Chapter Two
Edited on 18/04/2016
Heading towards the Staff building, Aurey walks through the quiet school grounds at a brisk pace, trying to keep her body warm in the chilly morning air. Though the sun is already beginning to shine, it had yet to share any of its warmth, making Aurey feel as if it were still Winter.
Her breaths visible due to the cold, the girl hugs her grey sweater even tighter around herself and bounds up the stone stairs to the Staff building. She places a hand against one of the double doors and shoves it open, hurrying inside and sighing with relief at the immediate wave of warmth that washes over her. Clearly someone had turned on every heater in the building, considering the temperature inside.
Walking by the Staff room, the smell of fresh coffee wafting past her nose, Aurey makes her way over to the Headmaster's office. Last night when she'd stopped by to see him, Headmaster Fujimura had requested that she come back in the morning, to further discuss.
Aurey stops in front of the door to the Headmaster's office, knocking politely. Upon hearing him call her in, Aurey pushes the door open, only to freeze in the doorway and deadpan, hand still on the knob.
Leaning back in a chair before the Headmaster's desk, hands shoved in his pockets, Riah sends Aurey a pleasant smile and tilts his head to the side.
"Good morning Aurey" the brunette greets kindly, to which Aurey abruptly slams the door closed and turns to Headmaster Fujimura.
"The Vampire is here?" she questions irately, not having expected to see him this morning. She didn't want to see Riah either. If it were up to Aurey, she'd never have to deal with Riah or any of the other Vampires again.
"Please take a seat Aurienne" Headmaster Fujimura invites, though Aurey notices the seriousness in his tone. Leaning his elbows on his desk, the Headmaster folds his hands in front of his face, waiting for his lavender haired student to sit down. The man knew she didn't like Riah at all, but he really needed to discuss some serious matters with the two right now.
Moving stiffly, Aurey walks over to the seat besides Riah and carefully lowers herself into it, making sure not to so much as spare the Vampire a glance. Riah watches Aurey curiously however, seeing the way she moves her chair to the side, creating a few more centimetres of distance between them.
"How is Elena doing?" Riah asks after a few moments of silence, to which Aurey glares at him from the corner of her eye, expression hardening.
"That's none of your concern Vampire" the girl retorts. "Seeing as one of your kind hurt her, you have no right to-"
"Aurienne" Headmaster Fujimura interrupts, looking at her over the top of his glasses, "That's enough. I didn't bring the two of you here to argue. Elena will be fine Riah, I have erased her memory, so she won't remember anything that happened last night."
"Well, that's a relief" Riah replies, closing his eyes and smiling. Aurey rolls her eyes at this and folds her arms across her chest unhappily, not buying Riah's friendly act at all.
"Regarding what happened last night" Headmaster Fujimura begins slowly, frowning, "I'm not going to mince words. I'm not happy. At all."
Riah and Aurey both sweat drop at their Headmaster's sharp tone, realising that they're both about to get into a lot of trouble. Certainly not what either of them had been expecting this morning.
"Aurienne" the Headmaster addresses, making the girl wince, "While I was initially hesitant to allow a Vampire Hunter to attend Shiraki Institute, I compromised with the Syndicate and let you in. I understand they are uncomfortable with the idea of a mixed school for humans and Vampires, so I agreed to admit you into this school to keep an eye on the Vampire students, for the sake of not creating an issue with the Syndicate
"I, however, do not understand why you thought it was okay to use your anti-Vampire weapons on a student" the Headmaster reprimands, his brows furrowing. "I absolutely will not allow you to walk around this school armed. All students at Shiraki Institute should be able to live on the grounds and feel safe."
Aurey's eyes widen in disbelief at the Headmaster's words, the lavender haired girl shaking her head. Did Headmaster Fujimura even hear what he was saying?
"Feel safe?" Aurey repeats incredulously. "The only reason the human students feel safe is because they don't know about the Vampire ones! They wouldn't feel so safe if they knew! What was I supposed to do when I saw one of the Vampires trying to kill a girl?!"
"Kiersten had no intention of killing Elena" Riah interjects, wanting to defend his friend. Aurey leans forwards in her seat and turns to him angrily, hands balling into fists.
"So what was he trying to do then?" she snaps back, eyes blazing. "He lured her out there and went straight for her throat. I know all about Vampire attacks, seeing as I'm a Vampire Hunter, so don't you tell me he wasn't trying to kill Elena, because that's a lie!"
"Please try not to shout Aurienne" the Headmaster sighs, wanting her to calm down before anyone came to see what the fuss was about. "Riah is not responsible for the attack."
"He's the Night School Representative" Aurey argues, rising from her seat. "He should be keeping track of the other Vampires, seeing as they're able to kill my friends if they want to. He is responsible for all of them!"
A troubled look crosses Riah's face at Aurey's clear anger, and he looks to the Headmaster, not sure how they might be able to calm the girl down. Riah didn't want to aggravate Aurey at all, in fact, he wished the two of them could work together to bring humans and Vampires closer.
It didn't seem as if the young Vampire Hunter wanted the same thing though. She merely wanted to teach the Vampires a lesson and make them out to be horrible killing machines with no self control.
"I am not picking sides here Aurienne" the Headmaster advises, motioning for the girl to take her seat again. "You know that I am neutral towards both humans and Vampires, so I will never say one is more to blame than the other. That doesn't change my opinion on your weapons however. You are forbidden to walk around the school grounds with them on you. I will not tolerate it."
Dumping herself back into her seat, Aurey shrugs her shoulders in defeat and smiles at the Headmaster, though it is not one of happiness.
"You're making a mistake" she warns. "The next time one of those creatures attacks a student, and it will happen, they'll die. All because you won't let me keep my weapons on me, despite them being perfectly concealed. I've been doing it for two years and it's never been a problem."
"That's because there has never been an attack on a student here" the Headmaster reminds Aurey, sounding slightly annoyed by her stubbornness. "May I remind you Aurienne, that since this school was erected many years ago, there has never once been a Vampire attack on the grounds. The attack last night is the first of its kind."
"That doesn't mean it won't be the last" Aurey states lowly, averting her eyes and hooding them. "I don't get why you're so upset about me trying to stand up for my fellow humans, who are defenceless if they get attacked by a Vampire......."
"It took me a long time to calm down some of the students who heard your gunshot last night" Headmaster Fujimura informs Aurey, shaking his head. "They were scared that the sound had come from the school grounds."
"Better for them to be scared of a sound" Aurey replies stubbornly, "Than to be terrified of a possible murderer when they find Elena's body in the garden. I saved her life, and you can't convince me otherwise. Those Vampires aren't as trustworthy as you give them credit for."
".....It seems you have a very biased opinion of us then" Riah speaks up, a faint smile on his face. "I'm not sure what drove you to become a Vampire Hunter Aurey, but it's hardly fair to judge all of us, based on the actions of a few of us."
"Stop calling me Aurey" the lavender haired girl orders, crossing her arms again and turning her head away from Riah. "You're not my friend Vampire, and you never will be. I'd never be so stupid to become friends with any of your kind."
Riah sighs at that, reaching up to run a hand through his messy, chocolate brown hair. It didn't look like arguing with Aurey was going to get him anywhere, and Riah really didn't want to annoy her any more than she already had been. He wasn't the type to enjoy serious arguing.
"Though I'm sure I'm going to regret bringing this up" the Vampire states sheepishly, grinning, "The Night School is a little restless now, knowing that there is a Vampire Hunter living at the Institute. They're not really sure if they'll get punished by Aurey here if they go anywhere near the Day School."
A large vein appears on the side of Aurey's head as she turns to grimace at Riah, further irritated by the friendly look on his face. He just loved pushing her buttons....
"If they don't do anything wrong" Aurey mutters through gritted teach, "I have no moral reason to pull my gun on any of them."
"You can assure the Night Night School that they are perfectly safe to continue as usual" Headmaster Fujimura tells Riah, though he raises an eyebrow at Aurey and sends her a pointed look. "Aurienne will no longer be carrying her weapons around the school, so they have no need to fear for their safety."
"I just have to fear for the safety of all of my friends as per usual" Aurey says smartly, returning the Headmaster's look with a tight smile, her attitude not impressing the man.
Turning his head, Riah watches Aurey with a concerned look as she rises from her seat, pushing it back. Done with the conversation, Aurey silently walks over to the door, ready to leave. It didn't matter what she said, the Headmaster wasn't going to see things from her point of view.
It was her job as a Vampire Hunter to protect her fellow humans, and such a job wouldn't even exist if Vampires really were able to control their blood lust. Why didn't Headmaster Fujimura understand that Aurey was the good guy here? She only wanted to keep her classmates alive and safe from the vile creatures living on the other side of the Institute.
"Kiersten has been punished for what he did to Elena" Riah assures Aurey, causing her to pause with the door halfway open. "I'll make sure it never happens again, if that makes you feel any better."
Laughing to herself, Aurey glances back at Riah over her shoulder, a nasty smirk on her face.
"I don't believe you for one second" she states icily. "I just want it to be remembered that I tried to convince you Headmaster. The blood of the next student who is attacked will be on your hands, not mine."
Feeling a little saddened by her cold response, Riah closes his eyes as Aurey slams the door closed and marches off, tilting his head down. He hears the Headmaster sigh deeply, concerned with Aurey's attitude towards Vampires.
"I didn't realise just how deeply rooted her hatred for Vampires was" the blue haired man mumbles, lifting his glasses and running a hand down his face. "I suppose it's to be expected though...........Riah?"
The brunette Vampire raises his head, sending the Headmaster a questioning look.
"Keep an eye on the Night School alright?" the man requests tiredly. "While I don't believe any of them are bad Vampires, I do believe that not all of them hold the same morals as you and I. We need to keep this school safe for both humans and Vampires, if we're to be one step closer to bringing your parent's plan to fruition..........And....Please, forgive Aurey for her harsh words. She's been through a lot and she does mean well....."
Nodding in agreement, Riah closes his eyes and allows his mouth to curve up into his signature cheeky grin.
"No problem" the Vampire responds. "The Night School will be on their best behaviour so we can prove to Aurey, and the other humans, that our two species really can exist together in peace."

Aurey stomps down the stairs of the Staff building, puffs of steam shooting away from the top of her head. Too annoyed to feel the cold air against her skin, Aurey pauses at the bottom of the stairs and exhales raggedly.
She couldn't go see her friends while she was this irritated, or she might accidentally snap at them. The girl needed to calm down before seeing her friends or heading to her first morning class.
Looking to her left, Aurey jogs over the small garden at the side of the Staff building and ducks behind a tree. She spins around and rests her back against the trunk of the tree, now out of sight.
Reaching into one of the pockets in her skirt, Aurey pulls out her mobile phone, flicking through her contact list until she finds a certain name. Pressing on the call button, Aurey tilts her head back and rests it against the tree while the phone rings, closing her eyes.
"....Aurey?" a young male voice asks uncertainly, to which Aurey can't help smiling.
"Hey Aren" she greets softly. "How are you?"
"Aurey!" the boy responds, sounding more excited this time. "Hey, I'm good! I'm still in bed, but I'm good!"
Aurey laughs at this, shaking her head. Her little brother could be so lazy sometimes. He always did enjoy sleeping in.
"You're still in bed?" the lavender haired girl repeats, amused. "Don't you have class in half an hour?"
"Yeah, but I decided to skip breakfast so I could sleep longer this morning" Aren replies easily. "I had a hit last night, so I was out late dealing with him."
"Oh?" Aurey queries, raising one eyebrow. "What kind of hit? Did you have any trouble?"
"Nah, Warren gave me the address of the place my hit was gonna be" Aren explains, yawning loudly in the middle of his sentence. "Sorry bout that. I just snuck up on the Vamp and shot him in the head from behind. I don't even think he knew I was there."
"Good job Aren" Aurey praises, a broad smile on her face. "I'm proud of you. You're a good Vampire Hunter, even though you're still just a kid."
"I'm only two years younger than you Aurey!" Aren protests loudly. "Sixteen is hardly a kid!"
"Are you doing well in school?" Aurey questions, just about able to hear Aren's eye roll as she dismisses his statement. "I don't want to hear that your grades are slipping."
"I'm doing good Aurey" Aren answers indignantly, used to his older sister asking the same question every time they spoke on the phone. "School's easy, but it's only the beginning of the new school year ya know?"
"I know, I know" Aurey chuckles, only to pause when she raises her head and spies Riah heading back towards the Night School. Her happy expression quickly drops at the sight of the Vampire, a hard look in her blue eyes. "Has Warren been giving you many hits recently?"
"Yeah, a couple" Aren confirms, though he sounds confident. "Not so many that I can't handle them though. When I called Warren last night to say I'd taken care of my hit, he said he was going to send me another one today."
"Well, just make sure you're taking care of yourself Aren" Aurey urges. "Don't tire yourself out okay? Hunting out of control Vampires is important, but your health is more important. To me anyway."
"You be careful too Aurey" Aren says seriously, surprising his sister. "I don't hear from you very often anymore, so I guess you're pretty busy. Just......Look after yourself sis."
"I'm sorry Aren" Aurey apologises, her eyes wavering a little. "I'm sorry I haven't been calling you very often lately. I've been dealing with a lot of hits from the Syndicate and-"
"It's okay" Aren interrupts with a quiet laugh. "It's just good to know that you're still around, even though we're not together anymore. I miss seeing you every day, like when we were getting tutored at the Syndicate, but I kinda like being out here on my own too. Makes me feel more like an adult, even if you think I'm still a kid."
"I miss you too little bro" Aurey replies, feeling a pang in her heart, "But Warren needs us to keep an eye on the Vampires at our schools and protect the human students. We've got very important jobs, and I know Mom and Dad would be proud of us."
"Yeah I reckon they would be too" Aren agrees, both siblings falling silent for a few seconds as they remember their parents. "Oh, my phone just beeped. Warren must have sent me the information on my next mark."
"I better let you go then huh?" Aurey sighs, shifting her position so that she is no longer leaning against the tree. "You need to get up and get ready for class anyway."
"Yeah, guess I better" Aren agrees reluctantly. "Oh and hey, before I forget. I've been meaning to tell you this for ages but uh, I kinda um.......met a girl here."
Aurey's eyes bulge in shock at this, her mouth turning up into a cheeky grin.
"A girl huh?" she questions mischievously. "Well, well, look who's all grown up? What's her name? What's she like? When did you meet her?"
"Whoa, whoa" Aren laughs awkwardly, "Slow down Aurey. I don't have the time to explain everything right now but her name is Marice, she's really pretty and fun, but she's quiet too. She was kinda shy at first, but we get along really well! We've known each other since I first got here, so I met her about two years ago. This is kinda embarrassing to admit to you but....I kinda um....told her that I love her last week....."
"What did she say?!" Aurey exclaims excitedly, eager to know. She was glad that her brother seemed so happy about this girl. He was such a good person and Aurey had always wanted the best for him.
"She got all embarrassed about it" Aren recalls, though he chuckles to himself. "It was really cute actually, but she said it back. I can't wait to introduce you to her Aurey, I think you'll really like her!"
"I'm happy for you Aren" Aurey replies honestly, unable to contain her smile. "I can't wait to meet her either. Now go on, you better hang up before we keep talking and make you late for class!"
"Yes sir" Aren says playfully. "I'll talk to you later then Aurey. Love you."
"Love you too Aren" the lavender haired girl replies softly. "Be good."
That said, Aurey hangs up the phone and shoves it back in her pocket, feeling much lighter than before.
Phone conversations with Aren always put Aurey in a good mood. Considering they rarely got to see each other since being sent to different schools, it was always nice to hear from him and know that he was doing well. Aren was the only family Aurey had left, and she loved him more than anything in the world.

"As you are all aware" Aurey announces, looking out at the audience of a silent Day School students, "Tomorrow will mark the beginning of Golden Week, which means that classes will be cancelled until next Monday."
Aurey pauses as her fellow students turn to each other and exchange excited grins, whispering in hushed tones. The blue eyed girl smiles to herself, sharing their eagerness for a whole week to just relax and have fun. Everyone enjoyed Golden Week!
"There will be activities set up in this hall and in some of the classrooms as well" Aurey continues, glancing down at the paper resting on the podium before her. "While you are allowed to leave the school and head into the town if you like, it is mandatory that you give your name and phone number to either myself or one of the teachers. We need to keep record of who is leaving the school. The same goes for anyone who is heading home for the week. Please let either myself or a teacher know your plans."
"As per usual" Aurey explains, her smile fading, "The Night School is off limits for all Day School students, unless you have the permission of the Headmaster. They held an assembly similar to this one last night, so they are also aware of these rules. Though I have the utmost confidence that none of you will, please try not to ruin a good week by breaking any of these rules. We want everyone to relax, have fun and stay safe. Headmaster?"
Stepping back from the podium, Aurey glances at Headmaster Fujimura, allowing him to take over.
"Thank you for the announcement Aurey" the blue haired man says with a smile, "Though I just have one more thing to add. The rules are there to be followed by all students, and anyone who chooses to break them will be punished. So please, do yourselves a favour and behave, alright?"
"Well, that's all for tonight everyone" Headmaster Fujimura finishes, nodding his head, "So you are all dismissed. Have a good night!"
The hall immediately begins to echo with noise as students rise from their seats and talk amongst themselves eagerly, expressing ideas of what they could do to spend their time during Golden Week.
"I know you're already worrying about the Night School Aurey" Headmaster Fujimura observes, seeing how the girl's brow is creased, "But don't worry. I've already personally explained the rules to them, and they won't be setting foot on Day School grounds during Golden Week. Your classmates will be safe, alright?"
"I appreciate your efforts Headmaster" Aurey says gratefully, though she shrugs her shoulders and smiles sheepishly, "But I can't help worrying about the Day School, especially now that I'm not armed. I always worry for my classmates. I really can't help it."
"It will be fine Aurey" the Headmaster reiterates kindly, placing one hand on the girl's shoulder. "Riah will keep an eye on the others. He does a good job looking out for them, just as you do a good job looking out for the Day School. Try not to stress yourself out this week, okay?"
Aurey blanches as the Headmaster walks off, not reassured by his words at all.
"I'll do my best" she mutters wryly. Riah was keeping watch over the other Vampires? There was no way he could handle a responsibility like that. They'd be lucky if the Institute didn't descend into anarchy during Golden Week.
________________________________________________________________________
"I definitely want to go to the movies at some point this week!" Kalel decides, her ruffled skirt bouncing around as she skips ahead of Aurey and Annistar. "I haven't been in such a long time."
"But it'll be so busy there" Annistar complains, adjusting the strap of her guitar across her torso. "The movies are always busy during Golden Week. We'll be crushed in there like sardines in a tin."
"To be fair" Aurey chimes in, "It's busy everywhere during Golden Week. That's why we set up activities here in the school."
"I don't care if it's busy though" Kalel argues, pouting cutely. "I still want to go and see a movie with you guys."
Walking over to a large, shady tree with a bench seat sitting at it it's base, Kalel and Aurey ease themselves down onto the grass, with Annistar flinging herself across the bench. She reaches behind her and pulls her black electric guitar around, picking at the strings quietly. Aurey and Kalel grin at each other, before the lavender haired girl lies back in the grass, arms folded behind her head.
"We might not be able to go to the movies together anyway" Annistar continues the conversation, turning her head and flicking one long ponytail over her shoulder. "Aurey's pretty busy keeping everything under control for Golden Week. It's already Tuesday afternoon, and this is the first chance she's had to relax since Sunday."
"Everyone is so eager to leave the school on the first day of Golden Week" Aurey laughs, sweat dropping. "I had to chase up so many people before they left and forgot to give me their details. Headmaster Fujimura had me keeping an eye on all of the classroom activities too, to make sure nobody got rowdy. Sorry guys, I'm not trying to avoid you or anything."
"I'm glad I'm not a Rep" Kalel says brightly, to which Aurey sits up and deadpans. "It seems like so much work!"
"Yeah, it'd be a pain if someone had volunteered your name without your consent huh?" Aurey questions flatly. Kalel merely sends the blue eyed girl a cute, closed eye grin, to which Aurey can't help sighing in defeat. The ginger haired girl was too cute, Aurey couldn't be mad at her.
"Hey, what's Riah doing way over here?" Annistar suddenly questions, one pink brow rising. Aurey's neck wrenches around, only for the girl to scowl when she spots the brown haired Vampire wandering around near the edge of the forest garden.
'What does that idiot think he's doing on Day School grounds?' Aurey wonders irately, pushing herself to her feet. 'He should be asleep right now!'
"I'll be back in a second" Aurey sighs, walking away from her friends. "I'm gonna make Riah get lost."
"Aw, bring him over here!" Kalel encourages, hazel eyes sparkling. "We never get to talk to him and he's so nice!"
"I'm almost willing to bet money that Aurey's going to hit him" Annistar mutters with a sly smirk, waiting until the other girl stomps away. "She can't stand that guy."
"No way Annie" Kalel disagrees, crawling closer to the pinkette and shaking her head. "Aurey's not violent! She'd never hit someone!"
Striding towards Riah with an aggravated look on her face, Aurey glares at the Vampire, ready to give him a piece of her mind. Even after the rules of Golden Week had been explained to him and the other Vampires by the Headmaster himself, Riah had still come all the way over to break the rules?
Hopefully none of the other Day School students would spot the brunette, or Aurey would have trouble dragging them away.......
"What the hell are you doing on this side of the garden?" Aurey demands to know, catching Riah's attention. He pauses in his walking and raises his hand in a wave as Aurey marches over, giving the girl a friendly smile.
Dressed casually, in a dark red jacket and somewhat tight fitting black jeans with a thin chain attached to the pocket, it was almost strange to see Riah. Aurey was so used to seeing him in his uniform, though she assumed it was probably different for him to see her out of uniform also. While the students didn't have to wear their uniforms on weekends if they didn't want to, Aurey never usually saw the Night School students at such times. Mostly because they usually slept during the day and only came out at night, though Riah seemed to be quite awake for mid afternoon.
"Oh, good afternoon Aurey" the brunette greets pleasantly, looking down at the unhappy girl with a teasing look in his eyes. "Now that's not a very cute face. You should probably try smiling or something."
"And you should probably try obeying the rules" Aurey retorts, her eyebrow twitching. "I thought the Headmaster explained to you Vampires that you aren't allowed over here."
"He did" Riah confirms simply, nodding. He continues to smile at Aurey as she glowers up at him, growing more and more annoyed with every passing second. Was he making fun of her, smiling like that? And if Riah understood the rules, why had he broken them?
"What are you doing on Day School grounds?" the lavender haired girl asks with a heavy sigh, resisting the urge to run a hand down her face.
"Oh, nothing" Riah answers with a short laugh, sweat dropping. "Just......looking for something."
Aurey's eyes narrow in suspicion when the Vampire raises an arm and rubs the back of his neck, wondering why he's answering her question so vaguely. Clearly he was up to something no good.
"And what exactly are you looking for?" Aurey inquires flatly, arms crossed.
"Cienna" Riah admits, grinning guiltily. He braces himself as Aurey continues to stare through narrowed eyes, before a large vein grows on the side of her head.
"What?!" the lavender haired girl explodes, throwing her hands in the air. "Are you serious?! You've lost a Vampire on Day School grounds?!"
"Don't worry Aurey, just calm down" Riah encourages soothingly, waving one hand in a dismissive fashion. "Cienna might not even be on school grounds any more, so don't worry about it."
Aurey's shoulders slump and she gives Riah a dry look, eyes hooded. Though the Vampire can see that Aurey is extremely ticked off right now, he smiles innocently, as if Cienna hadn't vanished from the school.
While Aurey only knew Cienna by name, she was not at all comfortable with the idea of an unsupervised Vampire on the loose, possibly running rampant out in the streets.
"Whether Cienna's in the school or not" Aurey eventually replies, pressing her fingertips against her forehead, "It's not safe for anyone if there's a Vampire running around. Especially if no one knows where it is. Who knows what it'll get up to...."
"Ah, Cienna will be fine alone" Riah says cheerfully. "Your human friends will be safe, because Cienna can't stand any kind of physical contact with anyone. Don't expect anyone to get attacked or bitten or anything."
Aurey quirks a brow at that, curious as to why Cienna wouldn't like physical contact, though she quickly shakes the thought from her mind. It didn't matter. While she didn't know anything about Cienna, except for the fact that the Vampire was a Night School student, Aurey wasn't keen on the idea of one of those vile creatures running around alone. Aurey wasn't about to take Riah's word on her friends' safety either. Whether Cienna enjoyed physical contact or not, the student was still a Vampire with a thirst for human blood.
"You'd better find Cienna Vampire" Aurey warns Riah, spinning on her heels and marching in the opposite direction. "Fast. Or I'll go and hunt-"
"Can you stop just calling me Vampire, like it's a dirty word?" Riah interrupts, complaining childishly as he reaches up to run a hand through his messy hair. "I don't call you Human, I call you Aurey!"
"Which I've asked you not to do as well" the girl retorts, not bothering to turn around. She wasn't about to start calling Riah by his name. He'd probably think she was warming up to him if she did that, and then he and the other Vampires would try to manipulate her. As if she'd be so stupid.
Riah watches Aurey march away from him, the playful look slowly dropping from his face. He places one hand in the pocket of his jacket, hooding his eyes and turning around, his expression somewhat grim.
"Where did you go Cienna?" the tired Vampire sighs lowly, heading off to continue with his search. "I really hope you're not causing any trouble......"
________________________________________________________________________
"Yeah, go Annie!" Kalel cries excitedly, cupping her hands around her mouth. "You can do it!"
Aurey, Kalel and a number of other students stand on the sidelines, watching as Annistar runs past, kicking a black and white ball in front of her. Two other Day School students chase after the pink haired girl, trying to steal the ball away. As one tries to kick the ball away from Annistar, she throws her arm back and jams her elbow into his stomach, sending the boy toppling to the ground in pain.
Aurey and Kalel both sweat drop as a loud chorus of complaints rises up from the injured boy's teammates and the onlookers supporting them. Annistar continues running though, not caring that she'd cheated, only to viciously kick at the Soccer ball and score a goal for her team.
"Yes!" the girl cheers, punching a fist in the air. While a few of Annistar's teammates also give a shout of victory, most of them merely pause and scratch their heads, unsure if they should be awarded the goal or not.
"Hey!" one of the male students barks, marching over to Annistar. "You cheated! You can't have physical contact with another player in Soccer. If this was a real game, you'd be getting a red card for that move Annistar!"
"Get over it!" the pink haired girl snaps back, throwing her hands on her hips and glaring up at the taller male. "If he wasn't so weak, he wouldn't be lying on the ground like that. Get out of the kitchen if you can't take the heat!"
"Aurey......" Kalel addresses softly, tugging on the sleeve of the lavender haired girl's shirt, ".....Shouldn't you go over and stop them?"
"You think it'll turn into a fight?" Aurey wonders, blanching when she sees the sparks flying between Annistar and the opposing boy's eyes. Yep. A fight was definitely imminent if the Rep didn't step in and break it up.
"It's Annie" Kalel laughs nervously. "Things always turn into fights, and I don't want that boy to get hurt."
"Look here!" Annistar snarls, lashing out at the taller boy and grabbing him by the collar of his shirt, roughly tugging him down to her height. "You're beginning to annoy me and that's gonna turn into a problem for you!"
"Oh yeah?" the boy challenges, smirking as he wraps his fingers around Annistar's wrist. "And what's a girl gonna do about it, huh? You're not so tough Annistar!"
"Uh oh" Kalel breathes, her hazel eyes widening. "Quick Aurey! Do something!"
The lavender haired girl blinks, pulling a face as she sees Annistar narrowing her dark eyes dangerously, lips curving up into a smirk. While small, Annistar had a fiery personality and a short fuse to go with it. Anything could set the girl off and she'd been in many a brawl, usually with one of the Day School boys. She'd received so many warnings from the Headmaster to quit fighting, but it didn't seem as if Annistar could control herself.
"Not so tough eh?" Annistar questions ominously, a dark shadow sweeping across her face as a large vein begins to throb on the side of her head. "I'm gonna make you eat those words you cocky bastard!"
An expression of horror and sheer terror replacing his confident smirk, the boy's eyes widen, before he is suddenly slammed into the ground. He lands heavily on his back, exhaling sharply, only for a now furious Annistar to leap at him, the two disappearing in a large cloud of dust.
Bewildered students watch on helplessly, cringing at the harsh words of abuse Annistar can be heard firing at the boy, limbs flailing wildly as she attacks him. With a push and a hopeful look from Kalel, a less than willing Aurey cautiously approaches the large dust cloud. She stares at it for a few moments, before hesitantly reaching out, her arm disappearing into the fray.
Grasping something in her fingers, Aurey swiftly pulls her arm back, only to see that she has caught Annistar by the back of her collar. The pink haired girl sends her friend an irritated look, to which Aurey smiles uncomfortably and waves with her free hand. Annistar rolls her eyes, glancing back over at her victim and smirking at her handiwork.
Lying spread eagle on the grass, the boy's eyes are spinning dizzily, a line of drool hanging from his mouth. Multiple bruises already mark his body, a line of blood trickling from his nose and a tear in his shirt.
"You're gonna get expelled if you're not careful Annistar" Aurey warns, walking back over to Kalel as people flock to help the injured boy. "You really did a number on that guy."
"Well, that's what he gets for taunting me" Annistar responds stubbornly, dusting herself off when Aurey sets her back down on the ground. Kalel quickly does a once over of the pinkette, making sure she is unhurt.
"Everyone is gonna be scared of you Annie" Kalel states cheekily, closing her eyes and smiling when she sees that, as per usual, Annistar has come out of her fight without so much as a scratch.
"Heh, good!" the girl grins darkly, adjusting one of her ponytails that had come loose during her scrap. "They should fear me!"
"I wish I'd never come to check on today's Soccer game" Aurey sighs, though she sends Annistar an amused look. "You're making my job as the Rep more difficult Annie. I'm the one that's going to have to deal with the Headmaster now."
"I'd say sorry Aurey" Annistar responds, smirking at her friend, "But I'd be lying. You know I can't let them get away with talking to me like that!"
"Yeah I know" Aurey laughs, glancing down as the phone in her pocket makes a sound. "I'm just thankful he didn't call you cute."
Annistar's eyelid twitches at that.
"I don't think he actually wanted to die" is all she says, to which Kalel giggles, Aurey pulling her phone from her pocket and inspecting the new message.
"I still remember you sending someone to hospital when they called you cute Annie" the ginger haired girl recalls, her large eyes glittering. "I don't get why you hate it though, I love being called cute!"
"I'm not cute though!" Annistar barks, throwing both fists into the air, her eyes blazing. "I am not cute dammit! I'll kill anyone who says so!"
Eyes flicking back and forth as she reads her latest text message, Aurey's amusement quickly fades away, a serious expression washing over her face.
She'd received a new hit from the Syndicate.

Aurey lies in her bed, hugging her blanket all the way up to her chin, eyes closed in feigned slumber. On the opposite side of the room, Kalel's breathing is soft and slow, signalling that she is fast asleep. Past the foot of Aurey's bed and towards the door, Annistar rolls over in her sleep, turning to face the wall as she snores quietly.
Her blue eyes popping open, Aurey slowly sits up in her bed and rolls her blanket back, looking between her two room mates silently.
Kalel, lying on her side with her ginger hair pooling around her head, remains still, her blanket moving the slightest amount with every deep breath. Sleeping much less gracefully, Annistar lies with half of her blanket already falling to the floor, one arm draped across her face.
Moving carefully, so as not to make a sound, Aurey sits up on her knees and turns towards the window, placing her hands on the sill. The girl subconsciously grits her teeth as she unlocks the window and begins sliding it upwards, moving painfully slow to keep it from squeaking. A chill runs up Aurey's spine as the cool night breeze touches her skin, the girl ducking down and climbing through the window.
Settling herself into an awkward sitting position, Aurey stares out into the night, finding the silent school grounds to be somewhat eerie in the darkness. The Night School looms in the distance, lights visible through some of the windows.
Judging by how late at night it was, the Vampires of the Night School would currently be in class. Hopefully none of them were breaking the rules and skipping class, because Aurey really didn't have the time to run into any of them right now.
Exhaling a quick breath, Aurey pushes herself away from the window and jumps onto the thick bough of a close by tree. She lands on all fours, turning her head and pausing for a moment, waiting to see if either of her room mates had heard her.
Satisfied that they have not stirred, Aurey swiftly descends the tree and drops to the ground.
When Aurey had enrolled at the Institute two years ago, the Headmaster had known she was a Vampire Hunter and had purposely placed her in the room next to the tree. Seeing as all of the student's rooms were situated on the second floor of the Day School building, Headmaster Fujimura had decided it would be the easiest way for Aurey to sneak out, should she have to take care of a hit at night. He didn't want her sneaking through the halls, as it would be hard for the girl to explain what she was doing if she got caught.
Keeping close to the wall of the School building, Aurey hurriedly makes her way through the grounds, heading for the entrance. Her thick, black combat boots make almost no sound as the girl treads across the well kept grass, eyes darting around keenly and ears alert to the most minute of sounds.
Upon reaching the front gate of the school, a marvellous and tall structure made of charcoal coloured wrought iron, Aurey darts through and breaks into a run when she reaches the street, heading towards town.
The girl is almost invisible as she sprints down the rather narrow road, clad in black jeans and a cropped, black sailor shirt. Small puffs of warm air escape Aurey's mouth and become visible in the cool night as she runs, the girl turning her head to look around.
Shiraki Institute, like the rest of the town, had been built in the middle of a large forest, though the school was a short distance away rather than actually in the town. Tall trees, some probably more than a hundred years old, loom on either side of Aurey, everything past them swathed in a darkness that the girl is unable to see through. Dotted alongside the road, the occasional lamp post casts its small glow of light, not really offering much relief at all.
Aurey continues to run however, unaffected by the surrounding darkness. This wasn't the first time she'd had to sneak out of her school like this, and it certainly wasn't the first time she'd ever hunted a Vampire on her own. This hit was going to be simple and quick, just how Aurey preferred them to be.
Aurey runs in a straight line for the next few minutes, when the town's soft lights come into view, the girl reaching an intersection in the road. Remembering the address she is supposed to be heading to, Aurey takes a right, not actually needing to head directly into the town.
The cool breeze pushes Aurey's shoulder length hair out behind her as she runs, the girl's floppy bow secured tightly in place to keep it from falling loose. All around her, crickets chirp loudly, only pausing when Aurey sprints over the top them, soon continuing their nightly chorus when she passes.
Aurey slows down into a pleasantly paced jog as a large house comes into view, the magnificence of the building hard to appreciate with basically no light. Stepping behind a tree to keep out of sight, Aurey pauses to catch her breath and let her heart rate slow down a little. She peeks around the side of the tree, eyes hooded as she studies the home.
Light pours from a few of the windows, signalling that someone is home at least, as Aurey had been told they would. The girl's only problem now, is how to get that someone. She was going to have to figure out a way to get into the building, without causing any alarm.
While Aurey was confident in her abilities, it would be much easier if she could take out an unsuspecting Vampire, rather than an angry one who wanted to fight. All Vampires were stronger and faster than any human could ever hope to be, with heightened senses and reflexes as well. To top that off, many Vampires possessed special abilities as well, so Aurey wasn't too keen on getting into a fight with one tonight.
Darting out from her hiding place, Aurey launches herself at the tall, brick fence around the property, scaling it with ease and propelling herself over the top. She hits the ground running, only to slide in behind a tree just as the door to the house opens.
Aurey presses her back against the trunk of the tree and holds her breath, worried that the home owner had seen her. She certainly hadn't been expecting the door to suddenly open like that, or she'd have remained on the other side of the fence a bit longer!
The girl watches from the corner of her eye as a man exits the door and heads down his gravel driveway, the tiny stones crunching beneath his feet. He yawns loudly, sounding as though he has only just woken up, donning a comfortable looking robe. Sipping at the cup of steaming coffee in his hand, the man stops at the end of his driveway and leans down, peering into his mailbox.
"Ah" he sighs, smiling sleepily to himself, "Here you are."
Satisfied that the morning's newspaper is still there, the man pulls it out and tucks it under his arm, only to freeze, his eyes narrowing.
"I thought I could smell a human scent" he states, slowly turning around. "It was carrying on the breeze."
"Aren't you talented" Aurey replies sarcastically, her voice low. She stands before the man with both of her guns pointing directly at him, a cold look in her hooded eyes. A long, silver chain is attached to the back of each weapon, hanging close to the ground, before travelling underneath Aurey's shirt and securing them to her body holster.
As the Vampire's eyes begin to glow red, Aurey pulls the trigger on the gun in her right hand, not wanting to give him a chance to attack. The information she'd been provided with had stated that this Vampire was incredibly violent, especially when it came to hunting for humans. Aurey wasn't about to become another one of his victims.
With a bang, a brightly glowing bullet shoots away from Aurey's anti-Vampire gun, piercing the man right through his heart. He stumbles backwards from the force, his face contorting into a pained expression. As he falls heavily to his knees, his eyes lifting to Aurey's face, the Vampire accidentally drops his mug of coffee. It smashes when it hits the gravel, coffee spilling across the ground, with a few small flecks of the liquid landing on the Vampire's robe.
Before Aurey's target can collapse onto his stomach, cracks swiftly begin appearing in his skin, a bright blue light shining from behind them. The ruby glow in the Vampire's eyes immediately fades away, before his body suddenly disintegrates into a large pile of grey ash at Aurey's feet.
Her gaze as hard as steel, Aurey lowers both of her guns, holding them down by her side as she glares at the Vampire's ashes. Though she had just taken the life of another creature, Aurey feels nothing but a sense of pride and justice. This thing had killed numerous people according to Warren's information and in destroying it, Aurey had saved the lives of countless others. This Vampire would never have the chance to harm another of her species again.
Briefly closing her eyes, Aurey places her guns back into their holsters and runs towards the brick fence. Bounding over it with relative ease, Aurey disappears into the night, vanishing like an apparition.
Justice had been served, fresh and cold, and Aurey was going to sleep well tonight.

Riah sits quietly in the foyer of the Night School building, waiting patiently in a large, comfortable arm chair. He leans his cheek in his palm, sighing and turning his head, not particularly enjoying the sight of the rising sun through the window.
Classes had ended a few hours ago and Riah really just wanted to go to bed, seeing as he'd been busy keeping on top of things. Golden week wasn't usually so stressful for the Vampire, seeing as he tended to only have minor business issues to deal with, while the rest of his free time could be used to do whatever he wanted.
This year however, seeing as he'd been elected as the Representative of the Night School, Riah now had to deal with controlling the other Vampires as well as keeping up with his other commitments. Riah didn't mind doing hard work, he rather enjoyed the challenge actually, but a few of the other Night School students were beginning to test his patience. It had only been three days since the beginning of Golden Week, four if you included the incoming morning, and a number of the other Vampires had been sneaking under the radar and wandering off campus without permission.
Riah and the Headmaster had very much pressed the importance of the Night School obeying the set rules this week, and while Riah had done his best, it seemed as though some of the others thought they could get the better of him.
Oh, there would be consequences of course, they no doubt knew that. But everyone also knew that Riah was not the kind who enjoyed conflict or feeling ill will towards others. They'd get off pretty easy with Riah in charge.
The brunette only hoped Aurey wouldn't find out about this. She'd already gotten mad about the idea of Cienna disappearing just the one time, though in reality the Vampire had disappeared every night so far this week. She'd flip if she knew there had been others running off to do who knows what as well.
She'd threatened to do something about it too, and that worried Riah a little. Now that he and the others knew Aurey was a Vampire Hunter, she had suddenly become so much more of a threat to them. While Headmaster Fujimura had forbidden the girl from carrying her awful anti-Vampire weapons on school property, the other Vampires weren't too sure she would comply. Riah was choosing to trust the girl, but then, he usually did try to give people the benefit of the doubt.....
Riah's maroon eyes flick up at the sound of the front door opening, before footsteps tap lightly across the marble floor of the foyer. The person who had just entered the room pauses however, spotting Riah watching them from the carpeted area to his right.
"Oh, good morning Riah" the male greets casually, hands shoved in his pockets. "I'm a little surprised to see that you're still awake. Trouble sleeping?"
".....Where have you been Kiersten?" Riah asks lowly, brown hair falling into his eyes as he shifts his position.
The silver haired Vampire lets out a laugh and shakes his head, raising one hand to wave it about in a dismissive fashion.
"Don't worry" Kiersten chuckles, a charming smile lighting up his face, "I haven't been out drinking blood or killing people or anything like that. I just went home is all. No big deal right?"
Sighing heavily, Riah lifts himself out of the arm chair and runs a hand through his hair, a tired look in his maroon eyes.
"I've already got enough problems with Cienna constantly disappearing from the grounds" Riah informs his friend, to which Kiersten rolls his eyes, "The Vampire Council are breathing down my neck, and then you go and vanish for three days without saying anything to anyone. What am I gonna do with you lot? You're gonna stress me out."
Kiersten laughs again as Riah leans down and playfully rests his forehead on the silver haired Vampire's shoulder, feigning exhaustion.
"Well, I don't know what you can do with someone like Cienna" Kiersten replies, placing one hand on each of Riah's shoulders and moving the brunette to the side, "But you can let me through, coz I'm tired and I want to go to sleep. Home is always so busy, I hate going back."
Stepping out of the way, Riah watches as Kiersten ascends the large staircase to the second floor, disappearing into a hallway and heading for his private room. There were far less Night School students at Shiraki Institute than Day ones, so each Vampire had the luxury of having a room all to themselves.
A thoughtful look crosses Riah's face, his brows furrowing into a very uncharacteristic, concerned frown. That had been a weird encounter with Kiersten. He wasn't usually so vague and evasive, especially about something as normal as going home for a few days. What exactly had he been up to while he was away?
