thirty two.

***Alex's POV***

The house erupts after that. Dally quickly sits up and pulls me downstairs as everyone runs out from their rooms, panicking and screaming. A couple people are crying.

I lean against Dally and bury my face into his chest. I'd never been in a tornado before, but I had a feeling it was going to be way worse than thunder and lightning.

***Darry's POV***

I shoot up as soon as I hear the sirens. Bryce and Lauren sit up next to me, and I scoop Bryce up as we run out of the room. I yell all over the house for everyone to come to the living room with their clothes bag.

Once we were sure everyone was there, we all walk to the cellar. I unlock it quickly, hand Bryce to Ponyboy, and let everyone inside before climbing in myself. I lock the door from the inside, then switched the light on. I notice the place had been transformed into a small room that could fit about 10 people. We're really going to have to squish.

I see Dally sit down, holding a very frightened Alex in his arms. He doesn't seem to care that he's in front of the gang doing this. He's whispering something to her while rocking her back and forth on a bottom bunk. She's nodding and holding around his neck tight. I've never seen Dally this concerned for anyone, he must really like her.

I put Ponyboy in the bunk above them, then let people decide if they want to sleep together or separate. Bryce crawls next to Lauren, so I take the bunk above them. Steve takes a top bunk with Ellie beneath him. Kayla and Soda share a bottom bunk and we use the bunk above them for storage. Victoria and Johnny share as well, and Two-Bit crawls in above them.

Throughout the night, no one sleeps. I hear whispers coming from Dally, Soda, and Johnny's bunks. I hear tears coming from Bryce and Two-Bit's bunks. I hear constant shuffling from Steve, Ellie, and my own bunk.

And I don't think anyone could have missed the wind outside.

***Bailey's POV***

I was writing letters to the gang when the sirens went off.

Immediately, the doctors rush in and force me to stand. I quickly grab my Mickey Mouse crew neck, converse, and leggings from the chair in the corner of the room and walk out with the doctors and the rest of the patients.

We form a group and begin to walk away from the hospital. I can't do this. I can't stay away from the gang, the girls, or my guy any longer.

I make a decision quickly, throw my crew neck on over my hospital gown, pull my leggings on, tie my shoes, and discard my previous outfit. Then I sneak away from the group and make my way to the Curtis house.

I immediately knew I was in no position to walk the 3 miles back to the Curtis house, but I kept going. I don't look back. I just need to get back to the gang.

I soon enter their street and realize how deserted it is. Everyone must be in a cellar, no one will be out in this weather.

The wind begins to pick up speed as I run into the Curtis's backyard. I find their cellar and begin to bang on the doors.

No one answers.

I bang harder and harder until something catches my attention.

I turn and face the other way, and I make eye contact with it.

The tornado.

Holy shit.

I scream with all of the energy I have left and kick the doors loudly. I need to get inside NOW.

I pray for my life as I call for Two-Bit, Johnny, Victoria, Darry, anybody. But the door remains closed.

Tears stream down my face as I realize that this is where my life could end. I had just escaped my last nightmare, and I wanted to come back. I may not be given that chance anymore. That tornado could kill me within a few minutes.

Fear causes my body to shake as I make as much noise as possible to get them to open the door. My hair is flying everywhere as the wind blows hard against me. None of my efforts seem to be helping, though. No one opens the door to the cellar.

I collapse to my knees and accept that this will be the end.

***Two-Bit's POV***

I lay in my bunk, softly crying. All I can think about is if Bailey is okay.

Everyone finally went to sleep. I hear snores along with slower and heavier breaths all over the room. I listen carefully and hear the blaring wind, then a scream.

I shoot up, that wasn't just any scream.

I listen again to see if it'll happen twice, and it does.

I quickly climb off the bunk and run for the door, but it's locked. I fumble with the combination until I remember Soda telling me something: Darry's old buddy that died in a drag race had the number 36, and that's what he uses for most of his passwords. I crunch 36 in there three times and the lock opens up.

I throw the doors wide open and see the most beautiful girl in the world.
