Chap 8 : The Ambush

Pitch's eyes glinted under the seeping moonlight underground. His eyes, red instead of gold, just like the blood on the ground.

The Guardian of Nightmare stepped over the dead body, his tongue licking his long slender fingers, tasting the sweet blood on them.

"Oh how i yearned for this. The power, beyond imagines!" He cackled, wide face-splitting grin etched on his face.

One of his nightgaunts,- a deadlier kind of nightmares-, walks over to his side, growling like a feral beast instead of whinnying.

It seemed to be speaking, as it's muzzle was placed close to Pitch's ear, growling something softly and incoherently.

Pitch smiled even more widely, cackling again as black shadows raised from behind him, acting like chains of neverending darkness.

"We'll see my old friend, if your new Guardian could handle my army."

Above in the sky, the Moon glinted dangerously, as if accepting Pitch's challenge before returning back to his normal soft glow.

"Dammit Lee, why can't you just wake up?!" Jack growled, freezing yet another innocent elf as he paced around the room.

"Calm down 'ere mate. We all worried about 'im." Bunny snapped, finally fed up with the Guardian of Fun's antics.

Jack ignored him and keeps pacing.

"Jack, anymore walk and you're going create a hole on that floor." North supplied, not so helpfully as he crossed his large arms across his chest.

"I'll take my chances."

"Strewth, Jack. For the love of Motha' Nature, atleast stop! You're driving me nuts!" Bunny exclaimed in frustation.

Jack finally stopped. Still grumbling as he chooses to perch ontop of his staff instead.

"It's okay Jack. He's strong, he'll be fine.." Tooth smiled softly, fluttering beside him as she tries to give him comfort.

Infront of them, Sandy gave Jack two thumbs up, as if agreeing.

Jack sighs, closing his ice blue eyes.

"Honestly guys, i don't know.. Lee has been through a lot and.. well.." he bit his lip.

It's Leo's decision whether to tell them or not, not him.

"Well what Jack?"
Too late.

Said Guardian groaned mentally when he realised his mistake.

"Nothing. Nevermind." He said, sincerely hoping Bunny would let the subject drop.

And he did.

Just then, out of the corner of his eye..

Movements.

By instinct, Jack leaped off from his staff, all the while grabbing it before firing icicles towards the corner. Freezing one Nightmare.

Seeing that, all of the Guardians sprung into action.

Raids of the darkness creatures sprung out from the shadows. Their amounts are uncountable, as they lunged for the five Guardians.

"Ta Jack." Bunny said as the Winter Spirit froze one nightmare that had been creeping up behind the pookah's back. His boomerang flew to destroy five more before returning back to his paw.

Jack nodded. Leaping up and down to shoot more Nightmares, Tooth helping him a bit at some point.

'This doesn't seem right..' Jack thought as he shot icicles at three Nightmares behind Sandy.

'These.. things.. they are weaker than the ones before-.. oh no.' His face contorted into the look of pure horror when he realised what the Guardian of Fear wanted.

"North! They're after Leo!"

Said Guardian cussed in Russian before slicing through two Nightmares. Tooth pressing up to his back.

"Jack! Go!"

He didn't need to be told twice, the Guardian of Fun is already on his feet. Freezing Nightmares along his way towards his resting friend.

But then, he missed and one Nightmare managed to knock him down. Toppling him over.

Jack yelped.

"Bunny! Cover for Jack!"

The pookah nodded and flung his boomerangs, hitting four out of six Nightmares whom circling around the young Guardian.

"Thanks." Jack panted after freezing the rest Nightmares.

"Don't mention it."

The two Guardians then dashed for the turtle, Jack's staff shooting out icicles and Bunny's boomerang whistling through the air.

The Nightmares subsided, and they are now facing three large creatures that Jack bow suspected aren't Nightmares. Horses, but with long sharp teeth, and eyes red as blood.

"Leave him alone!" Jack yelled, shooting ice at the creature nearest to his turtle friend. Only to miss.

"Strewth, Jack. Those ain't Nightmares!" Bunny exclaimed, readying out his boomerangs.

"What are they?"

"Look out!"
Jack yelped as he dodged the sharp teeth, Bunny quickly threw an egg bomb to distract the being.

"Those are Nightgaunts."

"They are what?"

"Nightgaunts. I 'aven't seen 'em for a long time. They're like, deadlier version of Nightmares."

"How deadly?"

"Very." Bunny muttered gravely, backflipping to avoid a Nightgaunt from biting his head off.

Jack dove to the ground, narrowly missing a Nightgaunt too before shooting more ice. Groaning in frustation when he kept missing, for the Nightgaunts are just too fast.

"How long is a long time the last time you've saw those things?!" Jack yelled as he ducked under a desk. Sliding on the floor with his ice.

"You don' wanna know."

"Bunny!"

"I don' know 'kay?! We fought them centuries before we could even defeat Pitch!"
Jack froze. His eyes widened.

"You mean.. they've been here since.. forever?"

Bunny grunted, hacking one of the Nightgaunts before inserting himself behind the younger Guardian's back.

"Yes."

"Sweet ice cones and snowflakes."

"Sounds right."

"Move!"
Both rolled out of the way from a lunging Nightgaunt, its razors clacking and snarling dangerously.

Jack rolled towards Leo, freezing his way over, creating some kind of a wall made out of thick ice between him and the Nightgaunts.

"Is he alright?!" Bunny shouted over the fight. Hooking his wooden boomerang at one of the Nightgaunts' neck before slicing it into halves.

The white haired boy quickly scanned over his unconscious friend. Black sand seeping out from his body, signaling whatever the Nightgaunts had come for was done. Jack could only hope the damage is not too bad.

"Leo. Leo can you hear me?" Banging was heard from the other side of the pale blue wall.

It won't be long untill the Nightgaunts broke in.

"Leo. Leo please wake up. Leo."
A crack resounded throughout the whole room.

"For the love of Mother Nature and Man in Moon, Leonardo wake up!"
Another crack.

Jack trembled. His brows furrowing on his forehead as sweats trickled, a rare sight for the Winter Spirit. As the wall then began to split.

"Leo!"

The first Nightgaunt got in and Jack quickly froze it.

"Leo please!"

Two more came.

"Leo!"

Three.

"Please wake up!"

Six.

"Leo!"

"Jack! Look out!"
The Guardian of Fun quickly turns around.

And came face to face with bloody slitted eyes.

----

"Leo!"

So dark..

"Leo!"

And cold..

"Wake up!"

Why am I here..

"Please!"

Pain.. Ow.. why so much pain..

"Leo wake up!"

Is that.. Donnie?

"Leo!"

Mikey?

"Leonardo!"

...and..Raph?

"Wake up!"

..wait

"Leo!"

What..

"Please!"

I don't understand..

"Wake up Leo!"

Where am I..

"Please!"

I can't..

"Leonardo!"

..so fuzzy..

"Wake up!"

..Be quiet.

.....

..Who..

..Who is Raph?

----

He can't believe it.

The Nightgaunts. They are gone. Just like that.

"Jack!"
Said boy was frozen still when Toothiana hugged him. He didn't even complain of how tight it is.

"Are you alright, Jack?"

"Jack?"

Jack blinked. Slowly

The room is empty. Spare for them, some elves, couple of yetis, broken furnitures, and his melting ice. But other than that, nothing.

No sign of the Nightgaunts.

"Where did-.."

Bunny kneeled beside him. Pushing him back to his feet.

"Dunno. They just.. Vanished. Gone without trace."
Jack eyed around. His attention falling on the blue clad turtle laid not too far from him.

"Leo!" He exclaimed, rushing to the turtle's side as the rest of the Gurdians joined him.

"Is he alright?"

"Is he breathing?"

"Is he even alive?" That earned Bunny a slap on the head courtesy of the Tooth Fairy, and a glare from the younger Guardian.

'I-will-freeze-your-puny-ears-if-you-dare-to-jinx-my-friend' is what Jack's glare looked like towards the Pookan warrior.

"We need to wake him up. The Nightgaunts did something to him."

"An' how are we goin' ta do that, Jack? He's still as a rock!"

"Hate to admit but, Bunny iz right, Jack." North piped in, ignoring Bunny's protests.

"He's not awake even after all this ruckus. How are we-"

As if on cue, the blue clad turtle's eyes then snapped open. Blue irises wide as he gasped, jolting up at once.

"Holy Mother of Nature!"

"Leo!" Jack hassled, holding his friend to steady him.

"Are you alright? Is there any pain? Do you need something?"
The turtle didn't answer, but sitting upright with eyes still wide. Panting, gasping, like he had been running.

"Leo..?"

It was then when the blue clad turtle finally answered.

And Jack wished he had not been too late.

"Who.. who are you?"

One word before you all kill me;

I truly am sorry.

And LOOK WHO'S ALIVE

NoLongerAlive THAT IS NOT A PUN THOOOOO
