CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN
Quote of the day: What is the use of running, when you keep running out of ant holes, into boundless meadows.
Ashley watched Greg as he drove out of the hospital. She still couldn't believe what was happening, she had actually woken up at night to get out of the damn hospital when she found Greg sleeping, only for her to get out of her ward and see two bulky men, like why would he put body guards in front of her ward? Its like he was expecting her to run away or something.
Greg was awfully quiet as he drove, she also wasn't interested in a conversation, but he could at least acknowledge her presence. He had been ignoring her ever since he parked her off into his car this morning. Yes he literally carried her into his car when she had said she would rather go home alone or wait for Chloe.
She wondered what he was thinking being around her this much, he still had the launch to do at the company, he seemed to have a lot of time lately.
"Don't you have a company to attend to?" She asked with a hard voice.
"In case you don't know, I have someone called the vice president," he answered with that stupid scowl still on his face; he had been wearing the scowl all morning.
"How about the launch, are you supposed to trust that with someone else?" She asked again.
"At least its better than trusting you with someone else," Greg retorted hitting his hand on the wheel. He turned to her to award her a glare, before facing the road again.
She remained quiet at this point, but her quietness couldn't stay the same when she noticed the road they were passing. "Where are you taking me?"
"My house, in case you have forgotten, you have a psychopath who kinda wants your head on the loose," he answered coldly, not even sparing her a glance.
"Well I can take care of myself."
"Oh really, and look what a fine job you did," he said with sarcasm dripping in every word staring pointedly at her broken arm.
"You can't just decide that I'm going to your house without informing me!" Ashley yelled holding her left arm close to her, but as you can guess Greg ignored her. She decided to speak calmly, maybe she would be able to get sense into his head, "Greggy if at all I'm going to be staying with you don't I atleast need to pack some clothes."
He turned to face her with a smirk, "you don't have to bother my sweet, your belongings are currently at my house." Her face fell immediately he said this.
"What! Your house? That is not possible, Chloe wouldn't let you move my things without my permission," she said realizing that he was bluffing.
"Sorry, but I did not only move your stuffs, I also moved Chloe along. That apartment is not safe for you guys." Greg said before facing the road. She was shocked that he would do something like that, this is only going to make leaving harder, and there was no protecting Greg again. Her father must have gotten what he needed to get back at her now.
She recoiled into the comfy seat, and stared out the window as Greg drove on. She soon felt his hand on her left hand that was close to her chest, she looked at him and saw him placed the hand on his thigh gently, he touched her fingers, and soon enough he was playing with it, all this he did without glancing at her, this guy.
"We are here," he said as he pulled into his now familiar house, no mansion, "I have a surprise for you." He faced her with a smile on his face, she found herself staring at his face for a long time, she really missed this smile.
"What?" She asked.
"Why don't we go in," he said getting down from the car, she did likewise. He came around to her side, a bag in hand, he held her hand and lead her into his house. The first thing she thought about was that Chloe would also be there, then she remembered that she would be at work.
She followed Greg as he led her through series of halls and halls, she passed that sitting room again. Her heart clustered in her chest as she saw the room, it was closed now.
"This will be your room," Greg said when they got to the front of a white door. He opened the door slowly, her face split up into a smile when she saw what was in her front.
Nora stood in the middle of the room, decorating the four poster bed with some flowers. Immediately Nora heard the door open she stood up straight. Nora ran towards Ashley with a huge smile.
"Ashley," she screamed, pulling her into a hug, "I missed you, I'm so sorry about your accident." She pulled out of the hug. Nora turned to face Greg who had a smile on his face, Ashley could tell that this was the surprise he was talking about.
"Thanks Nora," she said happily. Ashley could say that this was the first time she was genuinely happy after the accident occurred, she was glad that Greg had brought Nora home. The girl looked a lot better since the last time she had seen her, her blue eyes had life now. She was still a bit skinny, but better than before, and oh lord she looked more gorgeous than anything else.
"Come on we have a lot of things to do. Oh I have met Chloe, believe me she is the sweetest person in the world," Nora said with giddiness dragging her to the bed that was to be Ashley's bed from now on. "Are you still here Greg?" Nora raised her eye brow at Greg. Greg's face scrunch up with annoyance, but he left them alone all the Same.
"So, you met Chloe?" Ashley asked with a smile.
"Oh yes, and I love her!" Nora exclaimed.
And that was the beginning of their long convo.

Ashley turned around on the bed, trashing about. Her breathing was laboured as she felt herself drifting in and out of sleep. She saw Greg's eyes look up at her with hatred from where he knelt, she saw him got up and stalked towards...she was really scared, then her salvation came when she saw her father, but that salvation vanished when he turned his back on her, leaving her...
"Father no, please don't go..." she called out to him to stop him from going, but he left her all the same, "please father, I can't do this alone."
Her salvation returned when she heard her father's voice calling out to her, "I'm here Ashley, its okay now, I'm here." The only problem was that it didn't sound like her father's voice. She felt someone jerk her lightly, then she opened her eyes sharply to see Greg's green eyes. She shifted back with fear sitting up, scared of what he would do to her now that he had caught her.
It wasn't until when she saw Greg's face morphed into that of pain before she realized that it was all a dream, it had felt so real, and she really thought Greg was going to kill her for what she did.
"Ashley are you okay?" Greg asked. He sat closer to her on the bed, pulling her closer to him. She didn't know if she should pull away from him or stay put. She decided on the latter when she felt herself calming down, "I came in to check up on you and saw you moving about on your bed, do you wanna talk about it?" Concern filled his voice, she soon felt tears pricking at her eyes.
"Its my father," she said breaking into a sob. She decided she was going to tell him what he needed to hear, maybe not all.
"Your father?" He asked confused.
"Yes, the person who had been threatening me is my father, he was the one who hit me with his car. And he was the man I saw at Spain, the one who had me all scared and..."
"Fucking bastard!" Greg said underneath his breath. She broke out crying then, not able to hold it in anymore.
She was really tired of everything, she just wished that night never happened. She wished she wasn't even born at all. She felt choked, she couldn't cope with any of this anymore.
"Hey Ashley," Greg called pulling her closer to his chest. He ran his hand through her hair soothingly, "don't cry, I'm here, and I promise that I will find that man and get him behind bars for what he did, just don't cry. I don't like it when you do."
She snuggled closer to him, sobbing more into his chest, luckily for him he was wearing a t-shirt if not he would have snorts all over his chest by now.
"I will take away your fears Ashley, everything that seems to be haunting you," he said with promise in his tone.
The only thing she did was cry harder because there was no taking her fears away, he was her biggest fear, and she couldn't escape it, karma was indeed a bitch.
