't hesitate to climb. The further she gets up the rope, the more secrets she uncovers about the past ― her own past, separate from the life she has known since living with John Winchester and his boys. Unfortunately, she finds her fall is steeper up top. Her mother's identity brings an exceptionally dangerous element to Millie's life, and Millie must learn to tamper with heaven and hell if she wants to protect herself from this danger.

And yet, in those last blinks of sleepless nights before her whole eyes ― her whole world ― opened, she still wondered: how could she expect someone else to find her if she could not even find herself?

author's note. this story is one of the books in my 'vessels' series, which takes place in the 'supernatural' universe. though, it is not required that you read the other books before this one, because there will be no spoilers for the other book for a while(and this actually does take place before the others). and yes, this story has been published before! it was originally written by the lovely -beewrites-, who has honored me by passing millie and her story on to me. so, original gp&l readers, if you find yourselves here, welcome!

AlSO! and this is an important also! you might notice a discrepancy in millie's name across the books in this series! millie's character was originally known as kat(katarina), but when i decided to write this book, her name changed to millie. she is essentially the same character, but i have not been able to go and change every instance of kat in the other books to millie yet, so depending on when you're reading them, it might be a little funky for a bit!
