~ Pilot was the only episode to be filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. The rest of the episodes have been filmed in Covington, Georgia (which doubles as the fictional small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia) and various other communities around Greater Atlanta, to take advantage of local tax incentives.

~ In Pilot, according to Elena's phone when she's reading Bonnie's text, the date displayed on the phone says September 7, 2009, which is a Monday. Thus the first episode takes place over a 3 day period, Sept 6-8,2009.

~ According to Paul Wesley, he was cast less than two weeks before shooting began in Vancouver. Upon winning the role, he went immediately to a book store and bought and read the series.

~ Nina Dobrev said the showrunners gave the entire cast journals to chronicle their experience during the Vancouver shoot.

~ Director Marcos Siega asked his Twitter followers for music suggestions during the editing of Pilot.

~ In screener copies of Pilot, "Panic Switch" by Silversun Pickups is used in the opening scene, but the show was unable to get clearance for air. "Sort Of" by Silversun Pickups was used instead.

~ In Pilot, the scene where Elena Gilbert and Bonnie Bennett are together in the car, a crew member was crouched down behind the back seat.

~ Kat Graham ran through a stop sign in the opening scene of Pilot when she's with Nina in the car.

~ The scene where Elena catches Jeremy trying to hide the fact he did drugs in Pilot, was filmed at 2:00 in the morning.

~ Friday Night Bites is the first episode in the series in which a regular character does not appear.

~ The scene in Friday Night Bites where Stefan answers the history teacher's questions bears some similarities to a scene in "Damien: Omen II (1978)".

~ Family Ties is the first episode where no one dies.

~ In Lost Girls, Kevin Williamson originally didn't want to include flashback episodes, however Julie Plec brought him around to the idea, mainly because Nina Dobrev really wanted to portray Katherine Pierce.

~ Lost Girls is Nina Dobrev's all time favorite episode.

~ Stefan's last name in the show was originally going to be "Whitmore" because it sounded American. Although, it was kept as "Salvatore" instead, which is Stefan's surname in the novels and Italian for "Savior".

~ Due to legal conflict, the town was named "Mystic Falls", instead of "Fell's Church" like in the novels. This is because there's a Fall's Church, VA and the town names are similar.

~ The population of Mystic Falls is 6,923

~ Mystic Falls is located between Lynchburg, Virginia and Charlottesville, Virginia, according to the map on the episode Rose. Amusingly, in the vicinity of where Mystic Falls is shown on the map, there is an unincorporated community named Damon.
