Chapter 6- I Wanted You But Not Like This
I guess I'll write one or two more chapters before epilogue since Rakshit too deserve to be happy.
Rakshit-
A week had passed but there were still no traces of Vicky. Drishti had been crying since morning while everyone was trying to calm her down. Sargun was in my arms since Vicky's father was out to buy her diapers.
Drishti(crying):- ek mahina ho gaya hai Rakshit. Vicky kyu nahi aya?
Rakshit:- chup jo jao Drishti. Rone se kuch nahi hoga. Chalo pani pee lo.
As I handed Romi a sleeping Sargun I picked a glass of water and lifted it to her lips. She threw the glass in frustration and yelled that she just wanted her husband hurt. As much as that hurt it wasn't the same dying feeling. I was a part of her life now.
The breaking part was that Drishti was crying non stop and there seemed to be no stopping her.
Rakshit:- Drishti kam se kam pani to pee lo. Dekho tumne kuch khaya bhi nahi hai. Chalo. Ab chup chap ye pani pee lo.
I took another glass and sat beside her, holding her from the side. She looked at me innocently and drank the water from my hands.
Divya who had been staying with her sister since Vicky was lost took Sargun to put her to sleep. Romi went to attend a phone call which could be something related to Vicky or maybe not. Rohan (Vicky's brother) was in another city investigating with the police to find his brother and Kaira went with him.
Drishti rested her head on my shoulder and held my hand for comfort. Tried from the continuous crying she stared blankly at the wall and yawned.
Drishti:- What will I do now? Where is my Vicky? Where is he Rakshit? Kaha hai vo! Vo itna time kabhi ghar se dur nahi raha. Rakshit agar use kuch ho gaya to?
Rakshit:- chinta mat karo Drishti. Me le ke aunga tumhare pati ko. I promise.
She lifted her head and gave me a heartbreaking look. Her hand lifted to my face and cupped it wiping off the tear from my cheek. She stayed silent for the next few minutes and bowed her head again.
Drishti:- itna pyar krte ho mujhe? Ki mere lea itna dard seh rahe ho.
I flinched. She was right. Finding her husband wasn't a easy task emotionally but I couldn't see her cry. She deserved all that happiness he gave her.
Even if a part of my heart jumped in excitement thinking I would somehow have more importance in her life and would be there to hold her hand when she needed me, another part was ashamed to be happy when she smiled.
A little hope of Sargun being Sargun Shergill flashed in my heart. Drishti being mine rose. But Vicky was coming back. I was just consoling myself.
Rakshit:- karta tha. Karta hun. Aur age bhi krta rahunga.
Drishti:- Kaise dekh lete ho mujhe uske sath har roz?
Rakshit:- mein sirf tumhari muskan dekhta hun Drishti. Baki sab mere lea maine nahi rakhta.
She went silent and yawned after a few minutes. She lifted her feet off the groud and settled them on the bed. It was good that we became friends, best friends more accurately so she was comfortable with me.
Drishti:- Rakshit?
I hummed in response and caressed her hair while keeping my chin on her head.
Drishti:- mein thodi der so jau?
Rakshit:- ofcourse
She hummed and placed her head in my lap. Ofcourse she would be tired after all she did for finding her husband. I kissed her forehead and caressed her forehead till she slept.
I promise that I'll bring back your husband Drishti. I will.
Drishti- (POV)
Vicky was missing and it had been more than a month since we got any news in his case. Dad was taking care of Sargun all the time while Romi was holding the business for him as instructed by dad. Others were busy finding him.
The person who did the most was the one who would be hurt the most when we would find Vicky.
Yestarday too Rakshit came home late at night after tracking down where Vicky went when he was last seen. Rakshit was doing so much for me, knowing that it was hurting him but all he cared for now was my feelings.
He had changed a lot, but it was late, right?
He came back all tired around 2 am and I helped him get to his bed. He skipped his dinner due to the heavy sleep trying to shut his eyes and laid peacefully on the bed.
As he was fast asleep I sat beside him and cupped his face in adoration. He changed a lot, he loves me a lot, he didn't care of the pain he was getting but stayed because of me.
Only if time could be reversed and he felt the same when it was needed, we could've been together. But now my life was Vicky and my Sargun. Rakshit still being a part somewhere. All the years I merely thought of him, and then he showed up in that state turning all my attention to him.
Good that we became friends or the guilt would have consumed me.
I loved Vicky though, and nothing would change that. Sighing at the thoughts and his pain, I kissed his forehead last night and went back.
Currently I was in the kitchen, making lunch for dad when the doorbell rang. Like everyday I ran to open it with the hope of finding Vicky standing in front of me. Mentally preparing myself for the disappointment.
No one's POV
Drishti opened the door in excitement and saw Rakshit standing in front of her with a sad face. She sighed and turned back to go to kitchen when he held her shoulders and pulled her outside the house.
Drishti:- Rakshit ye tum kya kar rahe ho?
He turned her towards the garden where she froze seeing Vicky standing in the middle of the garden and smiling at her. She yelled his name in joy and ran to meet him. As she jumped in his arms, she kissed him and cried tears of joy on having him back.
Rakshit looked at her with tears and closed his eyes seeing there love and knowing what heartbreak was waiting for her. He had found Vicky two days ago and told everyone but Drishti shat had happened. Nobody talked to her about it but she needes to know.
Well the kiss would've broken him but all he saw was the emotional damage Drishti would be facing.
Drishti:- Vicky kaha the tum? Pata hai mein kitni pareshan ho gai thi! Tumhe zara bhi andaza hai ki mein kitna dar gai thi!
She cried in his arms while he sighed and rubbed her back. Vicky was a complete man and he didn't want to hurt her by breaking the news to her but he wanted to meet her.
But seeing her happiness, he stopped. He wanted to spend the day with his love being happy, so he stood silent and let Rakshit play along.
That day they celebrated. Even if Drishti saw everyone's mood was off she was more concentrated on Vicky who seemed to be enjoying. With a heavy heart Rakshit helped making all the preparations Vicky asked him to make for his date and watched them leave hand in hand.
Rakshit:- Drishti ko takat dena bhagwan.
Drishti and Vicky spent that time and the night together, romancing around and getting closer after the long time. Rakshit knew what was happening and smiled sadly at his fate.
They returned in the morning and Drishti was blushing, smiling and what not. As soon as they reached home, Vicky took the wrong turn and lead her somewhere else. She didn't resist till she saw where they were.
It was a hosital, but why did they come here? Vicky gave her no reply and asked her to follow her. They reached a room where everyone close to them stood and were half in tears.
Drishti:- Vicky ye sab kya hai? Hum yaha kyu ae hain?
Vicky:- Drishti
Drishti:- kya hua?
She panicked when he held her shoulders and kissed her forehead, admiring her as if he wouldn't be seeing her again.
Vicky:- mein mar raha hun.
And she shattered.
She pushed him in shock and would have fallen down if not for Rakshit holding her at the point.
Drishti:- kya?
Tears started flowing down her face as he replied he went into a partial coma due to an accident because he wasn't feeling well and when he woke up he came to know it was because of a disease that was slowly killing him. He had a few days left. He also told how he had no intentions of returning but came back to see her for the last time.
Vicky:- mein tumhe rota hua nahi dekh skta Drishti. Islea kal nahi bataya. Mein apne akhri din tumhare sath khush hote hue bitana chahta tha. Taki mrte hue tumhe hasta dekh kar mere dil ko ek sukoon mile.
He took her in his arms and kissed her forehead as she was about to faint.
Vicky:- hamari kahani yahi tak thi Drishti. Sirf yahi tak. I love you Drishti.
Drishti (crying madly):- Vicky nai. Mujhe chodke mat jao. Sirf tum hi to ho jisne us samay mujhe us dukh se nikala. Mujhe srai khushiyan di. Vicky mat jao na. I love you. Tumhe pata hai na mein tumhare sath rehna chahti hun.
Vicky:- ye mumkin nahi hai Drishti.
Drishti:- mere bare mein to socho. Hamari Sargun ke bare mein socho. Vicky hume tumhari zarurat hai. Kujhe tumhari zarurat hai.
Everyone cried at the way she begged him to stay, falling at her feet and crying. Vicky cried and so did Rakshit. And suddenly Vicky fell down on the ground. They called the doctor who took him the emergency ward. When he returned he told them to say their last goodbyes because Vicky had a little time left.
All were shocked but went to meet their beloved for the last one time. Vicky smiled as he saw them and hugged Drishti who was crying on his chest. All of them bade their goodbyes and in his final breath Vicky called Rakshit and Drishti near him.
Vicky:- Rakshit nera ek kam karoge?
Rakshit:- han hol Vicky
Vicky:- meri Drishti ka khayal rakhoge?
Rakshit:- mrte dam tak rakhunga yar.
Vicky:- mera matlab hai shadi krke.
This left everyone shocked, especially Drishti who didn't see it coming. Vicky's dad however had the idea his son would know what was best for them.
Drishti(shocked):- ye kya keh rahe ho tum Vicky?
Rakshit:- han yar. Mein kaise?
Vicky:- Rakshit, Drishti, dekho. Ye meri akhri icha hai. Mein ja to raha hu but jate jate apni Drishti aur apni beti ki khushi dekhna chahta hun. Mujhe pata hai ki tumhare ilawa inhe itna khush koi nahi rakh skta. Jis tarah tumne meri Drishti se pyar kia hai, koi aur karega? Jis tarah Sargun ka khayal tumne rakha hai, koi aur rakhega?
Rakshit:- Vicky mein-
Drishti:- Vicky aisa mat bolo. Mein sirf tumhare sath rehna chahti hun. Mein tumse pyar krti hun Vicky.
Vicky(smiling):- pyar to tum apne parivar se bhi krti ko. Par vo sacha pyar jo kisi aur se hota hai, Drishti vo mein nahi, vo Rakshit hai tumhare lea. Vo vala pyar bas ek var hi hota hai. Aur vo tumhe ho gaya tha. Mujhse tumne sacha pyar hi kia par vo to tumne apne bhai behn aur papa se bhi kiya hai na?
Drishti:- Vicky
Vicky:- tumhe meri kasam Drishti. Ye meri akhri icha hai. Kya mrte hue mujhe itni bhi khushi nai de skti?
He managed to convince them. In front of his eyes he witnessed Rakshit filling her hairline and tying a nuptial chain around her neck. He took his last breath, smiling at them.
Rakshit(pov)- I wanted you Drishti. But not like this
