Chapter 40
Jin falls down on his butt as soon as he's back on earth, his arms behind him to keep him seated and his eyes completely blown wide.
What... what just happened?
Oh fuck. Jungkook freaking ran from him? That selfish yet selfless little dumbass.
"Where's Jungkook?" Jimin is the first to asks. No one answers, probably because they are all in too much dispair from this failed mission. They all saw Jungkook's tantrum after all.
"Where." Jimin walks closer to Jin, "is." he grabs the male's collar, "Jungkook?"
A smile is on his face, but it's not a happy smile... it's a tell-me-Jungkook-is-still-down-there-and-I-will-kill-you type of smile.
Jin closes his eyes and swallows deeply, not even having the fucking energy to answer the golden-winged angel. It's not like his life is going to matter anyway, they are all going to die soon.
"You give the man one thing he likes and now he can't fucking let it go! Oh my god, this is for the sake of not only mankind, but everyone else too," Jimin sits down and places his hands on his head, "is he a fucking psychopath or what?"
"Probably," Namjoon sighs. All of them saw how Jungkook was acting down there, so honestly they are not that surprised.
Disappointed? Sure. Surprised? Nope, not at all.
"Why would he do that? Ugh, why's he suddenly playing the hero! I didn't think he was stupid, he's too good for that," Jimin says in frustration and kicks the grass.
Jimin is right, Jungkook was never one to play the hero. He was an asshole in the past, sure, but surprisingly never really stupid. Actually, there's quite a golden mind captured in there, plus he's fucking immortal so he got everything going for him it seems.
So why would he do that? Because of love ~ that's what everyone would think, right? But for some reason, this whole thing is starting to bother Jin specifically.
Jimin is completely right, Jungkook is not that stupid.
"He took my walkie talkie before running off... what if he got a plan?" Jin asks out his thoughts.
If Jungkook was just running in there blindly because of love there wouldn't really be a reason for him to grab it. Especially not when it could possibly have given Jin an extra chance to catch him, meaning he wants the walkie talkie for a specific reason.
"Why would he need that?" Namjoon ask too and quickly grabs his own. He click on the button that opens the line for Jin's walkie talkie, "Jungkook? Jungkook, can your hear us??"
No reply.
Namjoon tries again. And again. And again... but nothing happens.
"Did he turn it off?" Hoseok asks.
"Why would he turn it off though?" Namjoon questions.
"Maybe he's trying to sneak in there? He's probably aware we would figure out he still has it? So in order to not be noticed, he turned it off... for now," Jin says, "he will probably need it later..."
Jin grabs his chin and thinks over the theories, "If he got a plan, he will probably use it to get us to bring them back out."
"But it's useless, Taehyung can't get out. His time limit ran out hours ago," Namjoon says with a frown.
"Meaning," Jimin breaks in, "the idiot got a plan to defeat Diabolos... goddammit."
____________
Jungkook is running. He feels like he lost track of time ever since Jin disappeared. Jungkook only got one goal and that is reaching Diabolos before he kills Taehyung.
Otherwise, this plan will be for nothing. However, Taehyung is one stubborn man, so Jungkook is positive he's still alive. He's probably holding on to the very last bit of life he has, but it has to be there.
Turn. Turn. Jump. Turn.
Even the dead bodies doesn't make Jungkook's mind run off track, he's way to focused for that.
Minutes feels like hours in here, but he doesn't stop. Not even for a second.
Don't worry Taehyung. I got this.
Does he though? He doesn't know, but if he succeeds, everything will be solved.
Diabolos can die. In heaven, he will lose his powers, meaning the demon king becomes immortal and can die with Jungkook still living. What's left behind doesn't concern Jungkook, but the fact that he has that upper hand over Diabolos gave him an idea.
Another few turns and he's by the giant opening again.
"Billion of years, I have waited," it's Diabolos who's talking, "just for some pipsqueak like you to get in the way. I'm not pleased."
Bwah. Jungkook can smell Diabolos' bad breath all the way out here. Seriously, he got nothing left for the thing. He's disgusting.
Jungkook peaks his head out and is glad that he's yet to be noticed. Diabolos is standing with Taehyung in his hand, holding around his neck as he did earlier. Taehyung isn't fighting back, his entire body is completely lifeless, only his eyes are blinking once in a while.
He's clearly prepared to die.
Not on my watch, not on my watch!
Jungkook sneaks closer, trying to stay in the shadows.
"He was mine, you filthy animal," Diabolos continues, "I will rule the world, even without him if I have to. You can't defeat me."
"He could have, if you played fair."
Jungkook stands up and walks from his hideout which was a rock on the ground. Diabolos seems to freeze and stop what he's doing, turning his head to look at the human who's suddenly talking.
Taehyung, who recognized Jungkook's voice, immediately starts struggling in the demon's hold. He's probably pretty surprised to see Jungkook here as well.
"Oh, well will you look at that," Diabolos laughs, "he came right back to me."
The monster seems pretty amused with the human's return, but what's surprising is that Jungkook doesn't seem scared or anything. On the contrary, he's smirking and folding his arms over his chest.
"I did, so you can let him go," Jungkook says.
"And if I don't?" Diabolos asks, smiling. His hand tightens and Taehyung hands flies up to try and fight it off, his legs kicking the air.
"You'll die," Jungkook says, confidently. Well, his sassy side has never failed him, so he's being pretty reckless under the circumstances, since pissing Diabolos off will most likely get him hurt.
"Is that so," Diabolos laughs, "I would like to see you try, little human."
Jungkook lifts and eyebrow before he slowly starts walking closer and his arms drop to swing by him.
"You wanted us to invade heaven, didn't you? Because I can't die there," Jungkook asks.
"Oh, a smart human as well, how surprising," the demon rolls his eyes and chuckles. Seems like Jungkook's comments before all of this happened made Diabolos dislike him. How pleasing.
"That's right, I am smart," Jungkook says, "so let me get this straight. You are actually mortal, even though you are a God? Sounds pretty weak to me, to be honest."
Jungkook lifts his hand and starts looking at his nails ignorantly. He wants to piss of Diabolos so bad.
"Hah, says a little human like you! What are you gonna do? Bring heaven here?" the monster asks, "good luck with that, you can't run from me. You should have stayed hidden."
It's true, Jungkook won't be able to escape Diabolos in anyway from now on.
"That's right," he replies and drops his hand before looking up, "I never planned to though."
"Hmm?" Diabolos turns his head a little, not really understanding where all this confidence is coming from. Jungkook literally just doomed the world and he's aware of it. So why is he acting like this?
Jungkook's eyes momentarily looks over at Taehyung and then behind them. The male can barely keep his eyes open, but he still sees what's Jungkook does.
Is he giving him a hint?
Taehyung starts looking around the place they are, wondering what's Jungkook is pointing his eyes at. The angel obviously can't turn his head right now, but he can remember mostly how everything looks in here. So... what can't he see?
There are walls around them. He can kind of skim the chair Jungkook was bound too earlier in the corner of his eye. Some dead demons are by the exit hall, but aside from that, he can't see anything. So what's missing?
Oh shit.
"As you said yourself, I can't die in heaven right?" Jungkook asks and looks back at Diabolos.
"Well guess what, I can't die in hell either."
That's when he runs. Sure, Diabolos is big, but he probably didn't expect Jungkook to be running towards him. This makes him stagger and loosen his grib around Taehyung's neck.
The angel finally understands what Jungkook is thinking, so as soon as he gets free enough, he uses his very last energy to swing his legs and kick Diabolos directly in the face.
The demon grunts and tries to focus on Taehyung again, which makes it extremely easy for Jungkook to jump on him further down and push him backwards. Jungkook might be smaller, but he used his entire body weight, which in the end, is stronger than a punch.
Diabolos probably didn't notice how close they were to the edge.
The edge of Styx.
