Purebred
"Truth or dare," asked Pallid as he looked over to Somber.
Somber thought for a second. "Dare."
Pallid tilted his head as he thought of a good dare to humiliate Somber a bit. "I dare you to lick the floor."
Somber wrinkled his nose, instantly wishing he had chosen truth. "Can I change my answer," he asked hopefully. "Do you know how many disgusting and filthy paws have walked on this floor?"
"You chose dare," teased Ashen warmly with a smug look on her face.
Somber snorted in anger but he wasn't about to back out. He padded a few paces where he hoped no one stepped and lowered his head. He rasped his tongue over the harsh ground. It didn't taste like anything but he was praying he wouldn't get sick from it. He stood up and smiled at Pallid. "There."
"Truth or dare Ashen," barked Somber. He hoped that his sister would chose dare but she wasn't stupid.
"Truth," she barked as she blinked her eyes.
Somber thought intently for a moment before his eyes glowed. "What is your favorite song?"
Ashen was a bit surprised by the question. "I don't have a favorite song," she argued with a shrug of her shoulders.
"Liar," growled Somber as he lashed his tail. "Everyone has a favorite song. You just must be embarrassed by yours."
"That's not true," snapped Ashen as she turned her muzzle upward at her brother.
"How about we all say our favorite songs to make us all feel better," suggested Whisper who was the one who enjoyed music the most. "I like Ain't No Mountain High Enough or Total Eclipse Of The Heart."
"Oldies," chuckled Pallid as he nudged Whisper's head with his shoulder. "I like What I've Done by Linkin Park or maybe er Footloose."
"Footloose," yowled Whisper in mockery. "And you're making fun of my choices."
"How about Monster by Skillet," asked Somber as he puffed out his chest in pride. "That kinda sums up the situation we're in."
"I like Come and Get Your Love," barked Dish as he wagged his tail. "I know it's older but it's pretty good."
Ashen knew it was her time so she tapped her claws against the ground impatiently. "I enjoy Don't Stop Believin'."
"What about you Grenade," asked Whisper as she looked over to the tom who hadn't spoken the whole game since he hadn't had a turn yet.
Grenade didn't want to answer but everyone else did so he sighed. "Battle Cry by Imagine Dragons."
"Never heard of it," confessed Somber as he exchanged a look with Ashen. She hadn't heard of it either.
Grenade shrugged. "I'll have to play if for you sometime."
"Hey I have a question for Dish. Truth or dare?"
Dish felt his fur prickle as he heard the familiar voice of Diesel with Drift and Desert. He turned his head and bared his teeth. "Leave me alone."
"Answer the question," snapped Diesel as he turned his nose upward.
"Truth," barked Dish as he willed them just to go away.
Diesel curled his tail over his back and smiled excitedly. "Are you a purebred?"
"Purebred," echoed Dish as he looked to Ashen and Somber in confusion. "What's a purebred?"
"A purebred is only one bred," explained Somber as he looked to Diesel with eyes narrowed to slits. "Like a Husky or a Golden Retriever or a Scottish Fold for felines."
"Of course I am," barked Dish with assurance as he turned his muzzle upward.
"Yeah right," scoffed Desert as she hit her paw against Drifts and he chuckled in amusement. It made Dish's fur bristle.
"How do you know he's not a purebred," asked Ashen as her eyes hardened as she looked to the three pups. She was debating whether or not to chase them off or even kill them but realized that no matter what she did they would always come back.
Diesel padded forward and Dish strode forward. The young Husky paced around him, looking at him up and down. It made Dish very uncomfortable and he tucked his tail between his legs.
"Look at those paws. They're way to big to be German Shepard paws and your ears." Diesel flicked his tail against Dish's floppy ears. "German Shepard ears are straight and pointy, not droopy. Don't even get me started on your tail and pathetic personality."
"That's enough Diesel," snapped Somber as his muscles rippled in rage.
However Diesel was far from done. He pointed a paw toward Ashen and Somber. "They're both purebred Gray Wolves." He then looked to Grenade. "Grenade is an American Shorthair." He flicked his tail to Whisper. "She's a Siberian and Pallid is just a Bengal Tabby tom."
"They're all purebreds except you," Drift barked as he leaned against Desert.
"Then what about you three," asked Dish in rage as his lips began to peel back in the beginnings of a snarl.
Diesel rolled his eyes. "You're even more stupid than I thought," he chuckled as he pricked his ears. "I'm a full bred Siberian Husky while Desert here is a Golden Retriever and Drift is a St. Bernard." He smiled at his friends before he looked to Dish with mockery in his eyes. "We're all purebreds except you. You're nothing but a stupid mutt."
Dish's ears plastered against his head and his eyes shone how he truly felt. He couldn't say anything since nothing he said would help his situation. It was hopeless and he knew it. He turned and bolted.
"Dish," called Ashen before she rushed to her paws and stood in front of Diesel, snarling. "You jerks!"
"That's the best word you can come up with," snorted Desert in amusement.
"No," shot Ashen as her tail lashed. "There are just pups around and I don't want to use that kind of language."
Desert rolled her eyes before she looked to Drift and Diesel. "Come on guys," she barked as she nudged Drift's shoulder. "Let's leave these losers to talk about how they really aren't that useless and socially deprived."
With that they turned and padded away, looking smug as ever. They had accomplished what they wanted to whether or not Ashen wanted to admit it or not. She could just stand there with rage wafting from her pelt as she stood watching them go. Her fur bristled and made her already thick wolf fur make her look twice as large.
A growl rolled in her throat and Somber strode forward and pressed against her. He rumbled to try and calm her down. When that didn't work he licked her shoulder fur and tried to flatten it down. "Easy," he chided, worried that she would attack those pups. He wanted to but he couldn't let his rage get the better of him.
"They don't think before they speak," she roared as she looked to Whisper and Pallid for back up.
"No one their age does," pointed out Pallid as he exchanged a look with Whisper.
Whisper took a step forward, her whiskers stooping lower than usual. "Sometimes you just have to let it roll off your shoulders."
"That's asking a lot from a pup," cut in Somber as he continued to try and calm his sister with long strokes of his tongue.
Ashen shoved her head against Somber's chest and pushed him back. "Well we can't just stand here and do nothing!"
She bunched her muscles, ready to go after him but Somber stepped in front of her. She bunched her muscles, ready to push him out of the way but Somber's eyes turned troubled and she relaxed a bit. She would never do anything to cause harm to her brother.
"I'll go after him," offered Somber as he looked in the direction Dish had went. "I think that I'll be able to calm him down."
"A bit of sire to sire," suggested Pallid as he tried to soften the blow to Ashen. Some things Somber was just better at when it came to Dish.
Ashen let out a frustrated sigh. "Alright," she grumbled before she looked into her brother's deep stare. "Just be careful, okay?"
"Of course," assured Somber as he took a step forward and touched a nose to Ashen's ear. "I'll bring him back here in one piece."
Her eyes lit as she looked to Whisper, Pallid, and Grenade. "I'll be right here. Just don't do anything that you'll end up regretting."
"I won't Ashen," growled Somber a bit forcefully before he turned and wagged his tail. "See you later!"
With that he turned and bolted forward, hoping that he'd be able to bring Dish back without much trouble.
