Chapter 8: Where KK questions her memory or lack thereof

And then there was chaos.

Bakugo and Kirishima ran forward, trying to blast Kurogiri away. KK took out her scythe again, seeing that there was no escape. Axel threw two fireballs at him, aiming at the metal at his neck.

It seemed to phase him for a moment before mist arms reached out and separated them.

And then she fell.

Sputtering, she tried to swim up in the deep water, gasping for breath and at the sudden change in the surroundings. Her bearings were lost, flashes of memories were messing up her train of thought and it felt almost impossible to fight properly.

She dimly noticed that her scythe was no longer in her hands.

And she had no idea of where it had gone.

Of course, Kurogiri, of course.

A tongue grabbed her before she could drown for real, never having the chance to actually learn swimming before. She should have known it would come to bite her back.

She was thrust onto a half sunken ship as she gasped for breath, dripping wet. Thankfully the fabric was waterproof, so it wasn't as bad as it could be. Then again, what was worse than Kurogiri and Tomura showing up to kill All Might?

Izuku was sitting beside her a second later, being caught in the same situation. Tsuyu had saved both of their lives.

"I owe you," she mumbled, pushing herself against the deck. The sudden bath had made her mind slightly clear, and she could assess the situation.

"They have split us up. Divide and rule is possibly the policy they are following here. They said they will do what? Kill Mr. Paragon of Virtue?"

Izuku nodded at her.

"And some of us as well, apparently as bait. But, they sound too confident for it. They must have found an actual way to kill him, otherwise they wouldn't have come here. Provided that they knew about our timing and all, they must have stolen it from somewhere."

"The press incident," KK interjected, rubbing her arms. He nodded again and entered his full-blown mutter mode.

"These guys are full suited to aquatic combat, so they must know about USJ's different zones and therefore picked those suited best for them. However, there is something that sticks out a sore thumb in all this.....which is you......Asui-san."

Asui nodded and he continued.

"They put you, who has a Quirk suitable for this environment in here....which means that they must not know about our Quirks. And plan to overwhelm us with numbers."

KK nodded tiredly and said,

"If they had known about it, then they would have dumped both Tsu-chan and me into a fire zone. My Quirk doesn't exactly dance well with fire. Nor does hers. They are probably looking to beat us with numbers and experience. "

Izuku pointed out the villains.

"They aren't climbing on deck. It lends credence to my theory that they don't know our Quirks."

"However, they aren't underestimating us either," KK muttered, "They did throw my scythe off, probably an attempt to handicap me."

"Therefore the best outcome possible here is to exploit the fact that they don't know our Quirks," Izuku finished.

They interrogated each other about their Quirks.

Then the villain began rocking their ship, which made it appear that it might split into two. Something KK really didn't want.

"If we sink, let me tell you that I don't fucking know how to swim," she said, keeping her gaze trained on the villains.

"I can fish you out, ribbit," Tsuyu assured her.

She gave her a watery smile before stepping back from the edge of the boat.

"The moment the enemy things that they have won is the best chance," Izuku was saying, "All Might said that in an interview.

"Listen," KK said, seeing him prepare to jump off the edge, "I will put Tsu-chan on the ground. Then she can use her tongue to grab us. You can do that, right?"

Tsuyu gave her a nod.

"So please don't break your bones again," KK finished, putting both of her hands on Tsuyu's shoulders and appearing to push her into the ground. She was breathing heavily, however.

Tsuyu appeared on the shore a few moments later and reached out with her tongue and pulled them off the ship. KK sent a few knives for the villains which were reaching out for her. They rolled on the ground to minimize impact, panting.

KK immediately got up, summoning two knives, ignoring Izuku and Tsuyu's worried looks.

She was gasping, teleporting Tsuyu had taken a toll on her. The adrenaline rush was still present, but her almost non-existent will to fight had flared up again.

She worked to avoid conflict. Not charge right into it.

She exposed hero's secrets for fun, for a lack of things to do.

A selfish job to fill the hollow she felt.

She most definitely wasn't a combatant, especially against actual villains.

A few knife tricks.

What else did she have? Her Quirk? Which had tired her out immediately?

She looked around for Eraserhead. Sure enough, he had drawn most of the villains to the central plaza and was bringing them down as fast as possible. However there was only so much he could do before giving way to fatigue. Axel and the rest were no where to be seen.

Tomura and Kurogiri were standing in the middle, the Nomu beside them.

Which sparked off an unpleasant feeling.

It spelt trouble.

"We need to help him," she said, surprising herself, "I can slice up a few of those troublemakers, not fatally of course. Here's to the hope that someone has gone to inform the staff. If they haven't.......Izuku can you do me a favour?"

"Uh?"

"Run as fast as you can while avoiding conflict. Get Iida if he is there at the entrance to inform the teachers."

"But—"

"Listen, you cannot use your Quirk without breaking your bones. And sorry to repeat Sensei's words, but you become useless after saving a single person. Now unless you want to end up as an actual liability, you better run."

Her words stung him. He knew that it was true, but it didn't make him feel any less miserable with his own inability. Her Quirk was so powerful, while his one just destroyed his own body. She was right, he had to do something about it.

"Izuku, I am literally begging you. I would have gone myself but I am about to faint from overusing my Quirk. You will learn control, but that doesn't come suddenly, 'kay?"

KK did realise that outright saying hurtful words would only make his wounds hurt more. She wasn't exactly an idiot, she could see his unbelievably low self-esteem.

However, she was no one to comfort a person.

That was Axel's job, with all the hugs and cheerful words.

Izuku nodded, looking slightly teary and she prayed to all the entities for him to nor actually start bawling. There was only so much stress she could take before hysteria kicked in.

He ran off, keeping out of the battles as much as possible.

However, luck exactly wasn't on his side either.

A few random thugs shot out and tried to catch him, causing Aizawa to split his attention and swear under his breath. Izuku fumbled and ran off, allowing Aizawa to head for Tomura.

Who grabbed his elbow which began disintegrating immediately.

KK felt as if the world had stopped.

"A new experiment?"

"To see whether a Quirkless person can really be made to manifest a Quirk and sustain it."

"....and therefore all the blood?"

"AND therefore all the blood. For victory, you must be prepared to do monstrous things, Tomura."

"I see."

Aizawa moved back however, though his movements are visibly slowed. His elbow was bleeding, the skin had been disintegrated off it.

"Eraserhead....you are so cool, huh? Jumping right into it.....but long drawn battles aren't your type, huh? You specialise in sneak attacks and the like. By the way, I am not the boss here."

With that the colossal Nomu began moving.

And KK froze to the spot. She should go and help Aizawa, who was going to be crushed. But, the fear, the fear of being injured, of dying, a waking fear she had lived with all her life prompted her to shrink back.

Not very heroic now, huh?

She pulled Tsuyu back with her, keeping her to teleport off if necessary. Avoiding conflict would be the best for this situation.

And Aizawa found stars dancing in his vision as his head collided with the hard concrete. A pain in his limbs made it evident that they were broken.

Fantastic.

"Meet the anti-symbol of Peace. The bio-engineered, Nomu."

Meanwhile Axel had found herself with Bakugo. They had pretty much taken down all the villains in their area.

"We should probably go and help the rest....and possibly kill the mist guy and hand guy while we are at it," she said, sporting an eerie smile.

Despite himself, Bakugo found himself respecting her.

"Yes, we would need to do that, because the mist man is how they are getting around. Once he is down, the fight would be a lot easier. So don't get in my way."

"You better don't get in mine," she said in a steely voice, blasting the villain that tried to ambush her.

"Fucking fine, I am going to get those fuckers. Don't fucking fall behind."

"Speak for yourself."

Iida had managed to get out. Izuku was panting. He saw Aizawa getting pummeled to the ground. A cold shiver ran down his spine.

What the pro heroes face in the field is evil unleashed.

"Pretty cool, erasing Quirks," Tomura was saying, "In the face of crazy strength, you might as well be Quirkless."

Aizawa couldn't reply between all the pain and all the effort it was taking to not whimper.

Kurogiri returned back to him.

"Tomura Shigaraki. Thirteen is down but one of the students escaped."

Tomura's mood changed almost immediately.

"Kurogiri, if you weren't so useful in the plan, then I would have turned you to dust where you stood. We don't stand a chance against dozens of pros. It's game over, man, it's game over."

Suddenly as if he had made a decision, he said, "We are leaving."

Tsuyu looked shocked.

"They came in all like that, but now he says that they are leaving?????"

KK tensed, not liking his tone at all.

"Well, well, I suppose I might as well introduce the two of you. This is Tomura Shigaraki, and this is.......******. After all, you will be spending a lot of time here. A long time actually. It's all for now. We will try again later."

Footsteps vanishing. An unspoken threat.

"Are you okay?"

Worry?

"However, let us kill a few kids to wound his pride," Tomura said, springing right over to where she and Tsuyu were standing.

He had grown faster and thinner, from what she could see.

Before she could pull themselves inside the shadows, his hand made contact.

Her eyes fluttered shut, expecting the worst.

However, she was still whole.

"Ooooh, Eraserhead, you are so so cool."

Tomura was positively gushing.

In this interval, she willed the shadow to overwhelm the two of them and teleport off, putting a safe distance between herself and the Nomu.

Aizawa's head met the concrete again and his consciousness began flickering heavily.

Tomura turned around, his eyes narrowing.

"I-it h-hurts."

Tears, worry, pain.

That was when the doors burst open.

"I am here."

All Might wasn't grinning.
