BEXLEY AWOKE IN her bed the next morning, not expecting for Poe to already be there. But he was; standing in the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest, shaking his head as he tried not to grin. The blonde was up immediately, looking to her clock to find that she had only five minutes to get to breakfast.
"How could you let me oversleep?" Bexley asks Poe, sighing as she rushes to her drawers to grab an outfit. "You're supposed to help me, you know."
"It's not my fault you're lazy," he shrugs, looking quite smug as he takes a seat on her bed. "Besides, you were looking pretty peaceful in your sleep. I'd be a monster to ruin it."
Bexley couldn't help but smile as she rolled her eyes, stepping into the bathroom to change. Her mind filled with memories of the previous night; back to when Poe had taken her hand in his, and comforted her when she needed it the most. The blonde couldn't deny the warmth of Poe's hand, and the way hers fit perfectly in his. But she wouldn't focus on that right now, as she had other things to worry about.
Poe, on the other hand, didn't. And since he had woke up this morning, all he could think about was how beautiful she looked in the glow of the sunset. How he had taken her hand in his, and pulled her closer as they stared at the stars. Poe was sure he had been in paradise. He ran his fingers through his black curls, leaning against the bedroom door as Bexley exited the bathroom with a new outfit and her hair pulled up.
"I'm not ready for my classes," Bexley frowns, tightening her ponytail as she opens the door to leave. "Yesterday was a setback, and my worries are with me again."
"I'm here, so you shouldn't worry," Poe assures her, closing the bedroom door behind them. "Besides, you have Spencer in your classes to help you with anything else you'll need during class. And I'll be here after."
"Another week, and I'll be flying," the girl says, tilting her head to the side. "Are you teaching in the control room next week, before our final test?"
"Of course." He states, leading her down the long, brightly lit hallway. "I am the best pilot of the Resistance."
"You're awful confident," she notices, glancing up to narrow her eyes. "Maybe I could be the best pilot if I pass flight school. How would you feel about that?"
"Suprised, to say the least," he grins in a teasing matter. "You don't have what it takes to beat me; the best of the best."
"Is that a challenge?"
"I see it as more of a statement."
Poe couldn't hide the genuine smile on his face as she rolled her eyes. He could only imagine flying with her one day. It would be a paradise he wasn't ready for, yet would be exactly what he was waiting for his entire life.
---
Later into that day, as Bexley was getting dressed for her training time with Spencer, Heath, and Poe, three light knocks sounded from her bedroom door. She furrowed her eyebrows, a bit confused at who it was. Normally, Poe would yell at her from outside to make sure she was dressed, then he would barge in.
If Bexley actually thought about it, Poe was the one and only person that visited her since her arrival. Maybe she should spend more time with her friends, and get to make new ones. One day, he was bound to leave her behind for a better opportunity, or forget that he was supposed to support her through most of her future decisions. It wasn't in his orders, but Bexley would prefer if he were there to always help.
As the blonde girl opened the door, she didn't expect to see Dawn standing in front of her. Bexley furrowed her eyebrows for a moment, confused at her presence.
"You weren't at breakfast this morning," Bexley says. "Or at lunch. Is everything alright?"
"I've had Spencer bring me something," Dawn shrugs her questions off, her eyes burning into Bexley's. "Can I come in?"
Bexley steps aside, allowing Dawn to enter, and take a seat on her bed. The girl wondered if Dawn's room looked similar, or exactly alike. But that looked like the least of Dawn's problems at the moment, as she cleared her throat and began to speak.
"I've talked to General Organa again," she begins, patting a spot in front of her for Bexley to sit. "That's why I was gone today. She had urgent orders for me, so I was led straight into a meeting, and didn't get out until recently. The General gave me requirements to take care of, and you're one of them."
The blonde across from her hesitated, but didn't want to stop her just yet. Whatever it was, it must have been important; meetings with General Organa never normally lasted that long.
"She requested that I, as well as a few other recruits and pilots, go out to Takodana in two days to check out the explosion sights. I, of course, already expected this. But she wants me to stay on the planet, a place where she suspects will be the place of the next explosion, to watch over for a bit."
"She wants you to spy on the First Order?" Bexley's voice almost gets caught in her throat.
"Not exactly," Dawn bites her lip. "We're not guaranteed that they're doing anything. But for now, we can only assume that they're looking for something. And in the meantime, I'm going to be staying with Maz Kanata to make sure there isn't a reason for these bombings, or to get the information if there is."
"How long will you be staying?"
"Until the next explosion, or until General Organa decides to bring me back," her voice grows into a whisper. "And Bexley . . . she wants you to come with me."
Bexley was choked, her breath unsteady and stuck in her lungs. She couldn't breathe, nor did she want to. She hadn't learned much of flight school, let alone pass it. Bexley couldn't believe her ears, or believe the fact that, in such little notice, she would be thrown into something so quickly.
"Not to stay!" Dawn rushes, releasing a chuckle as she notices the girl's stance. "Only to secure the sights, and to look for anything out of the ordinary. You'd have to learn the basics of flight fairly quick, although you'll have a pilot. It's a precautionary measure."
"Why would General Organa choose me," Bexley jabs a thumb at her own chest, "over anyone else here? I haven't the slightest clue of what to do! I mean- I know my way around home, but I don't have any idea what I'd be looking for, nor what to do if I found it. Dawn, how could I do this?"
"Think about it, Bexley." Dawn says, running her fingers through her long brown hair. "You just said that you knew your way around home. You know your way around the space that we'll be securing. And from the looks of it, you've already finished a couple of books on what you'll need to know. Besides, if you find anything- anything- out of the ordinary, then you notify someone around you. It's common sense."
Bexley swallows her urge to groan, only placing her face in her hands. This mission would mean so much to her, but so little when she couldn't do everything the General was requesting of her. Leia would be let down when she failed them, and possibly may even keep her away from flight and assasin training. She needed Poe now; she needed to lean into his shoulder, and for him to give her the answers she needed.
Bexley wanted him to calm her nerves, and assure her that he would be there, tagging along to make sure she made the right choices.
"Who will be joining us?" She barely gets it out, her hands beginning to shake.
"Three other recruits, and another pilot . . . " Dawn trails off, frowning a bit. "None of which you know."
Poe wasn't going to be by her side. She would be forced to learn by herself, and would be plunged into a world she wasn't expecting so quickly.
"You won't be the only newcomer," the brunette comforted Bexley, giving her a weak smile. "And even if Heath or Spencer or Poe won't be there, we'll have each other for a short time. I promise, it'll only be a three day trial."
Trial.
That word made the mission seem simple; a test. Bexley wasn't taking a test, this was something she had no options in. This was her chance to show Leia what she could do, or fail trying. The blonde could remember the stories of her father once again; the ones where he would tell of how he had to be brave in a tough situation.
Bexley would be like her father.
She straightened her back, and took her hands away from her face. She was no longer shaking, nor worried and stressed about the outcome of the future mission.
"When do we leave?" She asked, sucking in a sharp breath. "I'll assume Poe will have to teach me a bit more about flight, but I'm hoping for the best."
Bexley Terris had come from a line of assasins that were deadly, and scared of nothing.
And like her father had once before, she would be just as deadly and fearless as all the others.
