Chapter 18
"How are you feeling?" Kirstie asks as she drove back to Tim's house.
"Numb." Tim says as he stares out the windshield. "And dying of thirst."
"So your ankle is not hurting too bad now?" She asks as she glances quickly down at the foot boot (pictured above) that the doctor had put on Tim's foot.
"Ain't nothing hurting. I feel kind of light headed. Almost like I've had more than a few beers." He says with a slight slur giving her a drunken type smile. "I don't know what he gave me but I sure like it."
Kirstie giggles as she looks in the rear view mirror to make sure Adam and Avi were still following them.
"We should have carried you home first." Tim mumbles as he licks his dry lips.
"I wanted to make sure you got settled in alright." She says.
"I guess you could drive my jeep home. God knows I won't be driving it any time soon. You might as well drive it before they come after it." He says as he rubs his tired eyes.
"You're not going to lose your jeep, Sweetie." Kirstie says as she takes him by the hand. "Not if I have anything to do with it."
"Kirssie." He slurs shaking his head. She smiles at the mispronunciation of her name. "I did't ask you out and to be my girlfriend because you're rich."
"I know that." She says, lightly squeezing his hand. "But if I can help while you're not able to work, I want too. Please?"
He looks at her, his eyes blinking a few times as if he was blinking back the tears.
"I can't ask." He says softly, shaking his head.
"You're not asking, I'm offering." Kirstie says, giving him a sweet smile.
She pulls into his drive way with Adam and Avi pulling in behind her.
Tim looks up to see Nate grilling in his back yard.
"Oh crap." Tim mumbles to himself as he reaches for his crutches.
"Wait on the guys. You're to drugged up to try to walk on your own." She tells him as she hops out of the jeep.
"Hey, Buddy. What happened to you?" Nate asks with concern.
"Don't even ask." Tim chuckles as Adam and Avi helps him out of the jeep.
"He ...Uh.. sprained his ankle really bad while we were at the creek." Kirstie tells him.
"Aw man, I hate to hear that. He was really excited about today too." Nate says. "I'm Nate, Tim's land lord."
"Kirstie. Tim's girlfriend." She smiles proudly. They shake hands.
"D*mn, Tim. That looks pretty bad." Nate says as he notices the black bruising around Tim's toes.
"You know me, if I'm gonna do something, I'm not just going to do a half-ass job at it." Tim smiles. "Doctor says I gotta be off work for a few weeks. I'm just praying they won't have to do surgery."
Nate gives him a comforting pat on the shoulder as if he were reading Tim's mind.
"Don't you worry about a thing. Just take care of yourself." Nate says with a smile.
"Well, you ready to try and climb these stairs?" Adam asks as he takes Tim's arm and puts it around his neck for support. "Avi, get his other arm."
"You need my help? I'm a little taller than Avi." Nate says.
"It might work better if you did help." Avi smiles.
Nate takes Tim's other arm and puts it around his neck.
"You let us do the work, alright?" Adam says.
"Yea, you don't need to put no weight on the foot just yet." Nate says.
Kirstie takes his crutches. She and Avi follows slowly behind them as they start up the stairs to Tim's apart.
Once they get to the top, Kirstie unlocks the door with Tim's keys.
Tim sits down on the couch, breathing heavily from having to hop up the steps. He reaches down taking hold of his leg and carefully raising it to set his foot on the coffee table.
"Sh*t." He moans, his eyes clenching tightly together as his foot and ankle throb with pain.
He leans back against the couch, trying to catch his breath.
Nate had left after helping with Tim, to tend to his grilling.
"Tim? Avi and I are going to run to the Pharmacy to get your prescription filled. We'll be back in a little bit." Adam says as he pats his friend on the leg.
"Thanks guys." Tim gives a tired smile.
"Would you like some water?" Kirstie asks after the guys had left.
"Yes, Thank-you." Tim nods.
She goes to the kitchen and gets a bottle of water from the refrigerator. She hands it to him then sits back down beside him.
"I feel so bad that you're hurt." She pouts as she lays her head over on his shoulder.
"I feel bad cause I'm hurt too." Tim chuckles as he rests his head over on her's.
"Would it be alright if I stayed with you?" Kirstie asks softly.
Tim raises his head and looks down at her.
"I mean, Adam has to go to work tomorrow." She continues as she looks up meeting his eyes. "You're not suppose to be putting any weight at all on your foot for the first few days. So you'll probably need help."
"Kirst, that's totally up to you. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't want you here." Tim smiles. "I just don't want you to feel obligated."
"I'm your girlfriend, of course I'm obligated." She giggles as she wraps her arm around his waist.
Tim moves his arm around her and pulls her closer to his side. His attention turns back to his injured foot, Kirstie instantly sees the worry come across his face.
She reaches and places her hand on his bearded jaw and turns his face to her's.
"Hey, Will you please stop worrying?" She says as she places a soft kiss on his lips.
"What if they end up having to do surgery? No telling when I'll be able to go back to work." Tim says quietly.
Kirstie reaches up, running a hand through Tim's hair. She leans in kissing him soft and whispers between kisses. "Everything will be okay."
