Chapter 7: Regret

I sat in my cell, sitting on the cold damp stones. The atmosphere was humid and occasionally a rat would scurry by. Great. My first day and I'm already a criminal.

I buried my head in between my legs, crying softly. After I had gotten my emotions back, I had planned on going back to the Fairy Kingdom and seeing mother. I had gotten them back and all I feel now is desolation and resent. I could feel my eyelids drooping, as I dozed off to a hopeful goodnights sleep.

"Psst," I heard. I ignored the voice, too tired to wakeup

"Psst! Hey wake up!" The voice provoked again. I groaned softly in protest.

"Wake up!" It whisper yelled.

I slowly opened one eye; my line of vision blurry. I rubbed my eyes to clear it. When I looked to search for the source of sound, what I saw shocked me.

It was him

"Daddy?" I said, willing my voice not to crack.

"Hey Maeve-Flower," My dad said lightly chuckling to himself.

Maeve-Flower, that was his nickname for me.

All the memories came flooding back

*Flashback*

"Higher daddy, higher!" I screamed in delight. My chubby four-year-old hands barely grasping him.

"You sure Pumpkin puss?" he said smiling.

"Yes daddy!" I said, excited for what was about to happen.

"Here... we...Go!" He said grabbing me tightly and flying to the highest could.

I laughed happily, my hair whipping across my face.

I looked below to the big blue ocean and saw a figure in the distance.

"Daddy? What is that?" I questioned.

My dad looked to where I was pointing and nodded his head.

"Why don't we take a closer look?" He said.

We flew closer and noticed that it was a ship infested with humans.

"Daddy, won't the humans hurt us?" I said, holding onto him tightly.

"Not all of them," He said, flying lower.

I listened to him, uncertain if what he was saying was true.

We were about 20 feet away from the ship, and I noticed the flag design.

"D-daddy, is t-that a p-pirate ship?" I said stuttering with fear.

My dad squinted, hoping to get a better view.

"It might be," he said, a hint of uncertainty lingering in his voice.

"Daddy I don't like it, I want to go home," I cry out to him.

"Let me tell you a story honey," he said to me, hoping it would calm me down.

I looked at him curiosity and fear twinkling in my eyes.

He sat there in silence waiting for me to say something.

"What's the story daddy?" I said, the silence getting the best of me.

He cleared his throat ready to begin his story.

"Once upon a time-" he began but was soon cut short.

"Daddy is this a sad story? You know I don't like those kinds," I pouted.

My dad rubbed his head.

"Maeve, sweetie, just let me continue. And no, it's not a sad story."

I nodded, satisfied with his answer.

"Once upon a time, there were a group of people, brave people." He said, his voice quiet.

"Is this a true story daddy?" I questioned, my four-year-old mind not giving him a break.

"Yes, it is honey, this happened where the land dwellers live, before we even knew a below world existed," he said, slightly fascinated by his words.

"Anyways, these brave people wanted to discover a new world, a place to be free and advance their species," He continued.

"They sailed on this magnificent ship, called "The Mayflower." he said.

"The Maeve-Flower?!" I said, excited that something had been named after me.

"No baby girl, the Mayflower" He said, making sure to spell out each letter.

"Oh, okay daddy," I said, disappointment clouding over my usual happy tone.

"So, these people, risked everything for the unknown. They didn't know what was waiting for them on the other side," he said, his voice growing louder.

"That's amazing daddy," I said, my fear of the ship shrinking.

He glanced back at the ship.

"You can't always assume, if you do, you'll never know what could have happened"

What do you think would have happened if the people above the Mayflower assumed?" He questioned.

"They would have never discovered their "new land" they would have just assumed there was nothing out there and just give up," I said slowly in recognition.

"I'm sorry daddy, I'm sorry that I assumed." I said shamefully.

"It's all right my little Maeve-Flower," He said with a wink.

I smiled happily.

"Now why don't we check out that ship?" He said with a light smile.

"Okay daddy!" I said happily.

We flew closer to ship, until a small human noticed us. He began shouting orders to the other crewmates and they scurried across the ship, hastily and worried.

"What's wrong daddy?" I said, fear lacing my words once again.

"Oh, I'm sure it's nothing," He said, but his expression said otherwise.

My dad flew me upward and mouthed a small spell.

Suddenly all the clouds gathered, creating a barrier that nobody could see through.

He set me down on the clouds, and I stood there shocked that I could rest on a cloud without falling through it.

My dad flew towards the ship, his hands in the air showing that he means so harm.

I sat on my cloud, curled in a ball and whimpering in fear.

Suddenly, the death defying, ear piercing sound of a cannon echoed across the sea.

"DADDY!!" I cried out.

I looked over to the ship, relieved to see that my dad had only been caught in a net.

The hot tears streaming down my face started to slow down.

I flew away from my little cloud hide out, dreading to tell my mother what had happend.

Perhaps the Committee can do something about it, I thought

Once I got to the kingdom, I flew in frantically, sobbing so hard my words were beyond comprehension

"Maeve? Maeve! Oh what's wrong honey?" My mother said worried, pushing herself through the crowd of people who had slowly gathered around me.

"And where is your father?" she said, her eyes moving around frantically.

"H-he was t-taken by a sh-sh-ship," I said sniffling.

"What?" my mother whispered, the blood slowly draining from her face.

The Committee had arrived at this point, worry creasing their foreheads.

"We'll go and look for Nesterin,"  Xandra said, one of the highest  ranked committee members.

Just the mention of my fathers name sent me bawling in tears.

"Stuff like this could emotionally scar them for life," The other half of the committee murmured.

"We need to take them to The Elder,"  Aextra said, one of the other committee members said.

"Agreed," the others said contemporaneously.

"No! I am not going anywhere until I know where my husband is," my mother demanded.

"I'm sorry," where the last words I heard before my mother and I were teleported out of there.

                                    ***

Soon we arrived at the Elders temple, hazy and confused. "Now, come along dearies," The Elder said.

We followed the Elder deeper into the eerie temple. Then we arrived at her potion room. "I just need to find some Newt eyeballs now..." she said quietly, thinking we were out of earshot.

"Wait what? Are you trying to cast a spell on us?!" my mother said, clearly shocked.

The Elder grunted in response, and flicked her wrist, sending my mother and I flying into the nearest chair, and straps confining us.

She started to chant, a misty substance coming out from her cauldron. My mother and I began to trash around, trying to escape.

"Soon you'll forget this ever happened, you'll think he died a long time ago, your grief will soon be gone, and no destructions shall happen," the Elder said.

We instantly stopped thrashing and repeated what the Elder just said, "Soon I will forget this ever happened, I will think he died a long time ago, my grief will soon be gone and no destruction shall happen."

We were stuck in a haze when the Elder suddenly snapped her fingers.

"Where am I?" my mother questioned.

"Yeah, where are we?" I quipped.

"I was just showing your mother a new spell, but it appears I had miscalculated the variables. Run along now dear," The Elder said smiling.

"Huh, alright then, Maeve come along now sweetie,"  My mother said, reaching for my hand.

We soon got back to the Kingdom and our day went on like any other..."

*Flashback Ends*

"Daddy, I missed you," I cried out, rushing to the bars trying to hug him.

"Me too Maeve, me too," he said, tears forming in his eyes as he fumbled with the keys.

"Now, we have a dungeon to escape," he said.

Dewdrop: Hello

Interviewer: Hey Dewdrop, were here to answer a few questions, hope you were paying attention

Dewdrop: OoOh I was, how could they leave us on such a cliffhanger?!

Interviewer: I agree, now first question, do you think Maeve should have told everyone first? Or just have told her mother?

Dewdrop: Well, to be honest, I would have done the same thing Maeve did. I mean I wouldn't be able to think if that was my father.

Interviewer: Alright, next question, If you were the dad, would you have flown closer to the ship?

Dewdrop: Nope. Not one single bit. When I read that part, my instincts said to run away. I don't care about the people on the "Mayflower," I mean if it weren't for them, the world wouldn't be so polluted.
