Chapter 30

"This is cozy." Kirstie giggles as she crawls into the sleeping bag with her boyfriend. She wraps an arm around his waist and lays her head on his shoulder after kissing him on the cheek.

"Did you have fun today?" He asks as he put his arm around her pulling her close.

"I had a blast. I can't believe I actually climbed a tree and then jumped out of it." She giggles.

"I'm proud of you." Tim chuckles as he plays with her ponytail.

They fall into a comfortable silence. Tim begins to drift off to sleep. Kirstie lay wide-eyed listening to the sounds of the woods around the lake.

Crickets chirping, frogs croaking, an occasional hoot of an owl, and the yelping of a few coyotes off in the distance.

To someone like Tim, the sounds were relaxing but too Kirstie, they were a bit frightening.

Strange, scary thoughts begins to enter her mind. She shivers and snuggles closer to her lover.

"You cold?" Tim mumbles as he pulls her closer.

"Not really." She whispers. "Just a bit scared."

"Scared? Of what?" Tim asks resting his head against hers.

"All these weird sounds in the woods. Just kinda unnerving." She says softly.

"Nothing is going to bother you, Sweetheart." Tim says. "I guarantee you, they are more scared of you than you are of them."

"Do you believe in Big Foot?" Kirstie asks.

Tim's eyes pop open at the strange question. A smile slowly creeping on his face.

"Big Foot? As in, Sasquatch?" Tim furrows his brows as he turns his head to look at her.

"Yea. Do you believe it really exists?" She asks looking at him with frightened eyes.

"I've never really given it much thought." Tim chuckles lightly. "I mean, they're discovering new animals all the time. But as many people that have claimed to have seen a Sasquatch, you'd think they'd have more solid evidence than blurry pictures and fake footprints."

She nods in agreement.

"Have you ever watched the movie 'The Blair Witch Project'?" Kirstie asks.

"No, I don't watch movies like that." Tim answers.

"There's a scene in the movie where these teenagers were in this tent and something starts beating on the outside of the tent." Kirstie says as she recalls the scene that gave her a week of nightmares.

"Kirst. What are you trying to do? Give us both nightmares?" Tim asks.

"Sorry." Kirstie says placing a kiss on his jaw.

"When I was a kid, I use to go to these haunted houses during Halloween. I loved them." Tim says. "One Halloween, me and some friends went to one called 'The Fear Factor'. It was fun at first. Then all these people dressed as zombies got after us and we all started running. It was really dark except these strobe lights flashing. We were running and we ran off onto this foam rubber. Our knees, just buckled under us and we fell on our faces. My friends crawled over to the other side but these zombies grabbed my legs and started pulling me back. I was petrified. I ended up having a severe anxiety attack and was carried to the hospital. Haven't been back to one since and I don't watch scary movies."

"That's terrible. How old were you?" Kirstie asks.

"I think I was around 10." Tim says. "I have nightmares pretty easily. I'm petrified of clowns and freaky dolls."

"Bless your heart." Kirstie raises up kissing Tim softly on the lips. "Okay, no more talking spooky stuff. So what are we going to do tomorrow?"

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe go four-wheeling, hiking, fishing. Just whatever y'all want to do." Tim says as he closes his eyes.

Kirstie lays her head down on his chest and begins to hum a lullaby. Tim smiles and kisses her on the head.

"That's very relaxing." He whispers.

"I love you, Tim." Kirstie says softly.

"I love you too, Angel." Tim says as they both drift off to sleep.

The next morning, Adam and Avi are the first to awaken. Wood is added to the fire and Avi starts putting water on for coffee.

"I'll go see if the others are awake." Adam says as he walks to the other tent.

Adam gives several hard slaps on the canvass door of the tent.

Tim gasps loudly, sitting straight up throwing a sleeping Kirstie from his chest onto the floor of the tent.

Adam unzipped the door and looked inside. "Sorry, didn't mean to startle you."

"What the hell, Adam?!" Tim growls. "You trying to give me a f*cking heart attack?"

He brushes his hair back as he tries to calm his breathing.

"I think I bruised something." Kirstie chuckle slightly, rubbing her hip.

"I'm sorry." Tim says giving her a sleepy smile and reaching for her hand. "I didn't know our alarm clock was going to be some lunatic beating on our tent."

"What are you doing sleeping on the floor of the tent?" Adam asks looking down at the small blond.

"I wasn't. I was cuddled to my boyfriend until you scared the crap out of him." Kirstie replies.

"Sorry about that." Adam chuckles. "We have coffee brewing and starting breakfast."

Tim gives him a thumbs up as he stretches and yawns.

Tim slips on a pair of cut-offs and a clean tee shirt.

"Ugh! These mosquitoes are eating me alive." Kirstie whines, clawing at her leg.

"Don't scratch them, they could get infected." Tim says as he slips on his sandals. "We have insect repellant, you know that right?"

"But it smells." She whines again.

"Two things." Tim smiles as he brushes back his hair. "Either put up with the smell or put up with the mosquitoes, chiggers and ticks. Your choice."
