'Where are you from?'
Hello lovelies! I hope you enjoy today's chapter and I'll see you at the end!
"Where exactly are you from?" Janus questioned the ma- Virgil.
Janus and Virgil had been sitting around the fire when Janus brought up the question as to how Virgil was creating walls of water. Virgil had just stared at Janus questionling, asking if humans had such things. This brought up the topic of where Virgil actually came from. Where ever he came from seemed to be a lot different than anything Janus had ever heard about.
"Why?" Virgil asked cautiously, his eyes narrowing sub-consciously.
Janus felt a pang of guilt. Had he offended his new friend in some way? Was he even their friend? Surly just because they had shared names they weren't friends. That was just proper edicate. But Janus still couldn't help but feel like he just ruined some kind of special trust between him and Virgil.
"I was just curious is all!" Janus put his hands up in a surrendering position.
Virgil's tense body relaxed, but his eyes stayed narrowed. A tail wrapped around- wait, a tail!? How had he missed that!? The tail was lined with black scales that shined different shades of red in light of the fire. The underside of his tail was bone white and looked dirty from dragging against the dirt. The end of his tail had a sharp end that looked particularly dangerous.
Janus looked closer at Virgil's un-human-like features. He began to realize that he had also missed Virgil's wings. He had originally thought Virgil's wings were just like bird wings, but they weren't.
The outside of the wings were a translucent black. The inside was lined with feathers. The feathers started black but changed to white the further out you looked. It looked like the translucent part of the wing was protecting the feathery underside.
Janus looked up at the male eyes to find that they weren't purple like he had originally thought. They were a dark brown, just like Logan's. This confused Janus. He was sure Virgil's eyes had been purple.
"Question, what color are your eyes?"
Virgil looked away from the fire and up at Janus.
"Brown, last time I checked, why?"
Janus eyebrows furrowed.
"But weren't they purple?"
Virgil nodded his head then began to explain.
"They turn violet sometimes, mainly when I use magic."
It hit Janus like a brick. This man wasn't human, he'd known that, but he had been too tired to fully assess it. This man was a magical being of the dark forest. Janus always imagined what it would be like to meet a creature of the forest, but in all of his imaginary scenarios it never went like this. That doesn't mean that all of his senariouse the creatures had been horrible monsters, though a lot of the time that was the case. He just imagined the creatures to be sort of... all knowing.
Virgil wasn't all knowing at all. He clearly knew little to nothing about human culture.
"You're from the dark forest, right?"
At the mention of the dark forest both Logan and Remus turned to them. At that moment it all clicked for them two. They were in the presence of a creature from the dark forest itself.
Virgil looked confused.
"The dark forest?' Virgil questioned, his head tilting to the side.
"You know, the forest guarded by a wall of thorns?" Janus asked.
"It's all dark and spooky?' Remus added.
Virgil's eyes widened as it finally clicked together in his brain. His moment of understanding passed quickly as another look of confusion crossed his face.
"Why do you call it 'the dark forest'?"
"Because it's a dark forest," Janus and Remus spoke at the same time.
Virgil let out a sigh, giving them a look that said 'seriously'.
"I get that, but why not call it by its proper name?"
It was know the other three turn to be confused. They had never heard of another name for the Dark forest before. Well, they had never asked an actual citizen of the forest what they called the forest.
"Well that is it's name. What do you call it?" Remus asked.
"Well Nefeli of course. Why didn't you give the forest a proper name?"
Remus opened his mouth to answer but shut after coming short of a reply. Why hadn't they named the forest? It was strange. Usually the kingdoms tried to name everything they could, but nobody had even tried to put a name on the forest. Everyone just called it 'the Dark forest, but that wasn't a proper name.
Logan seemed to think the same thing, but he came up with a proper answer.
"The forest was that of magic. No one wanted to name such a magical place."
Virgil seemed confused for a moment, but this time he was able to piece everything together. He let out a low hum as he looked back at the fire. He closed his eyes and whispered something that no one else could hear. He opened his eyes and they were a bright purple.
They were all mystified as they watched the fire sway in a slow waltz. Silhouettes of men and women danced in the bright flames.
Virgil's purple eyes turned back to their natural dark brown. The flames stopped their waltz and re-shaped to its natural form.
"How could someone hate something so beautiful..."
Janus's voice was soft and airy. He was still looking at the flames in a dazed way.
Remus chuckled, nudging Janus a couple times. Janus replayed what he had said and a dark blush coated his face.
"N-not you! I meant the magic! Not that your not pretty-"
Janus was cut off from his rant by soft laughter. Virgil's shoulders were shaking and he had a hand covering his mouth. Soon he could also hear Remus's maniacal laughter. Janus dropped his head, his face a crimson red.
The laughter died down, and Virgil rested his hand on Janus's shoulder. Janus looked up at Virgil.
"Don't worry I know what you meant."
Janus smiled up at Virgil, his face still red.
"We should be getting to bed, we have an early morning." Logan spoke, rising from where he had been sitting.
They all nodded there head in agreement, excluding Virgil. They walked over the horses and took out there sleeping supplies. Virgil stayed sitting by the fire as he watched everyone lay out their blankets. Remus came up to Virgil with a spare and held it out to him. Virgil politely declined.
They all laid down in their respective places while Virgil stayed next to the fire. Sleep came easy to all of them. After there day of running and being mentally challenged they were tired. While the three slept Virgil began to work.
1085 words not including theses
This chapter was a bit shorter than usually, but it still passes the minimum word count. I don't know if you know this, you probably won't if you didn't come from my other story, but each chapter has to have at least 1000 words before I can post it. I'm doing this to try and keep from doing lots of little parts like I did in my last story. Anywho, I hope you have a wonderful day, afternoon, or night! Until next time you beautiful beans!
Bye!
