11. guys, i can understand you

The doctor had not yet allowed Izuku to touch the subjects, he didn't know enough and even if his theories were worth some thoughts, it was risky to just go right into it.

He had, though, taken off his cast and told him to take it slow for a while. He had added that he would start working out a bit if he wanted to stop looking like a twig. He apparently looked like something you should step on just to hear the crack. The hair didn't help apparently with the metaphor.

After that, he had given Izuku a bunch of projects and questions to answer, just to see what he could do with it. He also gave him access to the folders on each of the nomus or nomus-to-be.

Some were uninteresting, for now at least. A weak quirk with a low potential but which could be enhanced with the right means. Boring people, boring life, death by sickness, car accidents, suicide, all dead prematurely in one way or another. It was sad to see the life they could have had.

Some were more interesting. Quirks already strong enough to be used by themselves, supposedly made for grand projects.

The nomu on which the doctor was working currently, the anti-All Might as everyone called it, was a mix of a lot of strong quirks all enhanced and working well together. Izuku wasn't sure of the project but he thought that, if played correctly, the nomu had a shot at actually killing All Might, if not then hurt him badly.

But there were two individuals who shocked him badly as he was looking through all of it.

One was one of his old bullies. He had a wing quirk, used to hang out with Kacchan until he disappeared and no one knew where he went. The teacher had simply said that he had moved away and won't come back, some sort of euphemism to protect kids because the folder read 'villain attack' on the cause of death. Izuku had felt a twinge of satisfaction when he saw the wounds that occurred before his death, a reminder of what he himself had been through because of the kid.

Izuku didn't have great memories of this kid, but it was, ...weird to see him there, floating in his liquid, looking so peaceful in death, far more than in life, freezed in his childhood. Izuku was older now, but the boy's face hadn't changed at all since the last time he saw him.

The other one was Kurogiri.

He had been curious about what Tomura meant by saying that the mist-man had been 'made' for some purpose and had used the lab as an opportunity to pry some answer.

He had feared it and he realized now that his theory was true. It explained at least some of the odd behavior from the man. (The nomu? Izuku didn't think he could think of Kurogiri as anything but a man.) How he would sometimes do nothing else than clean and clean over and over again, as if waiting for orders, or like when he tried immediately to answer any demands, the way he answered some questions.

His name, from the original body, was Oboro Shikarumo, a teenager dead during a villain attack with a cloud-like quirk. The details of his life weren't there but Izuku would have liked to know whether or not the personality of Shikarumo affected Kurogiri's. He didn't really know how they brought the bodies back from the dead but if it included anything with the brain, he might find something in Kurogiri's behavior. (That would be something to look up later if they could actually resurrect people). This was some Frankenstein kind of thing and Mary Shelley would have been probably both proud and terrified of what was going on in the world.

Kurogiri had indeed been made with intent. His job seemed to be, from what Izuku saw on the folder, to take care of Tomura and help him in his endeavors, to protect him and basically raise him.

Sensei, instead of paying for a babysitter, made one.

But Kurogiri was nothing like the other nomus they were trying to create. The Doctor called it a failure, his creation had a mind of his own, though he would still follow orders, but Kurogiri was too much of a man to be anything more than a waste to his creator. Sensei had found another purpose than simply following orders. And Izuku was glad because Kurogiri was caring, and kind, at least to him and Tomura. He took care of them, he raised and taught baby Tomura alone, he held a place in his friend's life that was so important. Izuku was grateful he had been there and hadn't left his friend alone, lost in a sea of loneliness and in the presence of the strange man that Sensei was.

Not many things were hidden from him but he didn't have access to a few nomus project ideas, there was still no corpse for them and Izuku decided to put the thing aside until later when he might become more pressing, as well as Sensei's medical report.

The fact that it was heavily guarded wasn't much of a surprise. If this got out, Sensei would be in great danger. But Izuku was curious about the man's quirk and wanted to ask so many questions. (He didn't dare, seeing that the man was so intimidating and, even if he liked him, could kill him in seconds.) He had hoped to find answers in the files but didn't. He would one day, even if he had to hack the damn thing, but he would find answers. Izuku was on their side after all, and they were on his. What's a little information sharing between friends?

Izuku was mulling over a 3-D structure of one of the nomu-to-be's DNA, trying to figure out more about the quirk-gene and how to tell the effect of it when Kurogiri came and announced Giran waiting for him.

When he stepped in the bar, Giran was once more sitting with a drink. He was carefully keeping an eye on Tomura, who decided to join and was waiting in his booth. Seeing Izuku coming in, Giran used it as an excuse to stand up and open his arm, a bright smile on his face.

"Guidance! Fantastic. Your little friend here was starting to make me feel unwelcome."

"Because you are," was all Tomura said before standing up and moving toward the back door. "I don't understand why you chose Guidance as a name."

"Well, I need something to go by other than my actual name. Can't go around telling everyone my identity."

"Guidance, let's have this discussion later, would you, Giran is waiting," Sensei suddenly said out of the speaker.

Izuku shut up and eyed his friend with curiosity. Maybe his name wasn't the real one? He'd have to ask later. Instead, he turned back toward Giran as Tomura disappeared behind his door.

"What did you want?"

"La Brava's payment. She's also telling you to check on your computer when you can, she sent you some 'homework' apparently. And I came to bring you to the two inventors who work with me on the black market."

"Well then, let's start."

He was brought to some unknown part of the city, walking in dark alleys and taking dozens of turns. Giran most likely wanted to lose him and make sure he didn't know how to get there on his own until the inventors' agreement. Jokes on him, he was actually wearing a bracelet to trace his location, just as Tomura did, to help Kurogiri find him more easily when he asked for a ride. He had programmed the thing himself and could pass most security walls. (You never know, you might get kidnapped.)

Tomura had complained when he said he was too old for a friendship bracelet but agreed when Izuku made a pretty good argument. Aka comparing the bracelet to a bonus item to give them advantage during a surprise attack.

D&D refs were something the both of them could actually use to talk when Tomura struggled to understand Izuku's way of thinking. The green teen wasn't proficient in video games enough to explain any other way.

They ended up entering by some back door a tall building.

Izuku thought Giran was even more stupid. He actually knew this part of the city pretty well, even more the dark alleys (running from bullies would do that sometimes) and he couldn't believe they were about to go into one of the most important support agencies of the country. No wonder most villains' and vigilantes' items and costumes were so good. They were the same as the heroes!

Izuku tried his best to not mumble. It would give his game away and, as Tomura said, his Charisma would be better if he gained more confidence and stopped being afraid of doing things.

Here he was Guidance. He could go in, learn, and go out without having to panic about anything, or to overthink and then if need be, he could panic at home or at the bar. Here, he could and would just be Guidance who was smart, and quick and who tended to impress people more than anything.

They entered and Giran kept on going through a maze of corridors.

After some time, Izuku didn't really know where exactly they were at this point, they stopped in front of a double door, closed by some technology. Giran entered a code, smiled at Izuku and invited it to go ahead. "They should bring you back themselves. They're not known to be violent."

And then he was gone. The doors closed behind him, abandoning him in a long corridor. A few doors were closed on each side of the walls, and Izuku made his way straight up. It wasn't decorated, and rather cold, the walls were white and the doors gray.

He stopped in front of the door, and looked at the window which opened in the next room.

There, he saw the two heads of the company Gambit Industry.

Mitsuka and Tenjiro Kasumi, identical twins with identical quirks, graduates of UA and working in the support industry for a bit more than a decade. They looked just as fresh out of school as they did ten years ago. Both had bi colored hair, black and white, even if each were reversed from the other. Mitsuka, the eldest sister, had white on the left side of her head, and black on the other while her brother, Tenjiro, was her mirror. They were wearing rumpled suits and their iconic gloves, black and white matching their sibling's hair, were left somewhere else in the room. They both stood in front of some machine and a blueprint, until Mitsuka's head snapped up and looked right at Izuku.

She said something he didn't hear and then the brother was also looking at him. He smiled brightly, picked up and slipped on his gloves before coming to the door.

He opened it, welcoming Izuku to a loud world of creations and chaos.

Blueprints were lying on many tables, a few on the floor, prototypes and scraps were everywhere else and the walls were covered by screens, notes and drawings.

"Hello, there. Guidance, right?" Tenjirou asked with enthusiasm.

His sister already went to work on something else, her back turned to Izuku and her brother.

"Yes. That would be me. I didn't you would be the ones to, hum, teach me? I was unaware of your connection to Giran."

"Well," Tenjirou slipped an arm around Izuku's shoulders. It looked kind of stupid because the teen was far smaller than the man but he didn't say a word and followed. "We would like it to stay a secret. You see, Giran pays well and finds good and interesting jobs. You know how boring it is to deal with all the Hero Commission, the paperwork, the media, and always the same kind of heroes. Boring really. Giran spices things up. And look, he found us an apprentice." He ruffled his hair before letting go of Izuku. "Of course, this must stay between us. And Giran. Alright?"

"Sure. I just want to learn."

Tenjirou had brought Izuku to the table where he was working previously. The green kid glanced at the blueprint in front of him, not knowing what he was exactly looking at. At least he could learn.

"What's the idea kid? What do you wanna do? We can dismantle a microwave and see what we could make of it. What's the project?"

He noticed how the two siblings were tapping on their tables by turn. He concentrated and figured after a second that they were exchanging in morse code. Currently, they were making remarks on his hair. (What was wrong with it?)

"I want to go to UA."

Both siblings kind of froze, Mitsuka even glanced at him from her desk.

"Why would a UA wannabe come to us from Giran?" Tenjirou asked suspiciously.

"I just want to learn enough to get into the support course. Or maybe a bit more, just to be ready. UA offers the best education and it must be interesting."

"Not that much, if you're not in the hero course."

The tapping kept on going, to be careful with the info, to make sure I wasn't there for an investigation. Izuku had to be careful or they wouldn't trust him.

"I just think UA would give me the best shot for later. I'm just really an opportunist. I asked Giran the people who would teach me, he found you. I'd like to keep my connection to him secret just as much as you."

They gave each other a meaningful glance before agreeing to keep an eye on him but keep on going with the 'teaching twerp' plans. (That was just rude to be rude honestly. Did no one understand morse code where they worked?)

"Sure, alright. Well, I'm Tenjiro, this is Mitsuka, we're the bosses of Gambit Industry, yada yada. Now tell me, what do you do?"

"I-" Izuku wasn't sure what the question meant. "I can program alright."

"That's it?"

"Believe it or not, I actually came here to learn, not to show off."

Tenjiro quirked a brow before laughing.

"I think I'll like you. Come on, let's get started."
