"You're getting another kid, huh?" I watch Ruby, as she admires the baby clothes that Penny is showing her. Louisa is smiling, holding Henry. "Yeah, it's crazy, man." Al beside me, sights, happily. "How are you guys?" He asks. I look at him. "We're good, great actually." I smile, looking back at Ruby. Louisa will be leaving to college tomorrow, her spring break coming to an end. "She's happy, you know. That you guys are back together." He says. My smile grows wider.
"I am happy, too. More than ever really." I keep my gaze on her. "7 more months and Henry will end up with a sibling." I look at Henry. He leaves Louisa's arms and walks slowly to his father, right into his outstretched arms. I have never thought about myself being a father. The lack of a good parental figure in my life and my mother leaving me at an early age. My father never exactly gave me anything except a life full of bad memories and drama. Not to mention drugs as well. "You wanna meet him?" Al asks, Henry standing between his legs.
I look at the confusion baby. He's starting to pick his father's looks. "Look, Henry, this is Woods, aunt Ruby's boyfriend." Al introduces me to the little boy. "Woos." He pronouns my name. I extend my hand to him. He leans against it, repeating my name. I smile at him. He smiles back softly, showing the starts of the teeth, he has. "Hey, there." I say. I do have some experience with kids. Anne was the first baby I have met. I was in middle school at the time.
"Woos." He stares at me with wide baby eyes. "He likes you." Ruby sits in the small space between me and Al. "How do you know that?" I smile, looking at her. Her shoulders are on display, showing through her blue blouse. Freckles coating them like sugar. The necklace is lacing her neck. I smile even more, as I recall that night, from my memories.
"I know him pretty well, don't I, Henry baby?" She sits him in her lap, looking at him with sparkles in her eyes. I love how happy she looks. I want to give her a baby, so badly. Seeing her so happy around kids, I am sure brings back memories about her brother. Henry chuckles softly, staring back at her.
"Should I be worried about your son stealing my girl, Roberts?" I smirk at Al. "Oh, he's going down the same path, his father tried, yeah?" He chuckles. "What does that mean?" Penny asks. "Oh, you don't know that story?" I ask. "Al took me on a date back at high school." Ruby smiles. "Really?" Penny asks with wide eyes. "We didn't even kiss, really. Seems that Woods had her hooked already." Al sits next to his wife.
"I have to be honest and say that she got me hooked first really." I give her a smile. "Stop being cheesy, Woods, will you?" Louisa crosses her arms, rolling her eyes, getting us to burst out laughing.
"Call me when you land, okay." Ruby hugs Louisa tightly. "Okay, mom." Louisa teases saying. I smile at the two sisters hugging. "See you in summer, okay?" Louisa pulls back saying. "What's in summer?" I raise an eyebrow. "Felix is planning on inviting mom and dad and Ruby on a summer trip, his family owns a beach house." Louisa shrugs. "Am I invited?" I smirk.
"You will have to deal with mom and dad, Rub." Louisa pats Ruby's shoulder. Ruby sights. "We will deal with them." I place my arm around her. She smiles at me. "You better not fuck this up until we meet again, eh?" Louisa grabs her bag. "Yes, sir." I wave at her. We both watch her as she leaves.
I look into my phone. Elite's face with a title beside it is shining in my Twitter scrolling page. "Lawyer Benne succeed in yet another one of her great cases. Her private life opening up." The title beside her smiling face says. I click on the link. It takes me to a page that has the full picture of Elite. Her hair is loose, no glasses. A sliver power suit is wrapping her tiny body. Towering over her, just at her side is Kingsley. He's just as I remember him.
He's smiling, arm wrapped around El's waist, pulling her closer to him. I smile at how happy she looks. Seems like she found someone. She found her Ruby. My eyes skip down to the words underneath the picture.
"Elite Benne, the famous lawyer, exceeds in yet another hard case, beating her friend Jason Kingsley. The two were spotted hanging out a lot over the last month, showing us some real romance, through their stares and smiles. We wonder if this can be the start of a new love story between the two? If Elite has moved on so quickly from her last break up, with her anonymous boyfriend?"
Anonymous boyfriend? I am the anonymous boyfriend. Wow, I don't blame her for not wanting to mention me. I am not that famous. I am only a guy who own a small coffee shop. I scroll, showing yet another picture of both of them, walking holding hands. She's laughing and wearing her glasses.
"The two have been friends despite the case that they work against each other. Working in the same office unlike others. In a pervious meeting with Miss Benne, we asked her if there is any sparks flying between the two. "We're great friends. I have always admired Jason. I can't promise you anything, really." She said, leaving us all hanging."
"What are you reading?" The bed shakes as she jumps next to me. "It's just an article about El." I shrug. "How is she?" Ruby smiles. "It seems that sparks are fly between her and that Kingsley guy." I smirk, placing the phone next to me. "I knew he had something for her, the minute I saw him." She pulls the covers up. "Yeah, I am just glad she's okay." I lay down. "Me, too." She mumbles, slipping into sleep.
