Background: We live in a society where certain people are told that they can't be allowed to be certain things. Whether it's race, gender, or you as a person in general. Sometimes you need to be proud of who you are to regardless of your skin tone or how people look at you. He's not trying to embrace anything or act a certain way because he already is. So without further ado I introduce to you the second African-American character in my book, Myron Chaplin.
Myron is a very quiet boy who grew up in the ghetto part of town. He never really had anything to be proud of, other than the fact that he was streetsmart and book smart. Some of the kids in the area would gang up on him and threw his books in the trash because he thought he was throwing his life away with school, but truth be told he was actually going on the right path of life so he wouldn't end up like those type of people. He also gets hate threats buy some kids at his school and was often stopped by the police because of how suspicious he looked. He never really did any crime, but you know house our society is sometimes, they always try to find problems to make peoples lives harder, but he wasn't entirely worried about that. because he found out that he was something extraordinary.
One day when he was watching TV with his parents, they showed him something. His mother was Japanese and his father was an African-American, and they showed a tape that covered the first African-American samurai named Yasuke. Yasuke was a retainer of African origin who served under the Sengoku Period Japanese daimyō Oda Nobunaga. After watching his parents brought out the history books, and they told him that he was a descendent of Yasuke. On the outside he was unsure how to feel, but deep down, he was intrigued. He started learning more about Yasuke and Japanese culture. And no he didn't discover that by watching anime... Well sometimes he did, but his knowledge was by his own parents and from history books.
Things for the future we're looking great for him, but one day something happened. While he was at a museum learning more about his culture, both African and Japanese, he saw a group of thieves stealing a weapon. It then revealed to be Yasuke's sword. The group thought it look nice and they can make a fortune of this on the black market but Myron.. Myron was pissed to the core. He started attacking the thieves one by one, they eventually fled but when the cops arrived, The sword was gone... And so was Myron.
He figured that it was high time that he left the city and when he was getting his stuff, A sword was sitting in his closet...He didn't know how or why but it was suddenly there. He wanted to toss it, but it suddenly appears it was then stuck to his hand. As if it didn't want to leave him. He took a closer look and recognized it...It was The sword of Yasuke. His head was going a bunch of directions trying to process what was happening. Then suddenly the sword glows dark and a silhouette appears and when it steps into the light it reveals...Yasuke.
Yasuke: You are my descendant, Correct? You are confused, correct? I can see, but here is my answer...This sword has chosen you. I want you to keep this sword and honor my legacy. You and only you are worthy enough to hold this...Farewell.
The spirit disappears but it hasn't left Myron. He took the spirit's words to heart and began to leave the city. It took him months to master the sword but when he has full control, he will use it to honor not only Yasuke's legacy, but his own legacy as well.
