Chapter 7: Jealousy
"E-Excuse me?!" Lake said, confused. Was he really trying to ask her out? What does he see in her? Maybe if she can scare him he'll go away. "Trust me, I am not who you think I am.".
"No, you are beautiful and your soul is as precious as the sun." He said as Lake felt something odd in her chest. She actually never felt or heard anyone complimenting her. Then she felt like someone was watching them, but when she looked around, no one was there. Odd. Then she scratched the back of her head while thinking. "I don't know... Poppy looks like she has interest with you... you should ask her!".
"Don't think about her, mate. She's... well... she likes that Branch guy." He said as Lake felt a bit of disappointment. Ugh, these confusing ships! Lake thought for it a little while, was she gonna say 'yes' or 'no'?
"O-okay. I'll go out with you. But this doesn't mean I trust you." She said while pointing at the ecstatic Creek. He grabbed her wrist and dragged her somewhere. Lake had a look that showed betrayal, or hoping for sympathy. Branch quickly hid behind the tree and leaned on it, not even believing what she just said. "She isn't really going out with him... is she?".
He asked to a little creature who just walked away. Branch felt something fishy was about to be going on, so instead, he went off to follow them. He saw them sitting on a tree. Creek looking his usual self, but Lake? She wasn't looking herself at all. She felt miserable. Branch heard them talking about something... but what?
"Hi Branch!" Poppy suddenly popped up beside him as he got startled and covered her mouth and hid her behind the bush. Lake was sure she heard something, she looked around and saw nothing again. Then she saw Creek leaning against her face, so she backed away with a disgusted look. "What... are you doing?".
"Oh! Um... stretching, mate!" He said and rubbed his nape. Lake rolled her eyes and leaned on her arm.
"Why are we here, again?" Poppy asked as Branch face-palmed. "Lake has been asked out by Creek. By Creek! Something doesn't feel right here...".
"Or is it because... you're jealous?" She said with a smirk as Branch paused, looking at her with a mad face. Then he sighed and looked at her. "Poppy, if anyone's jealous, it isn't me. I have yet no interest in Lake, but I'll make sure that I don't".
"I heard about you guys being best friends since you were kids, what was that all about?" Poppy asked which made Branch pause again. He sighed and looked down at the ground. "It's... actually true. I used to be best friends with her. I've been lying to her that I don't remember because... I was actually making sure she really was the Lake I know. Now, can you stop asking those questions?!".
"Fine. I will. But only in one condition. You have to tell her you do know her" she said and heard Branch complaining. "What?! I'm not going to tell her over just some annoying things you just ask-!".
"La-la-la-la-la! I can't hear you! La-la-la-!" She kept saying which made Branch growl and groan. "Fine. But only because you're super annoying.".
"Thank you." She said with a little bow as they exited the area. Branch, prepare yourself for something. As he arrived back in his bunker, he set up traps and continued to sit on his chair and look at some invitations and scrapbooks Poppy gave him. Whenever he's confused, or... overwhelmed, he would look at them. Or... remember Lake's beautiful green eyes. Hold up-... what did I just say? I'm the narrator, not Branch's point of view! Ok, back to the story...
Suddenly, he heard a loud knock on the fake door he made, already assuming it was Poppy. He groaned and opened the spy slot from the mat. "Poppy! I already said-".
"Hey Branch..." It was Lake. What's she doing here? Is what Branch kept saying in his head. "Oh... Lake? What are you doing here?".
"I was having a 'date' with Creek, and I just didn't like it. So I bailed!" She said as Branch slow clapped. Lake clapped for herself and smirked. "Yay! Congratulations me.".
"Then why are you here telling me this?" Branch asked in a sarcastic tone, making Lake rolled her eyes. "Because I want you to know. I saw you there behind that bush. You think I didn't notice you and Poppy almost screaming?".
She giggled, knowing Branch isn't really sneaky as he thought he was. Branch rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. "Ok, ok, you caught me watching. Besides... I have something to tell you.".
She hummed in response, then Branch opened the mat and pulled her in. They accidentally fell on the floor. They shook their heads, realizing Lake was on top of him, with her face close to his. She quickly backed away as they both cleared their throat blushed. "Now, where were we?".
