Chapter 2: The Castles Awakening
The palace was so quiet, all you could hear was the subtle sound of old, ancient, pages being turned. A loud sigh came from the center of the room. "Oh darling, I could use an adventure, can't you," a young lady said with a thick English accent. "Yes, I really could use an adventure my sweet, but wherever shall we find one?" A fine young man remarked.
The young queen rested her chin in her hands. Silence filled the air as the seconds passed timelessly. "By George I've got it!" the king exclaimed. "Right... here!" The king said pointing to a page in his book. The maiden traced her fingers over the page, slightly trembling. "A fairies orb," she whispered.
"Yes! And I have heard stories that it will bring great luck throughout future generations!" The king said quietly, almost as if he feared someone else would take it for themselves. "Let us leave at once," the queen said, with a strict tone. "Guards, please arrange a carriage for us!" The queen said, sounding like a young child.
It was nearly midnight, when the king and queen ventured off. The night was the perfect cloak to conceal their greedy desire.
The royal couple continued their journey to the fairy kingdom for five days. They were about an hour into their trek on the sixth day, when they heard a sudden 'snap.' The queen was trembling slightly as she gripped her husbands arm. "Darling, what was that?" the queen questioned, fear lacing her words.
"Oh, probably just some deer, it will pass by soon," the king said, not quite believing what he had just said. Suddenly the carriage shook, a loud 'thump' heard from the front of the carriage. "Coachmen! What is the meaning of this skylarking?" the king demanded from the front of the carriage. Their only response was the occasional 'hoo' of a night owl.
The king growled lowly in frustration. He swung the carriage door open, muttering some profanities under his breath. As he walked over to the carriage, his breath hitched. When we walked back to the the opening of his transference. The queen inspected his face, noticing all the blood drained from it.
"What is it darling?" the queen asked nervously. The king was too shocked to even say a word. The queen got out of the carriage, he heart beating rapidly. When she approached the front, she let out a spine chilling scream.
Blood
Everywhere
The coachmen had been attacked by some sort of devious creature. The queen slowly walked towards the severed bodies, her hand shaking as she reached forward. Two amber eyes glared back at her.
The queen screamed loudly, running to her husband, words coming out of her mouth a mile a minute. "Go! Run!" she managed to get out of her jumbled words. The both grasped each others hands and began to sprint towards the big golden gates of the fairy kingdom. Not even looking behind them, the king and queen continued with their plan.
The king and queen quietly threw a rope that wrapped onto the shining, majestic golden gates. The king went first, securely tying the rope around his waist, and handing the other half to the queen. He climbed up slowly, careful not to make any sound.
Once he was safely on the other side of the gate, he passed the rope to his wife, knowing that the fairies put a magic charm on the gate, causing an alarm to sound when someone without magic in their blood tried to unlock it.
The queen nimbly climbed across the gate swiftly, and quietly. Once she was over, she threw the rope to the other side. The young king stepped forward, looking around every couple of seconds, making sure no one could see them.
They opened the book and read the directions exactly. The queen walked into the open temple, the breeze lightly flowing across her gentle face. The young king and queen walked side by side, using the wind to cover up their tracks.
Finally, they reached a wall, full of ancient readings that once were read by past generations. The king's eyes grazed over the wall, as if he were looking for something. Then his eyes locked with an image of a golden fairy, said to be the next heir of the fairy kingdoms forest, as well as it's guardian.
This heir would come every Hybrid Solar Eclipse. Unfortunately, this event is so rare there hasn't been one for almost 140 years. The queen raised her palm and pushed hard against the magnificent crown bestowed upon the Guardians head.
The then wove her fingers in an intricate pattern, and then focused all her body's heat and energy upon that hand. She took her hand off the wall, stumbling as she regained her balance. "Most impressive my dear," the king murmured.
Suddenly, they heard a creaking sound, and they faced the wall, gaping at the sight that was in front of them. The orb's seemed to circulate, or orbit around a bright ball of energy, almost as if it was keeping the orb alive.
The closer the orb was to the light, the brighter it seemed to glow, and the further away the orb was from the light the dimmer it seemed to get. The royal couple took their time choosing which orb to take. Suddenly, they heard a loud growl behind them.
They both froze with fear, their eyes widening. Then, they came face to face with two Amber colored eyes. The king and queen stood there, paralyzed with fear. The Amber eyes were two inches away from their face. And as soon as it had started, it was gone. The queen was shaking and then whispered something to the king. His face paled at her words.
Suddenly, the king reached for the closest orb and grabbed it. He then reached for his wife's hand and took it. They began to rush out of the kingdom, planning to call for a coach to come and fetch them. Now all they had to do was hope they Amber Eyed creature would forget about their dark past...
