Chapter 8
Tyler's POV
The buzzing of my phone on the bedside table wakes me up. Keeping my head on the pillow and reaching for it, I grab the damn thing and see Nicole's name on the screen. I press 'ignore', and throw the phone across the room. Fuck her.
I sit up on the bed feeling groggy. I need to work off some steam, so I decide to skip the shower and head straight for the gym, I'll wash up there afterwards.
I slip my sweatpants on, toss a t-shirt over my head, retrieve the phone from the floor, and I'm in my car, blaring some David Guetta.
The feeling I get from the workout is exhilarating. That punching bag sure took a beating, and my knuckles feel sore, but I welcome the feeling. After the shower I stick my headphones back into my ears and try to find a tune to fit my mood, my search is interrupted when my phone lights up with Nicole's name. I stare at it, my thumb about to swipe across the screen and take the call, but I resist the urge, and ignore her again. I don't know when I'll be ready to actually have a civil conversation with her, but it sure as hell isn't now. I still have too much adrenaline rushing through me from the workout, and I don't trust myself to keep it cool when I hear her fucking voice.
The phone buzzes again, and I swear I'm about to bash it against the fucking concrete, but when I glance at it, I see Tiffany's name. I answer.
"Hey, what's up?" I ask, as I'm getting back into my car.
"Hey, Ty, whatcha doin?"
"Just left the gym. What are you up to?"
"Alex and I want to go out to a movie tonight, wanna come?"
"And be the third wheel? No, thanks," I say.
"There'll be other people too," she says, trying to convince me.
"Like who?"
"A couple of guys from the restaurant, you know Daniel and Calvin, and some of Alex's friends maybe, like Carrie and Jonah, I don't know exactly. Oh, also the new hostess we hired last month, what's her name, Shelly? I know you think she's hot, so this could be a good chance for you to spend some time with her outside of work-"
"I'll come," I say, interrupting her pleading voice. I know I heard her right. Carrie might be there. That's all the convincing I need. Damn, I can't believe I may get a chance to speak to this girl again. I can't ignore the stupid smile that's growing on my face.
"Great! Wanna grab a pint at the Tavern before?"
"Sure," I say, wondering if Carrie would be there too, but I stop myself from asking.
"Ok. I'll see you there at like, seven?"
"Yeah, I'll see you then," I confirm, and end the call. As I start the car, goddamn Ed Sheeran is on again. What the fuck?!
