Ruby
I park the car in the small parking lot, that lies behind the building that has Elite's office. I remember its name after that talk we both had on the wedding's day, morning. I looked it up after Tobias left this morning. He didn't say anything when I told him this morning that I wanted to talk to her. I do feel like I own it to her. I sight as I make my way into the lift in the entrance. The background music of Queen is playing through the small speaker in the elevator. I hope my break is the at the same time as hers. After a a minute or so from pushing the button with number 7 upon it, the door slide open. I walk out of the lift, the heels of my black boots clinging against the marble floor, that adds a nice touch to the whole level. A small woman with brown locks, is sitting in a desk.
"How can I help you?" She asks with a smile as I walk up to her. "Is Elite Benne free?" I ask. "Well, Miss Benne is free, it's her lunch break." She says. "Can I meet her?" I smile. "Just a second." I nod as she presses a button, that buzzes. "Miss Benne, someone is here to see you." She speaks into the small machine attached to her desk. "Who is it?" Elite's strong voice, asks. "Excuse me, what's your name?" The brunette asks me. "Ruby. Ruby Clark." I say. She nods to me, repeating my name to Elite. "Give me a moment." Elite says and her voice disappears.
"Olivia, do I have any meetings with any customers, later?" A deep male voice makes his way us. A blue suit with a black tie and a sandy blond hair, smiles at us. "No, Mr Kingsley." The girl says with a smile, checking a couple of papers. "Thanks." He passes her a wink. "Divorce, then?" He turns to me. I look at him, puzzled. "Trust me, I know it's hard." He smiles at me. "I am sorry. I am not divorced." I blink twice. "Oh, sorry. I thought if you're meeting El, then you got some crap going on." He gives cotation marks on crap. "I have a normal life, you know." We both turn to meet with Elite, wrapped up in a black suit. Her hair is loose, her glasses aren't there.
"I seem to forget that sometimes." He chuckles. "I see you met, Jason Kingsley." She stands next to me. "Hi." I say. "Nice to meet you." He smiles at me. "We gotta go." She tugs at my arm. "Olivia cancel all my meetings till 5pm." El walks to the elevator, pulling on her coat. "Alright, Miss Benne." Olivia says. I follow El into the lift. Jason passes us a wave as the door close. The ride down the building is silent, except for the music. The Bohemian rythme is replaced with a Labrinth song. As soon as the lift opens up, Elite rushes out. I follow her.
I pull the door of the bar that lies on the other side of the street. The place leaks of liquor and weed. We sit in a nearby table, after taking off our coats. The place is warm and almost without any clear air. I watch her as her hand waves to someone. "What are you gonna have?" She asks. "I don't drink on duty." I shrug. "Alright, then. Is water okay?" She asks. I nod. "A glass of a beer and water, Jasper." She shouts out loud.
"So?" She leans back in her seat. "I came to talk." I say. "I came to listen." She says. Her normal face, makes me wonder of she even cried last night. Makeup is covering her petite face. Nude lipstick and thick mascara. "I am sorry." I say. "About?" A huge cup full of beer is placed in front of her, a cup of water in front of me. "I am going to be honest with you, Elite. But, you should know that we both never meant to hurt you." I say. She sips her beer, waiting for me to lay it out on her.
I watch her eyes water as I tell her, everything. She wipes the tears before they make there way down her cheeks. She listens to me with nothing more than a nod. My heart aches. I keep my eyes fixed on my water, too guilty to actually look at her. Afraid to meet her gaze.
"I knew that he didn't stop loving you." She says. "I am sorry." I sight. "Don't. I mean, I was so jealous when I first saw you with him. I wanted him to be with me instead." She smiles, sarcastically. "Now and after five damn years, it's still you." She sights, leaning back in her seat. "He loves you, just-" "Not in the way, I want him to." She nods. A couple minutes of silence pass. I feel bad and relieved in the same time. "I am glad, you did this, Ruby." She says. "Really?" I ask. "Yeah." She nods, smiling at me. "Are you gonna be okay?" I ask. "I have been through worse, trust me. I will just need time, to forgive him. To forgive you." She says as we make our way out of the bar. The wind is cold against my warm face. "I understand." I nod. "I will see you around." She waves at me and leaves me there.
I enter the apartment, after texting Alex that I am sick, and I can't make it back to work again, today. I take off my coat, making my way to my room. Blade is meowing behind me. I sight. I forgot to feed him this morning. The door knocks. I look back at it, along with my cat, whose attention isn't focused on food anymore. It makes its way to the door, faster than I do. I let him in with his suitcase. "Mind if I stay a couple of day?" He shrugs. I hug him tightly, hoping, that we would share a lot of those in the coming days, maybe even forever.
