Chapter 17
Kirstie helps Tim into the passenger's seat. She walks around the jeep and gets into the driver's seat.
"Uh, do you even know how to drive a stick shift?" Tim asks with a worried expression. "Cause I really don't have the money to replace the transmission."
"Yes, I know how to drive a stick." She says, rolling her eyes. "My first car was a stick shift. My daddy taught me."
She smiles at him as she puts it in gear, does a 'U' turn in the field and heads for the road.
"I'm impressed." Tim smirks. "But take in easy on the bumps. My ankle is killing me."
"Sorry." She pouts at him. "I'm taking you to the hospital."
"I don't need to go to no hospital." Tim says, shaking his head. "Just take me home."
"Absolutely not." Kirstie argues. "You might have broken a bone in your ankle. You need to have x-rays done."
"Do you always get your way?" Tim grimaces as he tries to re-position his throbbing foot.
"Most of the time." She smiles at him.
Tim chuckles and shakes his head.
They soon arrive at the Emergency Room. Kirstie hops out of the jeep and runs in to get a wheel chair.
She wheels Tim inside and she gives the lady at the desk all the information. They were told to wait in the waiting room until they were called.
"I can't believe this is happening." Tim mumbles, rubbing his forehead as they wait.
Kirstie smiles sadly and takes him by the hand as she hears him groan softly from the pain.
"Maybe it's not hurt too bad." She whispers to him.
"There ain't no way I can work like this." Tim says quietly. "I need to call Rob. Give him time to get Chance to fill in for me."
"I'll call him for you when they call you back." She says.
Tim nods and hands her his phone.
"What are you doing?" Tim asks as he sees Kirstie take a picture of his foot which was swelled to the max and had already turned black and blue.
"Proof." She smiles.
"It's not like I miss work a lot, I can't afford too." Tim says.
"That's what has you worried, isn't it." Kirstie says as she brushes his hair back.
"I've got bills to pay, Kirst." Tim says.
"TIMOTHY FOUST." A nurse calls out.
"I'll be in there in a minute. I'll go call Rob real quick." Kirstie says as she kisses him on the cheek.
Tim nods as he rolls toward the nurse.
Kirstie goes outside and gives Rob a quick call and sends him the picture for proof of how bad Tim's foot looks.
She also calls Avi and tells him what had happened. He promises her they would be at the hospital soon.
She walks back in and the nurse directs her to the room that Tim was waiting in.
Tim was laying on the bed with an arm laying over his eyes. His hand was actually shaking from the pain he was in.
The nurses had laid a bag of ice on his foot.
"Hey." She says softly as she walks in. "Has the doctor been in yet?"
"No." He says through gritted teeth. "The nurse just put that heavy *ss bag on my foot that is making it hurt worse."
"That's suppose to take the swelling down." She smiles as she rubs him on the stomach.
"It hurts like hell." Tim groans.
"I called Rob. He said not to worry about a thing." Kirstie says as she takes Tim by the hand.
"Pfff, that's easy for him to say." Tim gives a light chuckle.
"Adam and Avi are on their way." She smiles.
"Adam won't let me live this down." Tim says as he shakes his head.
"Ya'll talking about me." Adam smiles as he and Avi walks in.
"Speak of the devil." Tim smiles.
"Good Lord!" Adam says as he sees Tim's foot and ankle. "That looks very painful."
"Trust me, it is." Tim says.
"Is it safe to ask what happen?" Avi asks as he sat down in one of the chairs.
Kirstie begins to explain what happened but was interrupted by a nurse with a wheel chair coming after Tim for x-rays.
The nurse helps Tim into the chair and wheels him out of the room.
"Anyway, so Tim's foot slips off the rock, twisting his ankle and we both fell into the stream." Kirstie tells them.
"It looks pretty bad." Avi says.
"Tim can handle a lot of pain but seeing him now, I can definitely tell he's in a LOT of pain." Adam says.
"He's really worried about missing work." Kirstie says sadly.
"That sounds like Tim." Adam nods. "He's always worried about his bills."
They sat in silence for a few minutes.
"Well?" Adam finally speaks up. "Did he kiss you?"
"Yes, he did." She giggles. "And it was fantastic. And, he ask me to be his girlfriend."
"Really?" Avi asks with a huge smile. "And your answer was?"
"My answer was a definite, Yes." Kirstie smiles.
"That's totally Rock and Roll." Avi laughs as he gives Kirstie a high-five.
"He was so nervous about asking me. He was stuttering and rambling. It was so cute." Kirstie smiles at the thought.
"Tim's a good guy." Adam smiles. "We've been friends for a long time. So I know for a fact that he will try to treat you like a queen. That's why he's so deep in debt now." He chuckles.
"What do you mean by that?" Kirstie asks with a puzzled look on her face.
"His last girlfriend, Jenika. He went into debt to try to please her." Adam says, shaking his head. "He tried to buy her everything she wanted. But when he ran out of money, she broke up with him."
"Well that b*tch." Avi says with a shock look on his face.
"Exactly." Adam agrees. "That's why he's so worried about his bills. But ya'll, please don't say anything."
"I won't" Kirstie says as she shakes her head. "But that just breaks my heart."
They stop talking as the door opens and the nurse wheels Tim back into the room.
"Well?" Adam asks.
"The doctor is looking over the x-rays." The nurse smiles. "He'll be in shortly to talk to ya'll"
"Thank you." Kirstie says as the nurse turns to leave.
Soon after the nurse leaves, the doctor walks in and sits down in a chair in front of Tim.
"Alright. Sprained ankles are classified into three groups. Group one is mild. The ligaments are just stretched. Group 2 is moderate. The ligaments are slightly torn. And Group 3 is severe. The ligaments are ripped apart. Tim, I sorry to tell you that your sprain is a severe one."
"Oh, that's just f*cking great." Tim mumbles.
