Ruby

He stops his car in front of a fancy looking café. I get out of the car right after he does. I really regret wearing sweats this morning. I notice a Starbucks beside the fancy coffee shop. I look at him. He's taking off his suit's jacket. "Is Starbucks cool?" He asks with a smile. I just smile back with a soft nod. We enter Starbucks. We sit into a table by the shop's windows. "What will you take?" He asks smile softly. His smile makes you smile back immediately. "A pumpkin spice would be great." I say with a wide smile. "Cool, I love it, too." He says with a soft grin. He gets up to the cashier. I watch him as he orders.

I check out the way he's standing. How he talks to the lady behind the counter. How he always smiles while speaking with other people. This is what I like to do now most of the time. Watch people. Notice everything about them. Even the smallest detail. It makes me think about how different we're all are. How beautifully different we are from each other. "One pumpkin spice for you." He says as he places the cup in front of me. His voice is deep and strong. It's soothing. "And one for me." He says as he places the other one in front of him, while taking the seat in front of me. He places his arms on the table, crossing them. "So?" He smiles. "So?" I say as I try to stop my smile by looking at my cup. "How long have you been a doctor?" He asks. "Two years for now." I say. "You're a Harvard graduate, am I right?" He asks. "Yeah." I take a sip from my cup. "Me, too. I graduated four years ago." He says. "Oh." I say. He's older. And hotter. "How do you feel about working in my hospital?" He asks. "Well, I guess." I look at my nails. I hate eye contact. This shit sucks. "Did you want to be a doctor?" He asks. Well, it depends on why are you asking this question. "Not really." I say. "What did you want to do then?" He asks as he looks at me. "I wanted to....to..write." I say. "You write?" He asks with such an impressed tone. I nod as I feel my cheeks burning.

No one know about my writing. Nobody really ever read anything I wrote before, except Peter. I used to read to him. My chest aches at the thought of him. "Well, I really hope maybe I can read something you wrote sometime." He says as he finishes his drink. "Maybe." I mutter under my breath wondering if he heard me.

"This has been such a great coffee break, Ruby." He says. "Is it okay if I call you Ruby outside work?" He asks smiling. "As long as I can call you Alexander outside work, too." I say laughing. "Deal." He says while laughing along with me. His laugh shows how soft he's actually. Just like his smile does. Those are mostly my favorite features in people along with their eyes. I just feel that those are the things that shows the real parts of this person. Their smile, laugh and eyes. "I have to leave. I have a meeting in 10 minuets. I will see you tomorrow, Ruby." He says as he shakes hands with me. His hands are big, that my hand almost feels odd within them. I watch him as he gets into his car and dives away. I get into the car. I pull on its cover. I lay my head back. Guys. Men. They feel odd. It's been five years since I had coffee with a man. It's been five years since a man last touched me or kissed me. Tobias. He was that last guy. It felt odd. Sitting there with someone else. Not him. But, he moved on. He forgot about me. He doesn't care anymore. He likes someone else now. He's with someone else now. Elite. And Tobias. My Tobias. I am a fool. I should have moved on. I should move on. He's gone. He's not mine anymore. He won't be.

I wake up in my car. I am still in my seat, with my head laying back on the seat. It's dark outside. I turn on the engine and start to drive. My phone rings as I stop into a red light. Ash's name pops up my phone as it rings. I smile. It's been a week since we last talked. He said that he has an important fashion week in Paris. I hit the accept icon. I put him on the speaker. "Hey. I missed you, you asshole." I say as I start to drive again. "Well, this asshole has called to invite you to his wedding, in LA." He says with laugh. "Yassss. LA!! This is what I call good news." I say laughing alone side him. "I have news as well." I say as my voice changes. "Please make it good." He begs from the phone. "Firstly, I got a promotion. Secondly, I met Tobias." I say. "Tobias Woods?!" He says into the phone. "Yeah." I sight. "What happened?" He asks. I sight as I start to tell him.

"He's with his childhood friend now?" He asks through the phone. "Yeah." I say as I park the car. "Well, I need to see you, and send me his number if you have it." He says. "Why?" I ask. "I want to check on an old friend?" He says. I sight. "I will ask him just for you." I say as I grab the phone. "Okay, talk later." He says as we hang up. "Bye." I say as I end the call. I grab my bag and get out of the car. I walk to the building. A figure catches my eye. He's standing with his back to me. Tobias? Shit. "Tobias?"
