Chapter 6: Where Class Representatives Are Chosen
KK yawned as she walked into the school the next day. They had been awake the entire night, binge watching Death Note They had finished the first half, when she had fallen asleep on the couch, and Axel had nodded off sometime later. UA was nothing compared to the level of paranoia she was used to, especially considering that she had an actual roof over her head, instead of shifting warehouses to avoid being tracked. She was half dragging a sleepy Axel, who didn't look pleased to be dragged to school this early. They had teleported somewhere near to inside the school, because the press was creating too much of a blockade, all trying to get a scoop on All Might.
Iida was sitting there prim and perfect as usual, the only one to arrive early. The moment his eyes landed on them, he shot up.
"ASPIRING HEROES MUST NOT COME IN SUCH A SLOPPY FASHION. IT'S GREATLY UNBECOMING OF THEM!!!"
This just caused him to have to dodge a fiery fist from Axel.
"Shut the fuck up. I don't appreciate being woken this early, and besides Eraserhead crawls about with a literal sleeping bag. Why don't you try lecturing him instead?"
KK snorted and went to her seat, interested to see how this would play out.
"I AM SURE THAT'S SOME LOGICAL RUSE!!!! AND BESIDES, WE ARE STILL STUDENTS!!!! WE MUST BE SINCERE AND DILIGENT AND TAKE PROPER CARE OF OUR APPEARANCE!!!!"
"Knock it off, Tenya-kun, I don't give a damn about appearances, and you cannot make me do that."
"WELL!!! APPEARANCES MAKE PRO HEROES INTERESTED IN ACCEPTING YOU AS A SIDEKICK!!!! WHICH IS BENEFICIAL FOR A HERO CAREER!!!!"
"WELL, MAYBE IF THEY ARE JUST INTERESTED IN LOOKS, THEN I MIGHT AS WELL RETHINK MY CAREER OPTIONS!!!"
"BEING WELL DRESSED SHOWS YOUR SINCERITY AND RESPECT FOR THE SCHOOL!!!!"
"Well, yeah. Guess what? I don't fucking care. And now you have ruined my mood. Better run."
Saying this, two fireballs flashed in both of her hands.
Iida looked visibly affronted.
"QUIRK USE WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION IS A SERIOUS BREAKING OF THE RULES!!!!!"
"WELL, WHATCHA GONNA DO???? SNITCH ON ME???? HUH??! GO AHEAD, THEN."
"YOU MUST HAVE A PROPER SHOW OF RESPECT FOR THE INSTITUTION YOU ARE ATTENDING!!!!"
"ANSWER THE DAMNED QUESTION."
KK knocked Iida down before he could get burnt by the fireballs thrown at him.
"Rule number one," she began with a tired voice to rival Aizawa's, "Don't test Axel's temper. Especially in the mornings."
"Rule number two," she said, dusting her hands off and going back to sitting, "When she forms a fireball. Run. No second thoughts on that."
Iida stood up, looking impossibly pissed off.
He was going to say something, which was pretty much cut off by KK's
"Goooooddddd Morningggggg Izuku."
Said person blinked from where he stood, his eyes roving over Iida who looked like someone had offended mortally offended him, Axel, who looked like she would go on a killing rampage, and KK, who sported a rather "Just another day at UA" look. There were scorch marks on Iida's desk, the details of which he wasn't keen to ask.
"Good morning.....KK-san.....and Iida-kun and Axel-sa—chan."
"Good morning," Axel said, ignoring Iida's sputterings. Her forehead was throbbing in irritation.
KK gave him a wave and a smile, before pretty much faceplanting on the desk and going off to sleep with a, "Wake me up when class starts."
Aizawa gave them constructive criticism for the last day's Hero Studies. Izuku flushed slightly, while Bakugo just retained his perpetually moody look. Todoroki looked down, as he heard the comment of, "If you had used the flames, then logically speaking, you could have stood a better chance against them, considering their power works the best with the darkness."
His face was burning. Especially his scar.
"So, now we have to do something," Aizawa began, to which all the heads of the class began inspecting him warily, waiting for an insane activity pronouncement.
"You all will be electing a class representative and a vice representative."
The class visibly relaxed.
"IT'S A NORMAL HOMEROOM ACTIVITY!!!!"
Their cheering was cut short by Aizawa yawning again and saying, "Just do it before homeroom gets over. I don't care how."
And he crawled inside his yellow sleeping bag, and promptly fell asleep.
Iida pointedly ignored Axel's burning glare.
Immediately the class erupted in "I WANNA BE THE CLASS REPRESENTATIVE!!!"
Which was topped over by Iida.
"EVERYONE, STOP SHOUTING!!! THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A CLASS REPRESENTATIVE IS A GREAT ONE AND IT MUST BE GIVEN TO SOMEONE WORTHY!!!! I SUGGEST VOTING THE CLASS REPRESENTATIVE!!!! WHOEVER IS IN FAVOUR OF IT, PRAY RAISE YOUR HANDS!!!!"
His hand was the only one that was raised.
Some of the class snorted.
"But, we don't know each other that well.......so then how—," someone, most probably Kaminari asked, to which Iida responded with
"EXACTLY!!!! THIS VOTING WILL SHOW WHO OF US CAN BE RELIED UPON IN A RANDOM DANGER!!!!"
Or something.
KK really wasn't listening that much. Class Representatives didn't concern her that much. She had been put into the Hero Course without any other option. Not that she exactly minded that, but after spending years of not attending school, she had forgotten how chaotic it could get. She sank into her seat, trying to make herself as unnoticeable as possible, and trying to drown out the yelling which was getting on her nerves. Todoroki was the only other student who was sitting, but even he was surprisingly paying attention to the proceedings.
Oh well. She might as well pull an Eraserhead and get some sleep.
"I have been branded as a villain by hero society. Besides, even without it, vigilantism is a crime, according to law. Then how—?"
"As I said before. Rationally speaking, Hack, you can be a hero."
She rubbed at her eyes, just as Iida came to her, asking for her vote. Provided that she didn't want any responsibility, and that she barely thought that any of the class would be that much of use, she voted for Momo, considering that she was the only one who had some semblance of logic.
She would have voted for Axel, but that would end up with the entire class dead in a day.
Same went for Bakugo.
And Izuku looked like too much of a nervous wreck to be elected as a class rep.
And Todoroki clearly didn't want an ounce of responsibility for this.
The votes were tallied.
She looked at the board in utter shock. Someone must be playing a really dirty joke here.
How else had she ended up with three votes????? Which was at the top???? Followed by Momo with two?
She would get the person who did this. She looked around the class, and got up, scowling all the way to the front. Iida looked visibly upset.
Aizawa somehow got up just then.
"So you have elected the class rep? Good. Now make the rest of the stuff fast."
He blatantly ignored the beseeching look thrown his way.
Bakugo was yelling. The hell did he expect? That people would vote for him? He wasn't getting a vote with that attitude.
Izuku was smiling. She wished she could return it. She desperately wished that her tongue wasn't getting all tied and her vision was beginning to blur.
She wasn't fit for leadership.
She most definitely didn't miss Todoroki give her a look, which made her sure of atleast one culprit. She was getting him after this.
Momo gave a long suffering sigh.
This spelt trouble.
A person with bluish grey hair stood at the UA entrance, clothed in black.
"What did I ever do to you to inflict such a torture on me, Shoto?" She groaned, as the person spoken to slurped his soba.
"Well, you definitely seem like the type people will listen to. So yeah."
"W h y."
"Why not?"
She groaned again. Axel was still trying to shove food in her mouth. Not only was she being spoon fed, now she had an overwhelming responsibility. Her anxiety was just spiking, even though, in actual sense it wasn't that huge of a fuss.
However distorted thinking sure had its cons.
"I mean, KK-san definitely seemed fit for the job," Izuku was saying as he tried to explain why he had voted for her.
"She looks like she is about to murder her noodles, in all honesty," Ochaco commented.
"As long as she does eat it," Axel said, keeping a watch.
Iida was looking slightly better after his major heartbreak at not being elected the Class Representative.
"Who did you vote for, Iida-kun?" Izuku asked.
"Akaguro-san," he said, stiffly, "She has the quick thinking to save others on her watch and make the class listen to her."
"But you were all so hyped up for it.....," Ochaco said.
"Ambition and suitability are two different things!!!! I humbly believe that my decision was correct!!!"
KK gave him a look. He shivered slightly. She had all three culprits down. Now all was left was the planning.
"You look like you are being sent to your execution," Todoroki commented, causing her to snap out of the elaborate planning of glitter.
"I will excuse that considering that you actually spoke to me without being spoken to," she said, considering that she actually hadn't heard his words.
"Wow, okay, that's rude."
She rolled her eyes.
He went back to his beloved soba. He definitely didn't sneak a glance at Izuku Midoriya when suddenly reminded of her words that first night.
Meanwhile Iida was busy detailing the achievements of his brother.
"Tensei, I know him.....I did meet him through Koichi....he is a kind person," KK mumbled, which was meant only for Todoroki and Axel's ears.
"Is that a new ship I spot?" She asked excitedly. KK was about to respond when the bells rang out.
"SECURITY LEVEL THREE BREACH!!!! ALL STUDENTS EVACUATE IN AN ORDERLY FASHION!!!!!"
"Someone has infiltrated the building now. Fan-fucking-tastic," KK swore as she got up, summoning her scythe.
As expected, students began rushing, however black tendrils shot out and bound them to their places. KK was panting slightly as she banged the scythe on the floor thrice to get everyone's attention.
"RUSHING AROUND AND PANICKING IS NOT THE WAY TO BEHAVE DURING SUCH A SITUATION!!! THE INTRUDER WOULD USE THIS PANIC TO THEIR ADVANTAGE!!!! ALSO, THIS IS A MACHINE AUTOMATED COMMAND, NOTHING COHESIVE TO SUGGEST THAT THERE IS ANY ACTUAL DANGER OF THAT LIMIT!!! FOR ALL WE KNOW, SOME STRAY CAT HAS COME INSIDE BY MISTAKE. WHATEVER. THIS ISN'T A RATIONAL WAY FOR EVACUATION. EVERYONE FORM A FOUR LINES ACCORDING TO DEPARTMENT. WAIT FOR A WHILE FOR THE DOORS TO OPEN. STEP OUT OF SAID LINE AND GOD HELP ME, SOMEONE IS GETTING SLICED UP."
The lights had dimmed as she began speaking, flickering eerily. Sweat dripped down her face from using her Quirk so continuously, provided that her body wasn't even meant for a Quirk. Her eyes were glowing, and it appeared as if the Grim Reaper was giving the dead evacuation orders.
Flummoxed, they did as told as the lights went back to natural.
Axel noticed her stumbling as the threads dissipated.
"I will check it out, Momo, please oversee the situation otherwise. Considering that the higher ups have zero common sense."
She made her scythe disappear as well, before sprinting to one of the windows from where the gates were visible. What she did see was one of the doors absolutely disintegrated and the press milling around, while Aizawa and Mic were keeping them at bay. The disintegrated fragments made something steer in her memory, a flash of silver and blood, a cloud of pain.
Shaking her head, she returned to the cafeteria, where the students were beginning to fidget anxiously.
"IT'S JUST THE PRESS!!! NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. NO SUPER SECRET VILLAIN TRYING TO LAUNCH AN ASSAULT!!!"
The students breathed a sigh of relief as they went back to their seats.
"Sis, I think you should visit the Med Bay. You look exhausted."
KK gave Axel a what she hoped was a comforting smile.
"It's only a few hours. I'll manage it."
She might have said that, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that her statement of "No super secret villain to worry about," was false.
Izuku visibly sagged into the seats.
"For a wild moment I had thought that Hack had decided to break into UA. Pretty stupid, hah. They wouldn't have any business here, anyways."
KK burst out laughing. The situation felt weirdly hilarious for some reason, even as it drew looks and a few "What is this psycho doing here?".
Axel patted her back with a "Breath, dearie," before kicking her in the shins.
"Pain takes away stress," she shrugged.
Not for the first time, Todoroki wondered expressly about the feeling of eventual doom which seemed to linger heavily in the air.
