The Lie
She feels the need to struggle,
To keep him content and glee.
Her mind and heart juggle,
And all but them can see...
Filled with guilt and sorry,
Lately he can't sleep at night.
While she's filled with worry,
Something's just not right.
He was drunk, broken glass,
Though this can't be to blame.
Thoughts fester while time pass,
Nothing seems the same.
Strings begin to unravel,
But ends refuse to take.
Minds begin to travel,
As everything's at stake.
A lie he'd maintained,
Of that single kiss she stole.
And that lie he'd obtained,
It digs and digs a hole.
Such a simple task,
Just speak but he can't say.
Did you? She'd ask.
He's scared she'll go away.
The words were distant,
But slowly he does find.
The lies shatter in an instant,
But the truth is so unkind.
