chapter four
We pulled into the airport's parking lot and parked near a Wendy's. Once we got out of Cry's car, Felix took his hand and started walking towards the fast food restaurant, saying that he's craving for fries. Cry shakes his head then throws his car keys at me. As they walked away from us, I opened the car trunk and took Melanie's luggage out. I took a luggage cart nearby and placed the luggage on them. Melanie giggles and hugs me all of a sudden, "I'm gonna miss all of you and your crazy antics." I chuckled, "Believe me, it won't be crazy without you." She hugs me even tighter. Sighing, she told me, "Y'know, you were always a big brother to me. Back then, when we first met, there were times when I couldn't get you out of my head. I was confused, and weirded out; who wouldn't be? But then I realized, this was the first time that I had someone like you. This was the first time I had someone to tell my secrets to, someone who just gets me. Someone I could call my brother." This puts a smile on my face.
It feels good to be something for someone who doesn't have that. To be something that fits the missing piece. "Well, as long as you want me around, I'll be your big brother and you'll be my littlae sister," I say while ruffling her hair.
Cry and his glutton of a boyfriend came out of Wendy's carrying a big paper bag which is probably full of food. Cry had an irritated look on his face meanwhile Felix was shoving fries down his mouth. He looked over at his boyfriend and smiled at him, showing his teeth along with the couple of fries that was stuck in it. This made Cry burst out laughing. I love the fact that no matter how irritated he could be, just one small action could bring it all down. That's love I guess.
Once the couple reached us, Felix took the paper bag and passed it to Melanie, a gesture for us to eat. Cry dissented, "I don't think this would be the greatest place to eat. Maybe we should be eating at the airport, that way there's no way that Melanie would be late for her flight." Melanie laughed, "Flight schmight. Who gives a fuck if I'm late for the bloody flight? I sure as hell don't! I'd rather eat here on the pavement with the three of you than be patiently waiting on a cold, stiff metal chair. I don't care if other people see us here." And so we ate on the sidewalk.
Sure, cars did pass by us, but Melanie didn't care, so I stop caring about the judging stares they would shoot us. All I cared about was that this is going to be the last fast food meal I'll be sharing with Mel for a long time. It would be weird to do this tradition without her.
After eating, we walked to the airport with me pushing the luggage cart. We saw on a flight monitor that Melanie just had enough time to go check-in, double check her things and settle down in the waiting area. We insisted to take her in but she told us that she could handle herself perfectly and that if she ever trips in her way in, she has a plan on what to do. She gave us all a hug, mine being the tightest of them all, then she walked into the building. We looked after her through the window. She turned around and gave us a final wave and walked away. We stared after her.
A couple of minutes later, a crowd started to appear. People ran to the arriving area. They were screaming and pointing, "5SOS!" So that's why a lot of girls were loitering around. Cry and Felix looked at me, trying to see what I was going to do. Without any words, I ran along with the other people. "Michael! Ashton!" I was screaming. I know Cry and Felix might get mad at me for ditching them but for Pete's sake! It's 5 Seconds of Summer! Surely they'd understand me. "Séan!" I hear someone shout. Probably Cry. Shit. I really am in trouble. Cry never calls me by my real name unless he's mad at me. Oh well, I'm already in trouble, might as well carry on.
Anyways, loads of people were compiling around the arriving area. People were pushing each other just to take a peep at the band. The band's bodyguards block the crowd so that the members could pass through. Some lucky people were able to take a glimpse at them. Unlucky me, I was too small to see anyone. As the four of them walked towards the car that was waiting for them, the crowd followed them. I wanted to get out of the line but people kept pushing me back inside the crowd. I tried to struggle against them. After a few minutes of struggling, I was able to escape them. I least I thought I did. More fangirls started running towards the others. I tried to avoid them but they ended up pushing me sideways. And then I was falling. How unlucky of me, I didn't get to see my favorite band and now I'm fucking falling. I'm Irish! I'm supposed to be lucky for fuck's sake!
Everything seemed to be going in slow motion, which was convenient for me. I put out my thin and slim arms in front of me to catch me when I fall. Even if I did that, it wasn't my arms that caught me. Instead, two muscular arms did.
I looked up. Now I was getting lucky. The face I saw put a smile on mine. I couldn't help it. Mark. The face I've been looking for. In the time that passed, he actually ended up growing some facial hair and damn, it suits him so well.
He helped me up. That's when I saw that the flannel he was wearing was now colored. It was... bright but dark at the same time. It's confusing me. He looked at me with a big smile on his face. Cry and Felix ran up to us and asked me if I was alright. Then they noticed Mark who was standing by my side and thanked him. Mark was still standing there with his big goofy grin. I cleared my throat and introduced them to each other. "Uhm, Cry, Felix, this is Mark," I gestured over to Mark, "Mark, these are Cry and Felix." Felix butted in, "This is Mark? Like Mark as in your soulmate?" I glared at him.
It's always up to Felix to fuck things up. I mentally facepalmed myself. He smiled at me teasingly. Christ, this is making me feel so embarrassed. Mark might not be my soulmate for fuck's sake!
I looked over to Mark and I could tell that he was struggling not to laugh at the expression on my face. He stared at me as he said, "Yeah, I am." Wait, what? He basically confirmed that I'm his soulmate! My eyes widened. He leaned down and whispered, "You know, these things called colors started appearing after we first met." Then he leaned back and winked. I swear to God, I am about to die.
Cry's phone started ringing so he walked a couple of paces from us and answered it. Meanwhile, Felix started interviewing Mark. Cry returned afterwards and told us that his parents asked him and Felix to join them for dinner so we had to leave. We offered to Mark to join us ad fortunately he accepted.
On our trip back, I sat in the back with Mark. We ended up catching up. I found out the reason why I wasn't able to see him. Apparently he went over to Boston to participate in PAX East and flew to Cincinnati to visit his family.
I don't think that I've ever smiled this much at all. Felix is probably thinking the same thing. I could see him peeking at me using the rearview mirror and smirking.
As we drove into the city, Cry asked Mark where we would drop him off. He looked at me and asked me if he could hang out with me at my apartment. Of course I nodded.
So they dropped us off at my apartment along with his luggage. Can't wait to see what would happen with this "hangout".
