Chapter 32

Sorry for slow updates! I work like a maniac, but I will do my best to upload more!

_____________

Jungkook feels how his head is almost slipping out of his hand and banging against the table before him. He kinda wants to know what sound that would make.

But in order to avoid the pain, he shocks himself and sits up right, even if it's difficult considering how tired he is. This lesson is just as boring as he expected it to be.

No one has minded him a second glance now that Taehyung is sitting in the back of the class with some other angels who seems pretty frightened by his presence.

All the girls are whispering about how handsome he is and all the boys are talking about he they wished they could be Jungkook.

If only it was possible, he would switch with any of them.

Well, maybe aside from having Taehyung as an angel because Jungkook does feel a sting of jealousy in his chest. However, he would rather die than admit that to anyone.

With the clock just ticking over and over, Jungkook gets lost in his own imagination.

It's first when the bell suddenly rings and he flinches that he turns back to reality again.

He yawns as he stands up and starts collecting his things. At least they can have some food in the cafeteria and eat it on the rooftop. Considering they still have money left from the fight Taehyung won, Jungkook feels like he has money for an entire life time right now.

The angel quickly agrees the the idea and follows Jungkook towards the warzone also know as the school canteen.

Jungkook has rarely bought anything there, considering his lack of money. But it's not like he has ever wanted to, because no matter what day, what time or even what school you're at, someone gets hurt in the cafeteria. The rate of succes is low, but Jungkook is hungry. Not to mention, a black-winged angel behind him will make it ten times easier.

"What do you want?" Taehyung asks, almost as if he could read Jungkook's mind. The younger thinks about it for a little and feels his cheeks heat up slightly as he quietly replies.

"Just a chicken sandwich."

Taehyung smiles softly and pats Jungkook on the head. The soft locks fit perfectly under his fingers and it leaves Jungkook no choice but to smack it away or he might burn himself up.

"Roager that."

Jungkook glares slightly as the man walks into the crowd to get some food for him.

The boy decides to head to the rooftop first, it will save him some more breaktime. Luckily, not many people spend time on the rooftop because technically it's cut off for students. But when have Jungkook ever given a shit about rules?

The stairs are as they usually are and Jungkook is satisfied when he sees that the roof is completely empty. He sighs slightly when he feels the wind hit his face and brush his hair from his eyes. Such a satisfying feeling.

He walks to the edge where only a fence is between him and 6 floors free fall. Only months ago, that wouldn't have been an unusual thought in his head. But now, it isn't even possible so why bother?

Jungkook sighs and rests his arms on the fence, lying his head to rest on top of them while looking down towards the ground very far from him.

But it would be nice, wouldn't it?

"Chicken sandwich at your service," a voice appears and cuts Jungkook from his thoughts. Taehyung appears from the stairway and walks to the other, handing over the food.

"Thanks," Jungkook says, even if his appetite has dropped slightly. Taehyung throws his arms over the fence to mimic Jungkook stans and they look into the distance. From here, they can see parts of the rich city.

They stand like that for a while, not really saying anything. Jungkook won't call it awkward, but even after everything they have been through, Jungkook finds it hard to communicate with the elder. He's so handsome, so strong and so smart. He feels like unapproachable territory.

The brunette's hands tightens around the top of the fence and he takes a small breath. There's so much he wants to ask Taehyung, maybe it's finally time.

"In the purgatory... what happened to you?" Jungkook asks. His voice is still small, almost as if Taehyung will attack him from asking such things. It's just one of his questions, but it has been on his mind a lot.

Luckily for him, Taehyung doesn't seem to react very much. He nods slightly to himself and takes a deep breath. He probably expected such questions to come along at some point anyway. However, you can never truly prepare yourself to put your worst horrors into words.

"Since I was there for a very long time, quite a lot happened," he begins, "some of it I can't even remember. I blacked out at times too."

Jungkook gulps and feels his hands grow cold from holding the fence.

[Warning: Talk about uncomfortable topics, don't read if you are easily triggered]

"The first one is printed into my mind like a burn mark. I don't think I will ever be able to erase the terror I felt from it," he says, "when ending in the purgatory, everything turns into a game. For most people, it isn't hard but for us (suicidal people) it's worse than hell. My first challenge was to watch my father rape my sister and not having the ability to stop him. I tried, but I went right through him, like he wasn't even there."

Jungkook feels his body shiver. What crazy shit is this?

"Some of the most painful ones where burning alive, having to murder an innocent with my bare hands, having to..." Taehyung gulps and glances at Jungkook, "having to give you up."

He continues, "even if it was all kind of like a stimulation, it all felt so real. Day in and day out, I had to suffer. For over 3000 years I had to endure such pain. Such endless pain."

A soft hand lands on top of Jungkook's head for the second time today, however this time it sinks into the locks and runs down the hold in the hook of the neck.

"There was only one thing keeping me alive," Taehyung states, "and that was my bond with you."

Jungkook feels his face starting to burn up and his heart beating faster. He hates this feeling, yet he doesn't want to pull away and make it stop. It feels like he can disappear in the sensation of Taehyung's hand gently play with his locks like there's nothing more important in the world.

"And forever, I will love you and I will fight to make you love me too, but I have felt you this entire time. I know why you don't trust others and why you hate the world," he says, "maybe you didn't believe me at first, but I know how terrible the world can be. I understand your pain of feeling alone and helpless, however... I wish to save you from it."

Jungkook can't even utter a word, he's completely hypnotized by the other's purple eyes. So captivating.

"I don't know if I will ever make you say those three words, but that's okay. As long as you're here, it's okay."

Taehyung smiles gently as he looks at Jungkook's spaced out face.

As if time had stopped, the two gently leans towards each other, ready to lock their lips together and put an end to this longing feeling in their chests.

But as seconds rush by, that idea became a dream sent from heaven. Such a bright day with beautiful light and calm wind could be turned so drastically it would knock against the shins of everyone standing, forcing them to their knees in fear.

Fear.

Not a word that has appeared much in Taehyung's mind. Sure, worry has been there and regret has filled him many times.

However, none of those can compare to the agonizing sensation of pure terror fill up Taehyung's chest as he watches a hand wrap around Jungkook's neck and squeeze it as if simply he were a puppet, ready to be ripped apart.

Their eyes grow in size and their mouths open in the sorry attempt to give each other the sound of their voice. Their breath. Their immediate sign that they are still living and breathing.

But it's ripped from them as Jungkook is flung from Taehyung's grip.

No black-winged angel can be outsmarted or outrun by any other rank on this planet. It's impossible that something slipped passed and got so close without him noticing.

Yet here they are, in two ends of the roof top.

"Well well, isn't it lovely?" a voice emerges, "seems like something out of a cliché love story, doesn't it?"

Sehun smiles as he stands leaned against the wall around the door, his hair resting over his forehead and his arms are folded against his chest. A true villain, that's what he is.

Taehyung looks at Jungkook and immediately tightens his jaw and squeezes his fist. Jungkook is in the secure hold of Minseok's hand, his eyes are brimming with tears that are threatening to run over.

"Seems like we finally got the upper hand," Sehun says and pushes himself from the wall.

Taehyung's wings unfold in a second, but Sehun's hand motion stops him from flying to save Jungkook. A whoosh of wind rushes by them and Taehyung's body is suddenly unable to move, his mouth is open in shock as he can't even move a finger. It was only for a second, but it was enough to tell that Minseok is no longer just a white-winged angel.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," Sehun says, "it might not end well."

For demonstration, Minseok's hand tightens around Jungkook's neck and the brunette immediately lifts his hand in an attempt to stop the suffocation he's feeling.

He sees Taehyung's wings get weaker through his tears and he musters words out with his very last energy.

"D-Don't listen! They c-can't kill me-" Jungkook chokes as Minseok's grip once again gets stronger. He's not wrong, but that comment just makes an even more sinister smile appear on the angel's lips.

"That's the point sweety," Minseok whispers into Jungkook's ear as he slowly leans closer, "my pretty one ~"

With that, they disappear into thin air, leaving Taehyung alone on the closed-off rooftop with nothing but his broken heart to carry him.
