GREAT EXPECTATIONS

Cebisa had a lot on her shoulders. One of the many children of Zuri, she was expected to take on the elaborate task of a Wakandan shaman, as her father's children were the only ones allowed to care for the heart shaped herb when he passed on. The first of her father's children to accept her future role without any other plans in mind, she found herself being taught the ways of a shaman, as well as all of Wakanda's traditions and beliefs, from the current to the far past, all of its history and its people, she had to understand and comprehend them all. She carried this responsibility with pride, finding herself blessed to be allowed to hold a piece of the future of Wakanda.

While her days were filled pouring over texts and caring for her large family, she found her routine often being disrupted by calls from the royal lab in the outskirts of Wakanda, called by Princess Shuri. Every day was something new, either a new invention or idea she wanted someone to listen to, or a new internet trend that she saved onto her computer. Nearly every day the genius invited her over to her lab and every day, without fail, Cebisa couldn't fathom why; more focused on her own studies, she was nowhere near as smart or well-versed in science as Shuri needed to be able to comprehend all the work she did, but that never did stop her from trying incredibly hard; knowing how lonely and isolated Shuri felt as someone so young yet with a mind so advanced, Cebisa only wanted her to feel cared for.

As expectations grow and personal goals become grander, the two find themselves growing ever closer, their separate paths connected by the shared need to find someone who expected nothing from them except their whole selves, and as feelings began to blossom, the two discover that differences were never meant to divide, and, at the end of it all, every person was simply meant to live and love.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Oh heck yeck ya'll you don't even know this fic has been in the works since Black Panther came out tinkertaydust knows we were talking way back when and she was like "make a Shuri fic" and I was like "yeah!" then like let it sit for like four months but now here we are! I'm super excited for this, because this really delves into some more themes of culture and tradition in relation to innovation and change (not in conflict, just in relation) it's gonna be really wild and I'm really excited.

As mentioned, Cebisa is the daughter of Zuri, and while I can't link you to where I had read it as it was so long ago, I did read somewhere that only Zuri and his children were allowed to care for the heart shaped herb. If that's false, well, I'm still going with it.
