Epilogue
About a day later, Gamora was standing on a balcony when Groot came up behind her. "I am Groot." He said. "Thanks. Just tell them I'm gonna be right..." she said as she turns to see it was Groot, but she could've sworn it was someone who spoke English. Groot fiddles with his fingers and smiles, shyly. "I am Groot." He said and Gamora was stunned for a moment before she smiles. "Yeah. It was good working with you, too." She said and she walks up, pats his shoulder and walks off.
"Hey, Gamora. Are you ready?" A Ravager asked as she walks up to the spaceport and sees (y/n) and Peter, who now looks back to normal. "Yeah." She tells the Ravager then chuckles softly as Peter and (y/n) walk up to her. "You know, I'm still not who you two want me to be." She said. "We know." Peter said. "But who you are ain't so bad." (Y/n) said, smiling as she has her arms folded across her chest.
Gamora smiles then walks pass the duo before she stops then turns to them. "I do remember, you know?" She said and (y/n) and Peter turn to her. "That you gave my name to your daughter's middle name. And I'm still honored that you did." She said and (y/n) gives a small smile. "And...I bet we had fun as friends." Gamora said. "Like you wouldn't believe." (Y/n) said and Gamora nods then turns away and smiles to herself before she walks towards the Ravager ship.
Nebula walks past her, grunts a bye to her and she grunts a bye back. "You guys okay?" Nebula asked as Gamora boards her ship. Peter and (y/n) share a look before Peter places an arm around (y/n)'s waist then looks at Nebula. "I think we need to talk to everybody." Peter said and (y/n) gives a sad nod.
"So, you guys are gonna leave?" Rocket asked Peter and (y/n) after Nebula got the Guardians gathered at the bar. "My mother died in front of me when I was eight years old, and I have been running ever since. I've also got a daughter who needs a normal life." Peter said as he looks down at Meredith and places an arm around her shoulder as she hugs up to him and Rocket frowns. "And I should've listened to my wife sooner. We're gonna need to take some time...and learn how to swim." Peter said as he looks at Mantis, who smiles.
"I as well." She said and everyone looks at her, surprised. "I love you all. I do. But my whole life i did whatever Ego wanted, and then, I did whatever the Guardians wanted. I need to go out and discover what I want." Mantis admits. "I'll come with you." Drax said. "No, Drax. That's the whole point." She said.
"But you need someone to protect you." Drax said. "I don't." Mantis argues, shaking her head. "Not in a bad way. Just because of your incredible weakness." Drax said. "Oh, my gosh, you're so frustrating!" Mantis said, annoyed. "Drax." Nebula said and Drax turns to her. "I need you here. We're building a new society. I need all the support I can get for those children out there." Nebula said and Drax gives her a tearful look.
"Today, I saw who you are. You weren't born to be a destroyer. You were born to be a dad." Nebula said and Drax chokes up a bit then nods. "So, you'll lead the Guardians then?" Rocket asked Nebula. "No. I'm gonna lead the city, make it the type if home I never had." Nebula said and Peter and (y/n) nods.
"So, that's it? The group's over?" Rocket asked, upset. "No. Well, the Galaxy still needs its Guardians. And you will make a better leader than Pete and I ever was, Cap'n." (Y/n) said to Rocket, who was surprised by this. Then (y/n) takes her right arm, balled her hands in a fist and pounds her fist against her chest twice. Peter does the same as does Meredith, Mantis, Drax, Nebula and Groot as they all look at Rocket.
"I love you, guys." Groot said as he loos around at his friends.
Peter, (y/n) and Meredith, all wearing normal human clothes, walk along the streets of Pete's and (y/n)'s old neighborhood. Meredith was walking between her parents and grabs both of their hands and started to swing them back and forth.
Peter and (y/n) chuckle at this then they go and raise her up in the air by her hands. She giggles at this and they set her down and let go of her hands when they come upon an old familiar house. "There it is." Peter whispers as they stop and stare at the house.
(Y/n) looks over at Peter and places a hand on his back. "You okay?" She asked him and he nods then they make their way to the house. "Doesn't look like it's changed much." (Y/n) mutters as they get to the door and Peter knocks on it.
The door opens to reveal an older African American woman. "I think we might be at the wrong, uh...we're looking for Jason Quill." Peter said and the woman smiles. "Uh, yes. Come in." She said as she steps aside and let's the trio in.
As they walk in the house, Peter and (y/n) immediately noticed pictures of Peter and his mom on the wall and even a few with (y/n) in them. The woman leads them into the back of the house to an open door that leads to the backyard.
There Jason Quill was sitting at the table, reading a newspaper. He looks up and was surprised to see Peter and (y/n). "Pete? (Y/n)?" He said and he takes his glasses off and goes to stand up as Peter walks over to him. "Pete" Jason cries then he and Peter begin to hug. "Hi, grandpa." Peter said as his grandpa cries into Peter's shoulder.
"It's really you!" He cried as he pulls back and look up at his grandson. Then he looks over at (y/n). "And (y/n), my God!" He said and he hugs her as well. "Hey, Mr Quill." She said as she hugs him back.
Once Jason pulls back from the embrace he looks over at Meredith and seemed surprised to see her. "Oh, hello. Who is this?" Jason asked. "Uh, grandpa, this is our daughter....Meredith." Peter introduced and Jason gasped looks at Peter then at (y/n) before looking at Meredith.
"Hi, great-grandpa." She greets as Jason walks up to her and looks at her. "She looks like your mother." Jason said to Peter then he smiles at Meredith. "Hey, kiddo." He said and she goes to hug him and he starts to cry again.
The next day, (y/n) and Peter walk down the street of the neighborhood and headed to her old house. Meredith stayed with Jason to bond with her great-grandfather. "How are you feeling?" Peter asked (y/n) as they come up to her old home, which looked like it did get worked on a bit.
"Honestly, I'm not sure. I mean, he was a mean ol' bastard and...I don't know if he even realized I was gone. Or if he did, he celebrated." (Y/n) said and she looks down. "Maybe this was a mistake." She mutters and Peter places a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it'll be okay. You were always there for me, now it's my turn to be there for you." He said and she smiles up at him then kissed his cheek.
They walk up to the house and (y/n) sighs, heavily, as they approach the door. "Here we go." She whispers and she knocks on the door. For a moment, there was no answer and (y/n) felt her heart beat hard against her throat.
But there continues to be no answer and Peter and (y/n) share a look before Peter goes up to the window and looks through it. "Looks empty." He said and (y/n) frowns. "Hmm." She hums, sadly, when a voice calls out to them. "Can I help you two?"
They look over and see an older woman standing on the porch of the house next door. "Oh, uh...we were looking for Robert (l/n). Does he still live here?" (Y/n) asked the lady. "Oh, I'm sorry, ma'am but he passed away years ago." The woman replied and (y/n)'s jaw drops a bit at this.
"He's dead? How?" Peter asked after a few moments of silence. "I believe that he drank himself to death. He had spent a few years trying to find his daughter that went missing decades ago. Eventually, he went bankrupt and the police stopped looking and so did the people. And then one day, he was found, by a friend of his, dead on the floor of his home." The woman explained and (y/n) looks down.
"Don't mean to be nosy but...who are...or were...you two to him?" The lady asked, curiously, and (y/n) looks up at her. "I'm the missing daughter he was looking for." (Y/n) said and the lady's eyes widen. "Oh...oh my..." she mutters, surprised, as (y/n) sighs and Peter places an arm around her. "Honey, I am so sorry." The lady said. "It's okay. Thanks for letting us know, ma'am." (Y/n) said and she walks away and Peter nods at the lady and follows after his wife.
"Hey, you okay?" Peter asked (y/n) and she stands there in silence. "I can't believe he's gone." She mutters and Peter pulls her to his side. "I-I-I don't even know how to feel or what to say." (Y/n) said and Peter nods. "It's okay. I know how that feels. That's how I felt when I first met Ego." Peter said and (y/n) nods a bit.
"Can we go home?" (Y/n) asked and Peter nods and they started to leave.
That night, Peter and (y/n) were in bed but Peter was the only one that was asleep between the two of them. (Y/n) lays there and stares at the ceiling, thinking about her father. Sure he was an asshole to her but there were a few moments were he acted like a dad, however very short-lived. That's why she always loved going over to Peter's house when she was a kid, she felt loved and wanted there.
But hearing how he was trying his best to find her after she was abducted, it actually made her feel a bit mixed. Yeah, she wanted to see him just to maybe have a talk, get her emotions and thoughts out to her father, but with him gone...she felt empty. She had so many things to say to her father but now she'd never get to say them, get out how she felt during those years before she was abducted.
But now she can't tell him.
Suddenly, a wave of emotions wash over her and she turns over, her back to Peter, and curls up a bit and let's out a sob, a tear running down her face. Hearing a noise, Peter wakes up and tried to figure out what he heard then he realized it was crying. He looks over to his left and sees the outline of her figure from the streetlights shining through the window.
He could see her back and how her shoulder was shaking a bit. Then he hears the soft sobs from (y/n) and he frowns at this, his heart breaking at the sounds of her crying. He turns on his left side and wraps his arms around her and kisses the side of her head.
"I'm sorry, (y/n)." He whispers to her and she closes her eyes as more tears runs down her face. She turns over to face him then hugs him and he holds her and whispers comforting words to her until both of them fall asleep.
Early next morning, (y/n) wakes up then goes over to the desk in the room and pulls out a notebook from the drawer. She sighs and begins to write down all of her thoughts and feelings.
A Few Months Later
"I mean, if she needs help mowing her lawn, I'll do it, but I kinda feel like her son should help. He's gonna sit on the porch and watch me do it. Like, he's a 45-year-old man, able-bodied, and I'm mowing his lawn. It just feels weird." Peter rants as he eats the pancakes (y/n) made.
Meredith was at the table looking over her homework. "Mm-hmm. Don't get me started." Jason said to Peter as he looks away from his newspaper. "Really?" Peter asked. "Mm-hmm." Jason hums. "Now I kind of want to know." Peter said, smirking, as he continues to eat his breakfast.
"You are such a gossipy old woman." (Y/n) teased him as she sets a plate of pancakes down from Meredith. "Well, don't you agree, honey? A grown man should be mowing his mother's lawn, not me?" Peter asked her and she laughs. "Yes, I agree but that doesn't mean you should be asking the guy's personal life." (Y/n) said as she sets a plate for Jason, who kept looking up at the two and shakes his head, slightly, before he chortles. Then (y/n) grabs her own plate and sits next to Meredith, who digs into her breakfast, and the family of four enjoy their breakfast.
That night, (y/n) was sitting out in the backyard in the chair and looks up at the starry sky. She began to reminisce the time she spent up in space, her time as a Ravager with Peter, then becoming a Guardian of the Galaxy, helping the Avengers with Thanos, finding out she was a mom few weeks after the Snap then stepping up as a captain. All of the memories of those times made her smile, even the bad ones.
She hears footsteps and she looks over her shoulder to see Peter walking out. "Hey, there you are! Meredith is waiting for you to say goodnight. You okay?" Peter asked her as he walks up next to her. "Yeah, I'm fine...just...needed a moment." (Y/n) said and she looks back up at the stars and Peter does the same.
"You ever think about them?" (Y/n) asked him, curiously, and he looks over at her. "Drax, Nebula, Rocket, Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo?" She clarified. "All the time." He replied. "I miss them." (Y/n) said and Peter nods. "Yeah, me too." He mutters then he looks over at (y/n). "But I am happy to be back on Earth, getting into a normal life with you and Meredith, it's all worth it in the end." Peter said and the couple share a smile before he leans in and kisses her on the lips.
"I love you." He whispers and she smiles again. "I love you too." She said and she gives him a quick kiss on the lips before they look back up at the stars. She gets up from her chair after a few moments then turns to Peter. "Guess I better go say goodnight." She said and Peter smiles and she leans up and gives him one more kiss before heading inside.
Once she entered, Peter then looks up at the sky and hoped and prayed that the others were doing well and were keeping safe before he heads inside the house himself.
