Chapter Twenty-Six ~ Surprise...?
Two updates in one day?! What is this sorcery?
In all honesty there is (two) reasons why I updated early:
1. I wanted to share my finished drawing of Emiko (In media... lol I'm no professional so don't laugh at it okay?)
And the second reason? You'll see... *insert devious plot twist smirk here* I'm about to mess with you reallllll good.
~Chapter Twenty-Six~
Winter gripped the side of the tree as her vision sways, her eye widened just enough for the always aware Ja'far to notice. She gulped harshly as she struggled to make sense of what she just saw.
Red lightning. Air thick with electricity. Eien's eyes showing a storm.
"That's impossible. He..." Her mind flashes back to the image over and over. "The only way to have red lighting is if..." The words get stuck in her throat, her nails digging into the soft part of the tree creating thin gouges. "Impossible." Is all she whispers again feeling light headedness creep up on her.
"Winter, I know it may be hard to realize that there's another Ookami bu-" Jafar's words were cut off with a sharp tone, serrated to perfection.
"That's not it!" Her voice raises slightly and Ja'far frowns lightly in worry. "It's the red lightning baka! Think, think really hard Ja'far. The color of lightning you draw down from the heavens is either a mix of your parents or representative of one parent. And there was only one person in this entire village that had red lightning." His own face pales and he stares at her.
"There must be a mistake then..."
"The lightning color is never a mistake."
Winter takes deep breathes and straightens up, her eye hardening. "I'm going to find Eien." She doesn't wait for a response before hurtling into the nearby woods as thoughts clashed with one another. Her feet pounded relentlessly against the ground as she sprinted towards the tinted red chakra she could feel.
She spun around midair and landed in a crouch right in front of a startled Eien who'd been walking. He lets out a surprised squeak and tumbles backwards, barely regaining his balance. He felt his heart sink at the sight of Winter, immediately casting gaze anywhere but her face. He found himself staring down at her shoes... how do her shoes stay so clean? He wondered briefly as he looked at the spotless black sandals. "Tell me Eien you said you knew who your mother was... who is your father?"
He shifts and rubs the side of his arm nervously. "M-My father?"
"Don't make me repeat myself."
He had to admit, he nearly collapsed from the venom clear in her words. He cowered back and whispers a name. "Louder." He repeated it... still not able to be heard. "LOUDER DAMMIT!"
"Ah! MyfatherisSubarashiiOokami." He rushes the two words out, but Winter still flinches back as she hears the name. She stands up and starts shaking her head back and forth. She takes a few steps backwards and Eien casts a glance at her. He swallows thickly as he notices the pale expression, the white lightning flashes across her eye. He notices the way her jaw clenches as she struggles to accept the words.
"You're lying." Her voice breaks slightly. "Tell me you're lying. Eien please tell me you're lying. Or that this is a sick joke." Her lips press together into a thin line.
"I don't lie." He whispers, his hand straying to his ninja pouch making her muscles tense automatically. He doesn't pull out any weapons, instead pulling out a worn down blue journal that Winter immediately recognized. "I... I've been working up the courage to give this to you... my mother gave it to me... my real mother not the adopted mother I told you about before." He tosses it towards her and Winter catches it with the tips of her fingers. Her hands shake as she opens the first page.
This journal belongs to: Shiro Ookami
Winter hesitantly flips to the first page, her heart sinking each time she read the familiar handwriting.
Today I went to the doctor's seeing how I've been having mood swings. I'm pregnant! It's a miracle seeing how I was told after Aiden I wouldn't be able to carry another child. But here I am growing another life inside of me... I can't wait to tell Subarashii, I know he'll be ecstatic. In all honesty I hope this one's a girl, I'd love to have a little girl to pass on all my knowledge to. To dress up and teach the ways of being kunoichi. But another little boy would be nice as well, although I'd be outnumbered! I'll have to start brainstorming names right away. Oh! It looks like Aiden and Subarashii are home.
The entry ends there and Winter quickly flips through the other pages full of information of Shiro's pregnancy. She pauses on a particular page, gently guiding her finger along the words as she read it.
Eight months pregnant and they finally figured out that I'm carrying TWINS! One girl, one boy! Ahhh this is fantastic! Twins are just so adorable and they could be on the same team when they go to the academy. However I am a little worried... there hasn't been a pair of Ookami twins since this village was established. Usually the powers grow to unstable. Oh well I'm sure everything will be fine... now for twin names... hmm...
Winter starts to quickly flip through the pages now, searching for the one line she was both scared and wanting to find. She finds it, in the middle of a paragraph.
...two names that I love together are Yuki (for my mother) and Eien (which means eternity for the eternal element to storms). Together that makes Eternal Snow which I believe would be a wonderful pair of names for twins...
Her knees finally give way and she falls to the ground, staring blankly at the page. The page in her mother's handwriting, the handwriting she would try to copy day after day when learning to write, the handwriting that was in her mother's special journal that disappeared when she turned five. The journal that her mother never told anyone what was written inside. Because inside was truths that would shatter anything she, or Aiden, had believed.
"There's more." Eien whispers quietly, pushing his glasses up his nose with a hand that tremored violently. "There's a letter in the back addressed to you." Not trusting her voice Winter locates the letter and carefully unfurls it, the paper trembling in her grip.
My dearest Yuki,
If you are reading this letter it means I failed you as a mother. It means something tore us apart and I am no longer in your life. I know you must have so many questions but I can barely write this. You have a twin darling. His name is Eien and he lives with a half Ookami, half Fukushima woman who's a very close friend. There is a reason why your father and I decided to separate you two.
Twins are considered cursed in the Ookami clan.
It's simply because our natural affinity to storms is amplified with someone who nearly identical to you. You powers grow out of control, wild, and all around chaotic. We had your memory altered... but you and Eien started a tiny hurricane made out of lightning that engulfed you two. You couldn't control it, you couldn't stop it, and it took us quite some time to calm the two of you down.
You came out unscathed. Eien on the other hand... he was covered in second, and a few third, degree burns. It soon became obvious what was happening.
You got the calmer side of the storm, he got the wilder half. The more untamed half that should be balanced out by the calm, is instead infuriated with its presence in you. Therefore his power will be much, much harder to control. The longer to stay together, the more that wild storm will hunger to take back the calmness. So we gave him up, knowing that Aries would be able to help keep him from burning himself up from the inside out.
If you two are ever reunited then you'll start noticing a change. Your powers will grow, but they will also grow more violent. You must learn how to work together, to balance out one another's power, otherwise you'll only be a ticking time bomb.
To be honest it was a miracle both of you survived... after all you technically aren't supposed to exist. Generally the wilder side takes over the calmer... but don't worry about that. But just because I told you that doesn't mean you are inferior to anyone in any way. You are my miracle, my baby girl, and the best gift kami has ever sent me.
I love you darling.
xxMom
The journal falls to the ground along with the letter, Winter staring unblinkingly at Eien. He offers her a tentative smile.
"Surprise...?"
Plottwisttttttt. Hehe.
Fact: I originally planned to stop this book by having Winter return when Pain attacked, sacrificing herself in order to save Naruto. Bet you're glad I didn't do that ;)
What do you think of my drawing of Emiko?
p.s that gray stuff is supposed to be the mist she controls lol (the purple stuff are clouds xD aren't I such a great artist *insert sarcasm here*)
