~ Chapter Eight ~
Fun fact; this chapter was the first one I wrote :')
The reason Haven's name is Haven Alexander is because I though it fit into the story :') since;
Haven means Safe Haven
Alexander means defender of mankind.
Thanks for reading this far!
You're amazing❤️❤️
Until next time.

This chapter is dedicated to EvolErutan, Love669, Alexis_Winters and Catspaw12 for simply being awesome and making it to the end of this story. You're all amazing :)❤️❤️

The hooded figure stands in the corner of the darkened green room, for once, unseen and unheard, hidden in the shadows. His sunken, hollow eyes bore deeply into the small, sleeping body of the young girl - the girl who's existence was a mistake, who's life should've been eradicated sixteen years ago.
He holds a hatred so deep for this child. A child who has no idea what she's doing, going against nature, and attempting to prevent the inevitable. A child who had disrupted his job for years, tipping natures balance an unnaturally dangerous amount.
She took it too far - saving almost every unfortunate soul that has been offered to him tipped natures balance just a step too far and somehow, she has to pay - it's the only way her wrongs can be righted.
He takes a silent step forward, slowly, silently emerging from the shadows as he watches her. She looks so innocent at rest, her peaceful features are not clouded with any type of stress or worry which he'd see on her face almost every moment of everyday whilst she was awake. Her shoulder-length chocolate brown hair, is scattered messily around her thin face, making her appear carefree in slumber. Her thick eyelashes tickle her cheeks as her eyes flutter in her sleep - eyes the colour of the clearest ocean that always held so much worry and concern - way too much for a sixteen year old to handle on her own.
She was quite beautiful. He'd go as far as comparing her to an angel - a guardian angel, since that's what she is to her peers - unbeknown to them, she was saving them everyday. Saving dying souls.
And that's why she has to pay.
She couldn't leave nature alone.
She wouldn't allow it to take its course.
She shouldn't have interfered.
This world plays one game - survival of the fittest. Humans, and animals alike, battle each other every waking moment of the day, simply to survive. It's incredible really. A human would easily turn on another if their life was at risk, and they'd do so whole-heartedly, with barely any regrets after.
It's shocking that to a human, another's life is less important than their own - but I guess that's just human instinct. You will always make sure you're okay before anyone else - it's what makes the human race selfish.
Yet here she is.
Haven Alexander.
Saving those who could turn on her.
Risking her life, for another's on a daily basis.
She is remarkable - too kind-hearted for her own good. She risks everything, and expects nothing. Something that's very rare in a human.
He takes another step forward, now standing directly over her. Gently lifting one of his boney hands, he reaches out a carefully removes a single strand of hair that was stuck to her peaceful sleeping features.
A soft frown of disgust appears on her face at his cautious touch, and she quickly attempts to move away, but she doesn't wake. Smirking slightly, he returns his hand to his side, letting the hand hang limply.
The hatred is mutual - even in a state of unconsciousness.
He watches her, absorbing her sleeping beauty for the final time. He listens to the steady rhythmic beating of her heart, and the wheezed breaths of air flowing through her lungs.
He feels guilty. He shouldn't be here. He doesn't want to go through with it, but he knows he has to in order to carry on.
But he couldn't just show up. He was a man of his word, playing fair until the very end. He even gave her hints, warnings of what was to come - a new action to him. This girl was testing his limits, pushing them further than even he thought possible. She was changing him, making him try new plans of attack.
And it scared him.
It scared him that she was weakening him.
It scared him that she was stronger than him.
It scared him that someone so young held so much power over him.
It scared him that she could stop him so easily, putting herself in danger, yet still living to tell the tale.
It scared him that he was being beaten in his own game.
He had to stop her. Now.
The warnings.
He sent her two, hoping she'd figure it out herself - he wasn't going to go after humans. At least not while she was around - moving, living, breathing.
The fox - he was playing with her, taunting her, up until her final moments. It mirrored Haven's situation almost perfectly.
The raven - the most obvious bad omen, the symbol of death.
Both were fair warnings.
For he is death, and death plays fair.
But when you cheat Death, Death cheats you.
