Jeongguk entered the café where he planned to meet up with his friends, Jimin and Namjoon.
He pulled the sleeves of his hoodie further down, trying to hide the new bruises.
Yesterday after driving home from the hospital, his father threw a tantrum once again, blaming Jeongguk for everything wrong with their family's life, hitting his wrists and back.
His mother just looked away and cried.
But what's new?
He spotted their regular table still empty, so he went and sat down already, looking through the menu but knowing well he's going to take his usual order of honey cake and banana milk tea.
"Gguks!" He heared that familiar high pitched voice call for him, already knowing it's Jimin.
He looked over to the door, seeing his best friend clinging to his boyfriend Namjoon while entering the café.
Jimin and Namjoon have been in an on-off relationship for more than a year now.
It was this viscous circle where they would be together for about 5 months, then Namjoon would start a jealousy fight because of all those guys staring at his boyfriend and checking him out, break up and then crawl back to Jimin because 'he can't live without him'.
This is their third try and it doesn't seem like it will ever have an end.
Jeongguk got up and before he knew it, the smaller boy already engulfed him in a tight hug.
"How are you? I feel like we haven't seen eachother in ages." Jimin released the hug, immediately getting pushed behind by his boyfriend.
"Wow let me say hello to Koo too before you start asking questions, babe." And with that Jeongguk found himself in the others, much taller embrace.
His friends really treat him like a baby, calling him Gguks and Koo, hugging him, almost lifting him up, caring and protecting him from everything.
He really appriciates it but well -- he isn't his 15 year old self anymore.
"So as Jimin asked, how are you Gguks?" Namjoon released their hug as well, sitting down next to the chair Jeongguk picked and Jimin sitting right next to him.
"Well, you guys know that my parents would like never let me spend money on Taehyung, because you know -- he talks about sensitive stuff." He started explaining.
His parents, especially his father, aren't a fan of Taehyung, calling him a 'f*g idol' and such.
"So as you know i participated at that contest to win fansign tickets and guess what!" Both their eyes lit up seeing Jeongguks excitement.
"GGUKS YOU GONNA MEET TAEHYUNG?" Jimin jumped up from his chair, the whole café noticing and staring at him.
".. sorry." He bowed awkwardly to the people around, sitting back down.
"You gonna meet Taehyung?"
"Yes, the fansign is on saturday!" Saturday was actually only 2 days away, so he could already feel the nervous excitement bubbling up in his stomach.
"That's amazing, Koo!" Namjoon chimed in, looking very happy for Jeongguk, remembering all those times they would all talk on the phone and Gguk would blabber about Taehyung and how great of a guy he must be and that he would do anything to meet him.
"Welcome to Honey and Milk café what can i bring you?" Jeongguk heard a familiar voice behind him.
He turned around seeing who he expected -- Yoongi.
"Oo hey Yoongi." Jeongguk awkwardly looked everywhere but his eyes.
Him and Yoongi have a little bit of a history.
They were really good friends until at one party they well -- made out.
To both of their defence, they were drunk and were more or less forced to kiss because of truth or dare.
Since then things have been kind of -- well, weird.
"Hey Jeongguk." Yoongi smiled uncomfortably, also not looking Gguk in the eyes, non of them daring to say anything else.
After a couple seconds of that uncomfortable silence, Namjoon took initative.
"Well.. we would like one slice of Cherry Cheesecake, one honey cake, two cups strawberry latte and one banana milk tea."
Yoongi slightly nodded his head, writing down their order and sprinting away right after.
Jimin looked after Yoongi, checking when he would be out of sight. "Gguks, y'all really need to resolve your issue." He turned to Jeongguk after the air was clear.
Jeongguk sighed, knowing that Jimin was right. He liked Yoongi as a friend and really wanted to go back to the way they were before.
He was pulled out of this thoughts as he felt his phone buzz in his pocket.
TT
Hey doll are u fine?
You didnt say anything else
yesterday
Jeongguk smiled at his phone, immediately going to type a response.
I'm so sorry for not answering:(
I was busy
He obviously lied, not wanting to tell a person, that kind of still was a stranger, all his emotional baggage.
I could also keep you plenty
busy doll
He almost choked at the response, cheeks tinting a light pink, pulling his friend's attention on him.
"You okay, koo?" Namjoon laughted, petting Jeongguk's back so he would calm down.
"I'm f --- fine." He coughed heavily, blushing even more as once again their table was pulling all the attention from the other guests.
"Who are you texting that you blush and choke like that? Damn." Jimin reached in his backpack, pulling out a bottle of water for Jeongguk to drink, so that his coughing would eventually stop.
Jeongguk wordlessly took the water, chugging down more than half the bottle in one go.
"Just, you know, someone. Not important right now, our food is coming." Gguk was beyond relieved, for the first time in a while, when he saw Yoongi, approaching with what looked like their orders.
"Here's your orders, please enjoy." Yoongi placed the delicious looking cakes on their table, still smiling uncomfortably in Jeongguk's presences and Jeongguk himself returning that exact smile.
They were all diging in as soon as Yoongi left their table, enjoying their fresh homemade pastrys and beverages but Gguk was yet again interrupted by his phone vibrating.
His eyes widened as he say multiple notifications of missed calls and messages from his father.
He's in so much trouble.
This is not going to end well for him.
"Guys, i think i have to go." Jeongguk stuffed the rest of his honey cake in his mouth, gulping it down with the last sip of his banana milk tea, running out the café immediately after as he screamed a "bye!".
Tears pooled in his eyes as he ran down the street, trying to get home as soon as possible in hopes that his father would be less mad if he arrived fast, but he knew that that was just wish thinking and he would probably end up in his room crying with more painful bruises again.
And he was exactly right.
